I ordered a a 40kWh (400 mile) version with full solar, tent and AWD. As an engineer I appreciate the design and I also like their stance on the right to repair. They believe the owner deserves the right to get parts and make repairs themselves. This helps with a startup as they can’t immediately hav repair centers everywhere.

I've seen many original and unusual concepts since seeing the first Corvette prototype at a pre-release viewing at the 1952 GM Autorama as a kid (my dad was a manager at GM); that turned into a very successful brand. That event made me a car nut who always followed the cool new developments and innovative headliners that rarely ever saw the light of day as real products that lasted. The Aptera seemed like a potential exception a dozen years ago, and then disappeared. It's fantastic seeing it back!
With a few minor warts, it has beautiful lines that just might catch on! Additionally, the creators seem to have a firm grasp on making a dramatically novel design very practical! As a retired mechanical engineer who's always been into cars & bicycles, I hear what they say as down-to-earth logic in their approach. Their Aptera is a fine blend of beauty and sensible innovation that justifies & deserves success, finally! Props to their dedication and determination!

@@n.brucenelson5920 I love Elon's original Tesla as I loved Aptera's original hybrid. I think it was back in the mid 2000's.
back then it was simple and clean with an ultra-efficient diesel. HUGE mpg range, perfect for anywhere in the world, not just sunny climates. I was prepared to buy right then and there. It was gorgeous.
Now it's been over-tinkered with. Goofy solar panels all over it. I live in Vegas, I ain't leaving my car sit in the sun. It will take god knows how long to cool, plus it will burn the paint off. Goofy opening, ill fitting doors.
Watching the videos, it needs a ton of suspension work. It rides bad.
World-wide use is now limited to warm sunny climates.
it would have helped if they looked for a partner like Bombardier, Polaris, Textron, ect.
Now then, I do understand the solar panels. California has a quite severe lack of power with many areas suffering from rolling blackouts as it is now.
And they have (foolishly) decided to close Diablo Canyon power plant.
That's a disaster. Even with Diablo operating at full capacity, even in September, they are granting other power plants permission to operate without pollution standards as they exceed rated capacity to provide as much energy as possible. That's bad politics.
      Be honest with yourself.
What do you think is going to happen when millions of people get home from work and plug into a 240 volt, 50 amp circuit?
That's as much energy as a BIG arc welder that can melt 3/4" thick steel plate!
Trust me man, the grid is not ready. Maybe in 20 years if we start now and work fast.

@@TheBandit7613 I have ridden in the Luna alpha prototype, and know how it performs first hand. Do you know what alpha prototype means? Perhaps you don't know that Aptera has hired several partners - among the best in the business. For the suspension and doors, Roush Performance had 20 engineers who have totally re-engineered both the suspension and the doors. Take a look at the fit and finish of the last Tesla Cybertruck that was shown. Tesla started development of the Cybertruck about the same time Aptera restarted and began their design. Even with the vast difference in resources, a production Aptera may reach the market first.
As far as power production, I have professional experience working at both nuclear plants and on and off shore petroleum production facilities. I also responded to the fires in Kuwait and other petroleum related disasters around the world. I understand the situation first hand, having lived in California for over 20 years, and dealing with the consequences of the fires.
Over use of petroleum is a root cause of these fires, which have greatly increased in number and frequency just in the past 20 years. The peak fire season is also occurring earlier in the year. We are already in the middle of disaster on an immense scale and it is well past time to take effective action.
As far as the grid capacity to handle EVs, yes, co-ordinated planning needs to be done. However, with V2G tech, a relatively small number of EVs plugged into the grid not only charge, but can shave 30% from peak grid loads. There are also long term solar thermal storage plants under development that will make load leveling and additional power even less of an issue than it is now. Such vehicles will improve grid stability - not harm it.
EVs such as Aptera are a part of the solution, not a cause of the problems we are experiencing with inefficient power use.

1: that was definitely not the rear fender. If you pause it at the right frame, you can see the lens of the camera.
2: unless you're going on a road trip, you probably don't need more than 20-40 miles per day. That means you either never have to charge, or maybe if drive a little further / live in a darker area and drain 10 miles a day, once every few months.
      3. Solar costs $900 NOT $25,000! range goes from 400 miles at $25k to 1000 miles at $49k. This is probably what you're referring to.

In Europe, plenty of people buying small city cars like Fiat 500, London is full of them, there may be a good amount of interest in Aptera instead of electric 500 or Hone E as you would not need to bother with charging while the cost for the base Aptera model is similar. A large part of the population in the UK parking cars on street near their house, so charging electric cars there is a bit of an issue and reason behind the popularity of hybrids, as most did not have their own garage or large enough front yard to park a car in and charge, solar powered EVs could change that faster than big investment into infrastructure...
