MOUNTUNE CAST INLET MANIFOLD INSTALL! | FOCUS RS

  • The time has come for more custard!
    This is the latest performance mod session that I have done to my Ford Focus RS MK3 and it features the up-rated cast inlet manifold and the throttle body spacer from Mountune!
    It makes good sense to install these two mods at the same time since it would be awkward/time consuming to repeat certain actions if doing them separately.
    The spacer will add plenum volume and have similar smoothing benefits that the intake manifold spacer has had that I installed recently so matches well with it and then the Mountune cast inlet manifold itself joins everything together so everything is upgraded!
    The Mountune cast inlet manifold is very sturdy compared to the stock plastic part. It comes all necessary mounting hardware including bolts and brand new genuine Ford gaskets.
    The Mountune cast aluminium inlet manifold adds reliability, together with adding a host of useful additional features.
    In addition, the Mountune inlet has been engineered to house four optimally located pfi / methanol injectors for applications requiring additional fueling demands.
    It is supplied with a thermal gasket to prevent heat transfer from the cylinder head, as well as optional locating posts to easily run with or without the oe engine cover.
    I show the process of removing the stock inlet manifold as well as the addition of the optional throttle body spacer at the same time and then how to install the new Mountune intake manifold, starting with the removal of the under tray and then disconnection of all the bits that need to be unmarried from the manifold before removal.
    The installation wasn't too difficult and the new manifold looks fantastic in the engine bay and will be much stronger and capable of handling much higher boost that the stock plastic part!

    Recently snapped the little plug that the BRA attachment goes to that’s connected to the intake manifold. I knew there would be some small clips that I didn’t see. Wanted to make sure I didn’t break anything else. Video helped me. Thanks my man!

    Adam, thanks for the how to video on how to pull the RS intake. I'm installing a Radium Engineering baffle plate to match my Radium catch can. You made it simple. I had it off in less than 30 minutes. I had a slight issue at 2:45 with connectors on each side. I was under the impression they needed to be disconnected. I tried for 10 minutes and after scraping my knuckles I gave up. Come to find out they didn't need to be disconnected. Wish you would have said they do not need to be disconnected. It's all good. Thanks again. I'll be in the UK in June. Maybe I'll bump in to you.

    Great video Adam. As you know I had mine fitted last year but I never used the spacer. What’s the benefit of the spacer if you don’t use aftermarket boost gauge? When I had mine fitted I could not get hold of the oil breather. I have one now but looking at your video it’s going to be inlet manifold off again.

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spacer adds volume which can help with throttle response. The breather 100% requires the manifold off unfortunately yep. Cheers John :)

    Very useful video Adam. I got the SD spacer rather than Mountune but when I placed it on top of the Mountune intake manifold, the bolt holes lined up but the spacer diameter was slightly smaller than the diameter of the intake manifold. Should it be flush to the intake manifold diameter? If not, would this be a problem to the performance? I also noticed that the SD spacer is not as deep as the Mountune one. Cheers!

    I had a question.
    I’m doing an Alternator replacement job.
    I’m trying to find the easiest way of replacing the Alternator without taking too much things apart. Is the easiest way to replace the Alternator is to take off the Intake Manifold?
    Would that give me enough space or is there a better way???
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I took my manifold off on my ST (for cleaning etc) and I was able to do it all from above without removing the under tray. (Spanner = Wrench LOL!)

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Taking the under tray off just gives the option as it can be a tight space getting the hose all the way on from above, especially with the extra spacers. yes I know that spanner is the same thing as a wrench but wrench is more American and spanner is more UK and Ireland so I tend to say both from time to time

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Graham, if you buy the plugs from Mountune then you do not need to gap them as they come pre-gapped which is awseome :) They do need to be torqued, yes. I can't remember the torque value right now but I will be making a video on this soon! Cheers :)

    • @Tyr1001
      @Tyr1001 ปีที่แล้ว

      in and of itself, no. The cast part is much more robust than the OEM plastic, though, and can stand up to more abuse which it will see as the engine sees more and more upgrades. If you tune for more and more power, little stuff like this will come back to bite you if you leave it as is

  • @laurahunt5146
    @laurahunt5146 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What power are you running mountune recommend that you forge at 400hp and above.

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      420 now and have been for over a year. Mountune recommend it for 2 reasons: 1. Because they want you to spend lots of money to get them to forge 2. The higher power Mountune maps are not very good. You don't need to forge at this power level if you have a good map and also avoid lspi from bad driving
