I am 74 years old Indian woman. I have always been a BIG fan of Rafi sahib from very young age. I still listen to his songs and just immerse myself in appreciating the intricacies of his voice and diction. I actually go into a trans when I listen to certain songs of his. I agree with the general consensus that there never was a singer like him and never will be in the future. What makes me very sad is that after my days, my children will never know such a great artist in their life time since they have grown up in a different era. I cherish every song he has sung with such deep emotion whether sad, romantic, or fun.

I was just 5 years when the legend Mohd. Rafi expired. At that age I did not understand why there is so much chaos everywhere and when his funeral passed by from the streets of Bombay, I remember It looked like there is someone too beloved has gone and can’t be back anymore. Everywhere weeping faces. I too cried looking at them and I remember my elder brother had took me and my siblings walking along with the janazah from Bandra to Juhu. May Allah grant this beautiful soul, maghfirah and highest rank in Jannah. 😔

I was not a fan of Mohd. Rafi sahab, but once I was hearing his song " aaj mausum bara baimaan hai" on screen hero was Dharmendra Ji. It seemed to me that Dharmendra Ji is singing. Believe me or not I heard it more than 10 time's that day. Later I started hearing Rafi sahab. I believe he is the best playback singer ever. He is a class of his own. Rafi Saab came to Nottingham, a city in England & Rafi Saab did a show, there were only few hundred people in the Hall & he started with a song, Suhani Sham Dhal”. Pin drop silence, as he was leaving I stoped him & started to talk, he was very shy, spoke softly & said in Punjabi, Punjabi wich gal Kareen. Best day of my life. Always will remember. RIP, Sir. Rafi Saahab was a gem of a human being and that reflected in his voice too. Being a female I followed and sang his songs only from the age of 8-9. Was never interested in any of the female singers’ songs. Even now at the age of 56 I enjoy singing his songs on digital platform.

I had a chance to meet this greatest singer (an even greater a human being) when I was in college. He was the neighbour of my close friend She told me that since I was his die-hard fan, she could take me along to meet him WHENEVER I wished to. And I told her :" Mil loonga kabhi...Rafi sahab kahan jane walen hain...yahin toh hain!" However, my immaturity at that age (I was 19) did not let me imagine that he would be gone in a flash. I am 55 today and I can't stop regretting the fact that I LET HIM GO without even meeting him ONCE. He's left behind a vacuum which can NEVER be filled. He inspired me to sing and I try in vain to emulate his singing, but every attempt to do so makes me emerge a better singer. I am simply INDEBTED to him.

Believe me or not I heard it more than 10 time's that day. Later I started hearing Rafi sahab. I believe he is the best playback singer ever. He is a class of his own. Rafi Saab came to Nottingham, a city in England & Rafi Saab did a show, there were only few hundred people in the Hall & he started with a song, Suhani Sham Dhal”. Pin drop silence, as he was leaving I stoped him & started to talk, he was very shy, spoke softly & said in Punjabi, Punjabi wich gal Kareen. Best day of my life. Always will remember. RIP, Sir. Best singer ever.
You're so lucky you met him and even exchanged a few words with him. I didn't even seen him live on TV I'm 40 years old and he died a long before I even became aware of his existence. I feel a divine pulse through me when I sing his songs, for myself. I worship him as my Guru. Rafi Saab was an divine personality himself, I wish if I could have some of his divinity.

Brilliant. The genius of Rafi was never in question, but Javed Akhtar's true admiration and devotion really comes out in this piece. The 47 minutes of this video took me through the whole gamut of my youth via Rafi's voice-by being able to relate to each and every song that was part of this (thank you Akhtar saab).
IMO, the golden voice and age of music left sometime back, but maybe a few of the newcomers can sustain us. Until then...
It's a big ask for new comers , Rafi ji has set the bar too high and I for one has not seen anyone even near it.

Rafi Saahab was a gem of a human being and that reflected in his voice too. Being a female I followed and sang his songs only from the age of 8-9. Was never interested in any of the female singers’ songs. Even now at the age of 56 I enjoy singing his songs on digital platform.

I had a chance to meet this greatest singer (an even greater a human being) when I was in college. He was the neighbour of my close friend She told me that since I was his die-hard fan, she could take me along to meet him WHENEVER I wished to. And I told her :" Mil loonga kabhi...Rafi sahab kahan jane walen hain...yahin toh hain!" However, my immaturity at that age (I was 19) did not let me imagine that he would be gone in a flash. I am 55 today and I can't stop regretting the fact that I LET HIM GO without even meeting him ONCE. He's left behind a vacuum which can NEVER be filled. He inspired me to sing and I try in vain to emulate his singing, but every attempt to do so makes me emerge a better singer. I am simply INDEBTED to him.
