Now that’s a good looking car, well done Polestar👏
The Crosstour was so far ahead of its time...
Seriously. Its only problem was that it was beat with an ugly stick.
My neighbor had one brand new back in the day. I think about that all the time these days with cars like the Toyota Crown and this one
I had read about the 4, even watched other videos. I knew all about the lack of rear window... but somehow, I feel like this thing still flew under my radar. After watching this, it's definitely going to be a strong contender for my next car, especially when they start slashing prices and add LIDAR.
Also, what an amazing backdrop. I feel like this was the most zen car video I've ever seen.
Polestar 3 will be made in the US mid 2024. Polestar 4 will be made in South Korea in 2025. Software is from Google. Design is Swedish.
Well I am surprised to type this out, but: the style has really grown on me. I hated this the first few times I saw it in pictures because of the lack of rear windshield. But seeing the back seats of the vehicle again, I note that the seating looks like it would feel like sitting in a theatre box. That sense, to me, gives me a good feeling of luxury. Bonus: if you’re sitting inside the car, you can’t see how it looks from the outside and you can ignore its somewhat chunky proportions.
Aside from the rear visibility weirdness, it looks rather fetching.
I agree the lack of a rear window is odd. I could never get used to that because what if rocks hit the rear camera? Then you’d be screwed big time
@@naveenthemachine a rock hits the rear facing camera? Seems like quite a scenario you've come up with to illustrate a potential deficit.
@@ALMX5DP its not like it can’t happen
Just like rocks can hit windshields and from what I’ve heard from others, the front facing camera can get destroyed by a rock hitting the lens.
@@naveenthemachine possible is different than plausible. Rocks hitting the front of a vehicle makes a lot of sense. Rocks hitting something on the top/rear seems like it would be quite a bit less common and not something I'd particularly worry about. I'd be more worried about damaging it in a carwash like scratching the lens up before I would consider a projectile hitting it coming from the rear.
@@naveenthemachine as someone who has drove a box truck for years, you forget rear mirrors are even a thing on your personal car
A lot of folks saying it’s overpriced, but I don’t know - if it drives well, seems like it could be the modern take on the Jaguar I-PACE, and that thing is phenomenal!
We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced our 970 Panamera Turbo (both of which we bought used btw), a car that most ICE fans would probably agree is a pretty good daily driver in its own right. And I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the Panamera one bit, neither does the wife. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), the use of space is excellent (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, naturally perfect weight distribution, being able to blow by anyone in traffic anytime, never being in the wrong gear, way more efficient, never being late because I had to stop for gas, no maintenance, quicker than most v8 family cars and more efficient than i-4 family cars, etc etc. And even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. Yes, it can be annoying on road trips - but it's not the end of the world unless you road trip all the time. It's the better car 364 days of the year, and the worse car 1 day of the year.
Having said all of that, like I said I'm an enthusiast, and we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an R56 Mini Cooper JCW, both of which I frequently use for road rallys and autocross), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. The whole point of those cars is a visceral, loud, lightweight, connected experience with a manual transmission. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great and smoke my c7 around any racetrack, but I have no interest at all, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself ever going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever going EV for sports cars.
My point is simple: EVs are better at some things, and gas cars are better at some things. "Taking a side" doesn't make sense, even for enthusiasts. Just acknowledge what the other is better at. EVs dont work for everyone (you need a place to charge and can't road trip all the time etc etc), but if it works in your lifestyle - try it before you knock it is all I'm saying. You might be surprised.
And like I said - just because a car is EV doesn't make it good. There are good EVs and bad ones, just like gas cars. For example, I' not a huge Tesla fan. But, the well-executed EVs are, in my opinion, the best daily drivers, if they fit into your lifestyle.
...and this is coming from someone that's 37 years old and currently on his 8th manual transmission sports car (Vette, Mini JCW, 350Z, etc etc). And to be clear - these are my favorite cars, not the I-PACE. But, I have a wife and a kid, and we need something that isn't manual and has a back seat. And in that category, the Jag is by far and away the best we've had.
Nice and elaborate comment man! Thank you so much 😊
God if they refreshed the I-Pace with more range and faster charging I'd get it in a heartbeat!
It's gorgeous. Love the look. If it's anything like the PS2, it'll be fun to drive. Great looking car. I look over my shoulder when backing out of parking spots but the rear view camera gives you a better view of what's behind you since you're not seeing between back headrests and pillars. It's one unobstructed view. I would think it would take a minute to get used to it like one pedal driving. My only concern would be if the camera gets fogged, would I have to get out and wipe it constantly? Car manufacturers have been using rear view cameras for a while so I'd think Polestar has learned from their mistakes before selling this. They don't want drivers complaining about driving their cars. I am going to reserve one now in white. It's definitely going to turn heads.
Just went to the showroom and the look and feel around this vehicle left me a better impression than other luxury EVs on the market. Of course I could not test it as test drives are open in August. Our main concern was tge size of the car boot but it easily fits 3 huge luggage (we did the test). The space at the back of the vehicle is very generous. No rear window not a problem. Only point is about the electrochrome glass roof top - never had this before and needs to see how it adapts to sunlight. That being said, the car looks very elegant inside with the nordic touch. Gonna order it next week ;)
I get that people want a rear window, but all the "what if someone vandalizes your camera? Or a rock hits it? Or it malfunctions?" is just a bit silly to me. You ever driven an SUV with a full cargo area? It's not debilitating.
That color is gorgeous!
Among the most attractive SEDAN designs ever.
That's a beautiful interior, horizontal (landscape) center display, driver display, column shifter, simple-clean-elegant dashboard 👍 👍 👍
The door armrest seems unique.
wide and comfy?
u usually dont like gold colors but this color is got my attention.. like it
Good thing cameras never malfunction.
Or do they…?🤫
Rear cameras have been in GM and Toyota cars for a few years and they seem to be fine. A camera is pretty simple so the MTBF can be pretty long if engineered well. Volvos have a mixed reputation compared to Toyota and even GM though...
well a rear window in a coupe is always bad, and cameras rarely break down
@@faeinthebay Whats this car got to do with Volvo?
@@ALFOONUS Polestar was a division of Volvo, and they still have the same parent company. They also share almost all of their tech, similar to Hyundai/Kia/Genesis.
Damn. This is a beautiful car.
Thank You folks for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste
🙏🏻 😊 ✌ ☮ ❤ 🕊
Looking really sporty and classy
Unique and interesting design. Jeez those wheels are absolutely tremendous looking on that vehicle. The lack of buttons is concerning for ergonomics. Like the split front lighting and LOVE the lower headlights. We need more of this design in all raised vehicles. Thank goodness it’s becoming a trend. Can’t stand constantly being blinded by Ram pickup trucks.
Overall it looks small, but surprisingly roomy in the interior. Hope that this vehicle can be reliable, as I do like what Volvo/Polestar bring to the table even if its not what I’m looking for personally.
This car is really interesting to me, size-wise it's comparable to the Model S & BMW i5 with competitive pricing, just a bit taller and shorter.
Does this come with NACS charging port?
Roof is Southern Roaster , Florida baking oven
The electrochromic roof option should fix that! And it'll be a cool party trick.
It’s not that bad. I have the all glass roof on my Polestar 2 in Colorado which gets more sun than Florida, and it hasn’t been an issue.
@@OptimumSlinky I had one in Alfa Romeo Delaware . Had to thick heavy tint the glass and still was hot . Cant imagine in FL , TX , AZ ,NV or most south hot humid .
I've a polestar 2 with glass roof and live in clearwater FL. been hitting upper 90s this past week. there's some sort of material in the glass that cuts the heat really well. my car feels cooler than my wife's volvo xc90.
What is up with the driver display panel? Why is it so small? I feel like for a car at this price point, you would expect a generous display.
In person it didn't seem small especially as its mostly used for speed. The centre screen is huge
There is a HUD as well, what else is there to display?
Umm, because you can only see so much through the steering wheel. What's a bigger screen good for if the steering wheel blocks it?
gahh damnit ... nothing is affordable... ughhh ... 50k ... 🤦🏾♂️😤 ... but alex always has good reviews, so i watch
That's what the Volvo EX30 is for.
@df3555 that shit won't be affordable either lol 😂...
What's the color of the other two in the video? Electron and Storm?
I love the design. It’s refreshing. Gives those vibes of high end Chinese cars, which makes sense given it’s owned by a Chinese company
Enjoy your trip to Spain. It is a beautiful country! The EV car is different, but nice as well.
Did the mentioned price include the new tarif on Chinese EV or do we have to add them.
Polestar 4 will also be manufactured in South Korea and USA.
@@user-op7vy5ny4r Not USA. That's the 3.
The Polestar 4 will in 2025 be produced in South Korea. I also think they are exploring the possibility to produce the 4 at the Charleston plant.
So it’s made in CN already and will be made in ROK from 2025, that’s is surely in addition to CN. If there were to add US plant that would be 3 manufacturing plants for a tiny volume. Never gonna make any money on that
I don't mind the lack of rear window, but I might mind how much is done through the screen.
That being said, gorgeous car with a gorgeous interior.
I agree, but at least it has some physical controls and Polestar is one of few brands who have a reliable voice control. Although I prefer physical controls of the ventilation, as in the PS2, I can accept fewer physical buttons thanks to 1) the big screen, 2) well functioning speech control.
Reminds me of the Jaguars I Pace. HUD available?
Did you watch the video??? HUD is standard
It looks awesome and probably drives great. My only concern is battery performance. If the ps2 is any indication, I really hope they don’t have a 10% gimp mode on this. Another thing: no rear wind shield. It’s almost a Tesla move where it’s really not needed and can compromise safety. I can almost predict that say someone you piss off in the neighborhood sandpapers your rear view camera. Now, you can’t see out the back.
Clearly, you live in a nbhd different than most.
It's the closest thing to an SUV that I want to drive. My wife just got a P2 and really, really wants a P3. I'm trying to decide to get this or wait and hope the Volvo S60 goes full EV.
I love my Polestar 2 but after seeing this I would rather have a Lucid Pure for about the same price. The P4 seems bigger but with even more compromises except you do get two usable cup holders.
Looks like a fancier Buick Envista.
Bummed Polestar ditched Ohlins dampers for the performance model. They must've only used Ohlins as a temp supplier to give the floaty Volvo platform more of an edge
I want this to be my next car. Likely I'll have to wait for a used one.
Isn't this market segment for big SUV's at $50k+
over-saturated by now?
Looks great! Too bad it's $20k more expensive than the Zeekr on which it's based.
Awesome car!
Is the increased 100% more tariff on Chinese EVs going to affect all Polestar models?
No since the 3 will be built in the USA and the 4 will be built in South Korea.
Why do you say coup instead of coupé??
Starts at 55k goes till 83k, would be able to lease it for $349 per month with zero down in a year
This or Ioniq 5N? I'm taking the I5N
Not even comparable
My dog says no to riding in the back of this car
Having driven the Polestar 2 as a rental car for +1800km across Germany on a business trip the single most annoying thing about it was the wide bulky center console taking away too much room for legs / knees. Completely unnecessary. For short drivers it may not be such an issue but for anyone longer than 6 feet / 1m83 the knee is blocked between the steering wheel and the too bulky and too wide center console, in the shape of a funnel. And it looks like Polestar uses the same in it's models 3 and 4 too. Am I the only one finding this annoying or has anyone else made the same experience?
Future of interior design: charge more for materials literally made of garbage and just stick an iPad on the dash. Phew, that was hard work. 🙄
To much screen dependency again.....but looks nicer then any Tesla...
It's alright.
As a hearing impaired individual, I wonder if cars without rear windows will cause issues with restricted drivers licenses that require inner and dual outer mirrors. I guess theoretically the rear camera would count as the inner mirror, but I could also see the law not being that flexible.
Most states in the USA require two mirrors, that can be a side view plus a rear view mirror, or two side view mirrors. Some states don’t require a mirror at all.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide That would be the case for an unrestricted drivers license. For hearing impaired individuals in Ohio at least you get an "F3" restriction which requires all three mirrors to be present.
I test drove many different EVs, but after driving all these EVs, I think Tesla is the standard, the refinement, the tech and the quality is much better than any other OEMs, especially the 2024 M3.
I'm actively cross shopping this against the GV60/GV70 and Q6 etron with a $75k setup. I think the equivalent Macan I'm pricing is north of $91k so isn't really in the same class.
What's frankly irritating is that every vehicle in this "inbetween" class (luxury-not-quite-compact-SUV thingys) has some kind of annoying compromise. GV70 is the perfect size but doesn't have a dedicated platform of the GV60 and its interior space suffers for it. The Q6 etron is technically brilliant but looks very boring and audi's service experience is subpar for the price. Polestar 4 looks gorgeous but is a slower DC charger than the Genesis and Audi. I don't want to throw money down the drain with a lease so for me I'll have to pick my "poison" in the compromise.
Nice Color. Stubby
Range??
Around 300 miles (WLTP) , maybe a little less if you use the EPA standard
@@michaelrasmussen6953 thank you. I guess I won't get into an EV until I see 400 miles range crossover or SUV.
Coming to a sci-fi apple tv show soon
Good looking car inside and out. The pricing is kind of a stretch. I dont really see 30K more luxury, space, performance, etc over a Model Y, for example. Same thing can be said about the EV6. If this car was able to get 400 miles of range it would be easier to justify... Maybe for 60K its a nice EV.
It is way more premium than any Tesla model. If you want a box on 4 wheels that can take you from A to B then buy a Tesla. If you want a premium feeling and a car that handles great (a drivers car) then buy a Polestar.
This is a higher level car in terms of build, dynamic qualities than Tesla. This is for the customer that doesn't care all that much about range but more about traditional car qualities like ride/handling, braking, build, etc. EV or not, you still pay for refinement in a car, not range.
@@benjaminsmith2287 all true! The car should be good to drive. I have driven 001 and it was surprisingly good so expect PS4 to be even better given how much influence PS had over it. ADAS maturity initially may be an issue if they use the same HW and SW as Zeekr (I don’t know if they do).
And based on Zeekr cars I work with (001 and X), the build quality is really good. No issues there.
PS. Good to see you again Benjamin, hope you’re doing well
Another manufacture chasing the Korean automakers. Def look like the Genesis
I don't understand the trend of super huge wheels on electric cars.
Gorgeous color. Looks pretty close to my S40 T4 “Maya Gold”. Beautiful Polestar 4. Too bad a rear window is not available. 👎🏻
It would be so tiny based on where the structural element is. It would be minimally useful.
I hate that glass roof. It would be a deal breaker if I could afford it.
Drive the BYD Shark!
God what were they thinking with the lack of rear window? That would literally be a breaker for me, and I otherwise love this car. I always use my actual head to look over my shoulder, I never drive dependent on mirrors. And on top of that, it makes the cabin feel so claustrophobic even just from the standpoint of comfort and design, let alone safety and visibility. I thought Volvo was the safety brand - this is bizarre and truly a miss.
It has 11 cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar. You are better off looking at the screen than over your shoulder.
the glassroof makes you feel claustrophobic?
I look over my shoulder when backing out of parking spots but the rear view camera gives you a better view of what's behind you since you're not seeing between back headrests and pillars. @@TheBlumfeld Yes, it does. When Alex shows the back seat, that looks like a horrible place to be. The roof may be glass, but you're still now eliminating daylight from the entire back half of the car. Yes, feels very claustrophobic. Wouldn't be for me, in a car that otherwise really 'would' be for me. Shame.
This isnt a Volvo!!!
non-turbo Macan EV starts at 80k and maxes out at 100k. Doesn't feel like this is a direct competitor.
Its better quality inside!
Needs to cost 30% less and it will sell well. Way too expensive for what it is.
Compared to which car? IMHO you get much more for your money with Polestar in actual driving experience than comparable cars.
@@thomaswestin6745 I test drove a polestar2 and was extremely underwhelming. Driving dynamics are on par with other EVs, but back space and overall quality was low. Ended up with an Ionic6.

As long as I have a choice, I will never buy a passenger car with no rear window.
Rear passengers should be treated to a screen on the back of the front seats so they can also look backwards.
Zeekr 001 also from Geely is a far better car imo.
Why do they do reviews with no driving experience?
Im tired of companies copying the dumb tesla design of just a stupid tablet and no buttons!!!! No rear window is just dumb!!!!

I hope no one would want a car without a rear window! Why not just not have any windows, just cameras, that would be what I want……
Sarcasm apart, the reasons to removing the rear window, I can just echo Polestar: 1) to increase visibility, 2) increase headroom, while keeping a sporty, coupe shape. And yes, I have tried it and it is correct. Try it yourself.
The PS2 is a Volvo, Polestar 4 has nothing to do with Volvo
up to 25k more than a model Y? Hang on tight, this will depreciate so fast your head will spin. 50% off in 18 months

Yet another ev no one can afford. When will there be EVs that cost under 35,000 again? Or is that just a distant memory at this point. And no I'm not talking about with tax credit. My ioniq ev was 32,000 msrp before the credit and it was the limited trim. I think the base model was 28,000.
When manufacturers make evs with real world price tags I'll care about them again
You mean YOU cant afford??
Seems similar to a Tesla but more expensive.
Looks better than a Tesla but that’s not saying much.
First impression that I get when I saw the bezel of the center infotainment system was that that I thought it was the 2024 VW ID.4. :)
Enough with the expensive EVs!! Why aren’t manufacturers making electrics for the masses???
Because sadly most vehicles of any description are bought by above average income earners
How the camera works at night especially when it's raining , snowing , road grim will be the challenge . I Have a feeling you'll see a lot of em with rear damage and probably short lived before they put a rear window in it.

It's designed and developed in Sweden. It has no camparison with most Chinese EV's. Polestar design is simple and a little minimalistic. Every aspect i thought thru and the handling and driving feel is at the very top. Chinese EV's are, in my opinion, too much. Too much outside and inside, colors everywhere. It's like inside a Mercedes which i also find very odd.
Love the design and look of Polestars. They are very well executed.
@@michaelrasmussen6953 Exactly right. People are way too much into because Polestar is owned by a Chinese company it's like a Chinese car. It's not. Polestar is Volvo's former (and current for some models) sports division and the people designing and running Polestar are former Volvo designers and engineered and based in Sweden. And while it is true this car is based on the Zeekr001, there are modifications, and the Zeekr001 was designed in Sweden, not China.
This thing doesn’t make sense. The design is a bit ridiculous, the rear window is ridiculous, the powertrain being an EV is ridiculous, and the pricing is ridiculous. It’s a compilation of nonsense. At least the BZ4X is more practical with good warranty, but this has no selling point.

way too expensive for an chinese car
Polestar is a Swedish company, not a Chinese one.

@@JasonD-yc3oy Made in China doesn't mean Chinese. If that's the case, then a huge percentage of the Western products we buy are Chinese. And what you say about Swedish cars is ludicrous. And an American company is the one that screwed up and killed Saab while a Chinese owner has Volvo expanding while maintaining their home base and personnel.
btw, the Polestar 4 will be made in Korea next year but it won't be any better built than the Chinese one as the specs to build them are identical.
iPhones are made in China too.
So an impractical car with limited cargo and weird seating that does NOT have air suspension for 80K? Good luck with that polestar. ....
The pre orders say you're wrong!
$50-80K for a car which cannot seat 5 adults comfortably, which does not have large trunk space, which relies on a camera to look behind - so you get more distracted while driving whereas a human eye can process with a quick glance at a mirror. You get yellow seat belts, a tablet on the dash for all that money. Good luck selling it. Please bring back Volvo station wagons - aka tanks - back at reasonable prices.
Another luddite, nothing to do with Volvo, it can seat 5 fine, the camera for the rear view works under all conditions as good as a mirror, maybe sit on one, do a bit of research before talking crap!
@@ALFOONUS Luddite is an interesting thing to call someone. I am an engineer and try to apply KISS methodology everyday. So a camera instead of a mirror is a solution looking for a problem. From a simple mechanism which is very hard to fail, you move to an electrical camera system which can have many failure points. Moreover I own a 2016 Volvo. Volvo’s back seats can sit 3 kids comfortably but it cannot sit 3 adults comfortably. I know this because I sit in one every day. One solution I would be interested for example - since Volvo introduced seat belts - can you come up with a seat belt design which does not require booster seats for kids - since Volvo also is the only manufacturer which is offering integrated car seats - sadly they are phasing it out a usable solution as well. May be they can eliminate windshield for aerodynamics and replace it with cameras. And when I oppose it for safety you can call me luddite again

I wish I could find something nice to say about the styling, but I don't find the exterior attractive. To me, it's not "slinky coupe styling" but rather ugly, stubby hatchback. I guess the front isn't as ugly as the Polestar 2 ... but that's a easy bar to clear.
I find the wheels a bit ugly tbh.
Exterior to me looks odd mainly because of the lack of a rear window
