      Came to leave a similar comment, it's at the bottom LED screen menu of the G-hub settings. I have my wheel set as PC mode permanently in the menu. You can also set the wheel to be read as G923 or Pro Wheel for compatibility reasons, it will require the wheel to restart when you do that. I did this once to play Dirt 2.0 and noticed the Force Feedback is not as great and relies more on Torque and Audio, I didn't enjoy the switch in modes. Audio force feedback is very unrealistic for G923 mode, in my opinion.

    People love to hate plastic. There's a perception that plastic = cheap, always and there's no exception. But there are so many grades and types of plastic. Plastic can be great and can feel really nice while maintaining a low weight. Like you said, the motor and plate are steel, and the steering wheel is aluminum (I assume) wrapped in a very fine grain leather. The shell is plastic, but it's a premium plastic; it's not cheap. In my personal opinion the plastic shell is way more attractive than the industrial, bare heatsink look of other brands. It looks like an actual product, while even Fanatec still looks like they are made in someone's garage. Made very well by a skilled craftsman, but in his garage with his lathe and powertools. The look was a significant reason I wanted it. I tried not to consider looks for my purchasing decision (I only play in VR, anyway), but I just couldn't want another one and I know it's because the Logitech looked good.

      I almost feel like the price point is a bit of a "flex" on Logitech part. If they went the 5nm route then they would sell more but then the elitists would be like "it's just another low end Logitech product"
      At this price range it's actually more expensive than Fanatec so nobody can mistake this wheel for being mid--range.
      Hopefully they can get that price down.

    The stitching where your thumbs sit does soften up nicely over time, mine was also quite rough to begin with but I love this feel of it now. I had Fanatec DD2 with porsche alcantara rim before this and hated it all, buggy software thin wheel rim way too hard feel to it. Would pick the logitech again and again, price was around £1250 with pedals, free shipping no import tax - price is very similar to anything else out there really imo.

    The noise seems to me that you are experiencing a ground loop or a defective unit. It should only be utilizing LFE and so if you're hearing higher frequencies then you're either experiencing audio sample rate conflicts or it's a ground loop and you would need to experiment with how you plug your devices into power in order to isolate the cause and eliminate the electrical noise introduced to the audio path.

    After using my G Pro for a few weeks now, I think the TrueForce is very much dependent on how the game implements it. In GT7 it seems like it can reach much lower range of vibrations, similar to the buttckicker in the TGT2. But in DR2 it's WAY too high pitched and loud. It would be great if more games had granular controls of Trueforce feedback. Whereas in WRC Generations I hardly noticed any Trueforce, even though it says it's supported.

    I have this wheel on the shortlist along with the GT DD 8nm. Based on what I know it doesn’t seem to be much pricier because the GT wheel seems to be low quality and quick to wear out. Also the pedals aren’t great so with CS v3 pedals and upgraded wheel from Fanatec you get into the same price range.

    Thanks for the review, RE Trueforce FB, or whatevers its called, because its fully software and algorithm based they can (and i assume they do this already), is that they would turn that section down when the motor needs to work on the traditional FFB things. I dont believe this would be a constant/linear application throughout the experience because as you quite rightly say it will not only detract from the physical experience, but also software wise it would take out the poling bit rates of what the rest of the road surfaces are doing.
    TLDR I don't think the weighting of this feature is actually linear or on/off style, it will ramp down or have lower priority when the wheel is needed for actual FFB. If that is not true, im sure they will correct it in future updates.

    Great review, I liked the way you compared the TrueForce effects to using transducers. The reason I considered this wheel was that other reviewers say the FFB is exceptional and the added TrueForce (something other wheel bases dont have) is really great paired together. But as you mentioned with TrueForce vibrations aren't realistically going through the wheel and should be coming through the chassis/tires (like mounted transducers), do you think I could get the same or better audio vibration experience using mounted transducers and SimHub?

  • @nutellabrah6718

    Thats the thing about UDP data from sims is that its kind of harsh and hard to layer from a single vibration source. It really is like audio engineering and trying to fit a bunch of frequencies all into one skinny strip of sandwiched chaos. What would be remarkable is if the Logitech Trueforce software could somehow take raw UDP data and compress it into a well balanced comprehensive “mix” that accentuates (but not overpowers) the force feedback -which is itself an algorithm tailored to have a wheel transmit the road feel in a convoluted way that makes up for not having a motion rig. So the two philosophies, one being that a wheel should do as much as it can to compensate for bot being reality and the other that it should be flat 1 : 1 wheel force like in early ACC and the buttkicker should do the rest exist. Or like how FFB mods have the grip loss effect heightened; All different but converging FFB philosophies. That could have been a cool concept if Logitec could pull something like that off with Trueforce. UDP and Simhub needs to get better too and give us more detailed and nuanced accessible control because the whole system is archaic and raw but is the heart of all the new technologies in sim racing hardware. We should be able to edit the textures and the frequencies themselves kind of like how DAWs let you do so much more with frequencies including effects and even mixing and mastering.

Quick question: is a wheel like this too powerful and/or heavy for a moveable cockpit like a Next Level Racing GT LITE. Hey Doc, I've been testing one of these since release and aside from the aesthetic (which is purely subjective) I've been blown away how good it is. I've used a fair few DD wheels over the years and in terms of pure performance the G Pro is right up there. It's shockingly good for the price. Yes there's a fair bit of plastic, and some of the design decisions are questionable but the money saved in styling obviously went into the internals. I'd rather have it that way round than pay for something that looks good but has mediocre performance. Logitech deserve some credit for what they have made here. Trueforce is a nice bonus but not supported by many games - i actually don't mind it, but definitely not for everyone and that's fine. It's just an added feature and you can turn it off.

    When you consider that it's 11nm and console compatible, what would you say a fair price is for this? I see a ton of complaints about the price, but when you price any thing else that's 10+nm, you're usually paying equal to, or more, and you don't get the console compatibility in most cases.

    Great informative video Karl.
    The main issue with this is the price. I cannot see how someone will want to pay £999.00 for this especially as the load cell pedals are another £399.00.
    My Fanatec setup which is 8MM DD pro wheel base, McLaren GT3 wheel and CSL pedals with load cell plus the shipping and VAT (customs import charge) was just under £1000.00. Yes they have stock issues hence why I ordered a non Fanatec bundle item, but it’s really a better deal and in my option far superior.
    I just feel if someone is going to want to pay £1000.00 just for a direct wheel and base then surely they will do their research and realise there are other options out there. And if the selling point is because it’s 11MM base then in all honestly that is too much. I run my 8NM DD pro around 6-7 and that is more than enough.

      I'm biting the bullet today since I could get everything for 999€ here. Where previously it sat at 1400€. That's with shipping and taxes inc. Without the pedals I think the price is dumb. Pricing - just wanted to say I think the price is actually very justified. Most reviews are saying the force feedback is very good. For comparison, Fanatec's DD1 is 1,200 Euro without a wheel (so add at least 300 to get a metal connector wheel) and their bundle of CSL DD with plastic connected WRC wheel (mine is wobbly and can't cope with my belt drive force) is 700 Euro. So this sits closer to the CSl in price but closer to the DD1 in quality.... All open to debate of course and everyone will have different needs and budgets. And you could go Moza....
    Hopefully, Logitech will offer other wheels soon, including cheaper ones, and the base on its own. Then we could use our existing wheels with an aftermarket adaptor.
    The Trueforce info is really useful to know. It seems it's not worth getting for that. I assume you can turn it off if you don't like it.

      Could not agree more Doc. I see so many people saying this is overpriced. It's absolutely not. Yes, it's more expensive compared to an basic entry level DD wheel - which seems to be everyone's point of reference for some reason - but that's not a fair comparison as the G Pro is good enough to compete with most mid level offerings and comes in cheaper to boot. Yes, there are cheaper DD wheels out there but they are not as good.

    I'm now on my second wheel and base from Logitech. The customer service is awful and they really don't seem to care that they are sending out faulty products. The wheel will not calibrate itself properly and always sits just to the left. Logitech agree that this is wrong. After an hour or so the wheel will continually twitch, in race and on loading screens. When first turning on, all settings will be automatically maxed out and you have to change profiles to get it to change. Not an issue, until you have to continually restart due to the constant twitching. I've got all the test videos from myself and emails from Logitech. If enough people want to see them then I will upload it as a video.

    Thank you for the review. Logitech is amazing when it comes to build quality and also with the software, so I am sure it is an amazing wheel. But yeah... it is not only ugly as heck... it just does not signal "Premium" and make me want to pay €1099. If it was €799 it would be in the mail...

    • @sermerlin1

      @@mikaelbackstrom I mean yeah... It's great that you can buy it separate but wheel should be 700e and pedals perhaps 300e...
      So that the whole bundle is 1000e.
      But like this they are selling them as separate entities and will confuse the heck out of a lot of shoppers when they see new logitech wheel box to just be hit with a shock "1000e for JUST a wheel?!"...

    Looking for a ps5 wheel and pedal set the thing I don't understand is why would you buy this for 2 grand AUD over the fanatec Podium F1 set for $2300 and have the option of getting different wheels overtime tonise for different games and styles of racing? FANATEC seems like a no brainer to me what do you guys think?

    • @KarlGosling

      You wouldn't, the Fanatec is better value and with many wheel options as you say mate.

    Low and behold, a proper unbiased non affiliated review. Thank you oh so much mate. Too many "fair and unbiased" reviews out there from folk who get the kit "given" to them by the makers. Liking your in depth tour of the G Pro so far Karl. You sorta look like a bloke who likes nothing better than a pissup and a fight but your intelligence and knowledge of the subject come through loud and clear for me.
    Just paused the video to comment on your opinion on Pro's looks. I quite like the shape. It reminds me of the Martians in the original 1953 War of the Worlds movie or even the main robot in Wall-E. Also I must say I don't like the Fanatec/Moza style bases. They look too much like something I just pulled out of a Ford Escort engine bay.
    For the price I would want some pretty bits bolted on and thank you Logitech for doing just that. As for trueforce I'll know what oyu mean when I buy this model but that won't be for a little under a year.

      It all makes sense really, in the end no influencer twat is going to mention anything bad if its going to hit them in the pocket especially something like this where it has a very large target audience of people who don't know any better. I mean just look at all the idiots fawning over trueforce, im literally saying to myself are we experiencing the same thing, nope.. people love the engine rpm n64 rumble pack gimmick. I pulled the trigger and made the purchase and regret it , should have valued karls unbiased opinion more and gone asetek forte or simicube2 wheelbase.

    • @jed2055
      @jed2055 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Loudlevin Well, I also pulled the trigger. Did it separately and missed out on a big AU$384 discount and a pair of racing gloves. Damn! Pedals yet to arrive but I've got the adapter so I'm using the G923 pedals at the moment.
      It's a step up from the G923 I have.
      As for game support for Trueforce; there aren't many just 2 on the PS5. More on the PC, 10 I think. Still, not enough to conquer the DD world. People are saying it's brilliant though . . . on the Pro but everyone knows it's $hit on the G923.
      Not a problem for me, I didn't buy it for that. I bought it for Logitechs known quality and service. When a McLaren wheel, shifter and handbrake come out in October you might think better of it Loudlevin. Don't shoot the goose yet mate.

    • @KarlGosling
      @KarlGosling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry maybe I wasn't clear, it's not a static sound, that is the engine rpm! I think it's the frequency they have chosen, the other effects don't sound like it.

  • @HondaExige1
    @HondaExige1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To be fair your comments on steering wheel feel are very much dependant on the car. A Lotus Elise/Exige for eg you feel everything to the point that running over aggressive saw tooth curbs is uncomfortable for your hands.
    A van, like my Volvo, I'm not surprised you feel nothing.

    Depends on the vehicle Karl, whether Kerbs and the like are felt through the wheel, maybe not so much in a van, but in a Kart or any single seater you feel the kerbs through the wheel and seat, as the saying goes "drive by the seat of your pants" - as always Karl. Good vid mate
