Incredible work. To form panels over 2 axis while remaining durable and with a process that can be scaled for manufacturing is a major milestone. You guys are leading the way for viable solar charging, and I hope this will inspire other automakers to offer solar options in their EV's.
Sunpower is the best in everyway. Aptera is also world leading in efficiency.
If it's scalable, it might give options for housing roof design development too! 🤔

By creating such an efficient EV design, Aptera is making solar-assist power relevant -- and that's "free" energy! While battery packs are getting more expensive due to increasingly high demand for raw materials, Aptera's approach makes even more sense -- smaller battery packs required to yield good range and a more affordable EV. I'm in !

This is the only electric car I actually want. The others are options that I'm willing to consider in the absence of something less damaging; the Aptera speaks to my minimal-energy/maximum distance ideal, and can do it while providing some of its own energy, which none of the other current offerings can manage.

I think the most important quote in the video is that they have put one of the riskiest design challenges behind them. Assuming they have figured out how to make their chassis in sufficient quantity and make a wise decision on the wrap, there aren't too many more concerns left. I think it's time to buy more stock.

@@beachbeemer There is vinyl wrap and PPF wrap. If they choose vinyl, it is thin, not as durable, does not hold up well in the sun, and is a deal breaker for many people. If they choose Cosmetic PPF, which is a thicker polyurethane film, that material is thicker, more durable, and self-healing, with a 10-year liffespan. The wrap is a point of concern for a lot of people, but there are wiser materials to choose. I am sure Aptera will get it right.

You can back drive a solar cell and turn it into an LED. You can then visually inspect the panel. Note that the three panels are mounted on an Aptera with a headlight. I think this is a new gamma/delta.

I'm currently 6,944 on the order list, and I couldn't be more excited. I've been following Aptera since their initial start back in 2005 and was very disappointed with it's dissolution in 2011. As soon as I saw Aptera start back up again in 2019, I was once again intrigued. To see the technological hurdles and advances Aptera has made encouraged me not only to order one of the vehicles, but I am excited to be able to actively invest in their stock. I believe Aptera is the future of clean transportation and will hopefully spearhead a revolution in the industry!

The biggest contributor to global warming is transportation. ~57% of the energy used for transportation in the US is due to passenger vehicles and light trucks. Aptera may not be single-handedly saving the world, but they're blazing a trail for others to follow.

Joy of joys! Tesla has installed twelve charging stations in an unused corner of a mall parking lot less than a mile from my home! So I posit the idea that Aptera starts a subsidiary to find malls that have ten to twenty never used, contiguous parking spaces and build charging stations for all Aptera owners and, to be kind, owners of other electric vehicles.
I like the use of using the solar panels as lights at the beginning to make it look cooler. It'll always be a neat party trick much like all motors are generators.
@@bobhilder1469 well yeah, they only emit ultra violet. They probably did the effect by overlaying a full spectrum recording over a normal spectrum camera and merging that in.
We are with you through production and ramp up hell. Sharing updates like these often will help investor confidence and bring more awareness about Aptera's commitment to production.

As the cheapest EV on the market, with the option to reduce the total cost of ownership even more with integrated solar, I believe Aptera is in line with a flexible strategy to grow the business along with market conditions with their flexible manufacturing, as well as provide a product that fits well in a cost sensitive market.

This is a video long in the making. Ty for this.
Solar cells that are simultaneously flexible in 2 axes are a PITA. Within this domain are cells that must flex only ONCE, versus cells that must flex repeatedly or continuously. Aptera cells are a mix of both, with a major fixed curvature set during production, then impact and thermal "flexing" during use (which is common to all solar cells, including flat ones).
Aptera solar cells need to curve just once as part of the production process, and the Aptera radius of curvature, while significant, isn't extreme. Unfortunately, for all intents and purposes it is pretty much impossible to make a flexible solar cell with anything close to 20% efficiency. Only rigid solar cells presently reach this efficiency.
Aptera is all about efficiency! How can they reach their solar performance goal? The answer concerns reframing the question: Can a solar cell *precursor* be made, then flexed as needed, and THEN be processed to become a functional solar cell that is efficient, rigid and curved?
The Aptera video provides clues that this is indeed what is being done. Rather than list those clues, I'd first like to hear your thoughts on this!
I don’t really like electric cars for the most part, but I’d happily buy and drive this thing, especially at this price point. If the world does go all electric, this seems like it could be a good option for people
I'm hoping you actually do hit your solar charging goals, and that you're able to handle large scale manufacturing of not only the panels, but also the vehicles.

Great video! More videos like this every other week would be awesome. That would only be a handful of videos until Delta is revealed. One thing I noticed that seemed to be missing is the hatch solar panel. At 2:42 I did not see it in the layout nor on the rooftop shot.
Living in WNY, it would be great if while the vehicle was preheating in the dead of winter that a reverse current could be applied to the panels to melt the snow and glow at the same time. A slow pulse like it was alive would be cool.

So "in production", but the technician says the panels are close to the design goals. Which is it, you are producing the ones going on vehicles, or they are not yet ready?
I'm guessing they asked for 750W and got 700W so they said "That is close enough" so they're warming up the production line. They might either build ahead or (more likely) see if they can improve it slowly while the rest of the facility gets up and running.
Aptera is a Kaizen, or continuous improvement company. They will never say "good enough" or wait for model years to phase in improvements. This is not an either or situation on any of the Aptera engineering.
