  • Watch Masti Bhara Hai Sama - Dattaram Reminisce - Documentary With English Subtitles - Raj Kapoor, Shankar - Jaikishan. Today, Dattaram Wadkar may not be a familiar name to many but this unassuming musician-cum-composer once played an important role in Hindi film music's Golden Era. His own music in films like Ab Dilli Door Nahi, Parvarish, Kala Aadmi, Santaan and Qaidi No. 911 was quite popular in the 60s. As Shankar- Jaikishan's long-time assistant and as an excellent dholak- player, Dattram participated in creation of many timeless melodies. On June 8, 2007 he breathed his last leaving behind a treasure of musical memories.
Writer-director Ashok Rane's 1- hour documentary 'Masti Bhara Hai Sama' serves as a good primer to introduce Dattram's impressive musical credentials to new generation. The only hitch being that it discusses more about his musicianship and his association with Shankar- Jaikishan, rather than focusing on his work as an independent composer. Whatever may be the technical and subject-material flaws of this documentary, it still manages to portray a neat sketch of a forgotten talent and that itself is its biggest achievement. The documentary's main strength lies in Dattram's crystal-clear recollections from the glorious past! Even in his dispassionate style, he manages to evoke nostalgia for that era when music-making was a labour of love! Subscribe to Rajshri - bit.ly/2NFOiwm

Thank you very very much for this anmol, unique presentation. In fact, even ONE hr. Presentation on SJ is very short,, one can keep on listening about SJ and their songs all the times. I would like to mention that King of Bollywood/Indian music Naushad Saheb said on the sudden demise of respected Jai Krishan ji that Jaikishan came to the industry very late but has gone much ahead of him and Payare Lal ji always says that all the songs of SJ are the best and ultimate.
Respected Datta Ram ji sincere thanks for sharing this video with us.🌹🌹🌹🌹🙏🙏 Finally music means SJ literary 🙏🌹🙏One of the best documentary- again thanks🌹🙏🌹Dattatam ji is very very humble person🌹🙏🌹

Very true, can never get those days. In fact viewing these movies and listening to these songs, projects those lovely days on our mental screen.
Memories of those sweet days gives not only a seet taste but also sour, for missing them now.
Collect the pocket money, skipping the classes, going to matinee shows, getting caught in the house, father shouting and as usaul mother trying to cover, always remains a sweet memory forever.
Now Parents and children relations are very different, seldome the place for Love & Affection can be found.
Anyway thank you for your kind and loving reply.

Raw talent of Dattaram flows out in full tide!. I cannot enough Rajshri for this memorable presentation on this Christmas eve. I feel it is a pity that Dattaram did not work with another genius , CR. You are legend.
He was very down to earth and the way he talks reflects his connectivity with his deep roots in humble background.
    His simplicity is unparallel .
He was very talented .his expertese in playing Dholak in songs played in this video for R.k films is excellent and make you diwana.
His composition of songs as a music director shows very deep influence of Shankar Jaikishan with whome he was associated from starting to end.
I salute him and I am sure the music lovers will never forget his everlasting and memorable songs.
His fingers created magic when he played dholak.

    Memory lane.
Had seen Ab Dilli Door Naheen in 1958.
The songs bring back fond memories.
He was quite mild talking about the songs of these days.
Once Anil Biswas was asked by Shan on SA RE GA MA PA, what he thought of the music then around 2005 or so just before his death.
    His response: “ये म्यूज़िक है क्या?”
    That says it all.
The 50s and 60s were the Golden Years of Film Music and I’m fortunate to have been part of that era.
Thanks for the excellent clip of Dattaram.
For Film Songs-lovers, listening to Geetmala ki Chhaon Mein would be very enjoyable especially because of Amin Sayani’s commentaries and interviews of legends.

A fine documentary on Dattaram Wadkarji (1927-2007) whose "Asoon bhari hai" is perhaps the best sad song ever.

No doubt, the music composer like Sh.Dattaram were personally of extra ordinary divine qualities, what it is very sad they were always exploited by their contemporaries . They will also set evergreen/everlasting songs than the musicians of that time.

Great program, he remembers finer detail of each song. Spoke good about today's music as well, rather than simply discounting it as nothing.
