    Really sickening hearing the kind of questions Vince was asking Brian Pillman’s widow like “What are you gonna now? you’re a single mother of five kids”. Sounded like Vince was adding insult to injury.

    • @KamelotFan17
      @KamelotFan17 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It made a lot more sense for Shawn to win it. At the time, the WWF only did like one mainstream show a decade in the UK. Bulldog winning would have been a feel good moment for the night but the very next day back to the mid card he went. He also made a critical error in telling his family he was going to win the match and dedicating it to his dying sister in a business where anything can change at any time. Also, we don't really know for sure that Shawn 'convinced' Vince to do anything. That is a narrative the dirt sheets have been pushing since then, but no one really knows for sure. Shawn and Vince both say it was Vince's idea. Even if it wasn't, Vince had the final say regardless.

    Misawa's death happened when I was still fairly new to Japanese wrestling. It really stuck out in my mind how they blended reality in with a focus on the back suplex being put over as a death move (quite literally).

    • @dashtoroya2838
      @dashtoroya2838 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the misawa's death is literally used in every go shiozaki's fued (go shiozaki was misawa's student and his tag partner during the night he died).
      Literally one of the top rated match of Noah was go shiozaki vs takeshi sugira and the promo literally had misawa in it.
      And akitoshi saito was made a top heel in Noah just because his move killed misawa (and saito faced many verbal abuse including death threats to a point where saito wanted to kill himself).

    • @ImagineABear
      @ImagineABear 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dashtoroya2838 Yeah I remember Saito at that point was a career midcarder, and the move that killed Misawa was one of the most real feeling mix of kayfabe and reality. The fact they managed to put the move over as a death move, all while putting Saito over as a somewhat sympathetic babyface who was adverse emotionally to using the move. I may not be remembering all the details 100% correctly but I remember it being beautifully done.

    Jon Moxley's final year in the WWE as Dean Ambrose during his heel run with the gimmick of insane germaphobe almost resulted in a real-life illness getting thrown into a storyline just for shock value and cheap heel heat, basically as what is now known by this point as during the feud with Seth Rollins Jon as he revealed in a interview that someone in WWE Creative had actually pitched him to do a heel promo where he states that Roman Reigns who he is good friends with in real life who was forced to vacate the belt due to his leukemia coming back and thus having to leave the company for real-life medical reasons deserved to get the cancer variant.
    Yep someone at WWE wanted to put Roman Reigns' real-life battle with cancer into a kayfabe Face vs. Heel feud with Jon as Dean in a Heel Promo stating that his in-real life best friend deserved to get cancer.
    And the future Jon Moxley was not happy with this creative decision at all as he stated in a interview "After Roman vacated the belt and began his chemotherapy treatments to take care of his leukemia which came back they had me turn heel and begin a feud with Seth with my gimmick being that of a paranoid, insane germaphobe who was going to be the WWE Universe's moral compass now I was willing to do what it took to make this gimmick work but a couple of nights before a episode of RAW I met with Vince and a couple of the guys in creative, and I was told I was going to do a heel promo in the ring during the show, I said sure what do you want me to say? I was shocked and disgusted by what they wanted me to say as they wanted me to say in the ring that Roman Reigns deserved to get leukemia I didn't want to do it and that was as they say the straw that broke the camel's back and I let Vince know that I wasn't going to stoop that low and say that one of my best friends outside the ring who is battling cancer deserved to get cancer just for shock value and cheap heel heat cause that isn't me so I asked Vince for my release from my contract as I was done with the company I was finished with them."

    using real tragedies to fuel a storyline is a big no.....just no. yeah it could be use to great heat but at the same time the promotion becomes just heartless and lost a lot of respect in the eyes for many fans or sensitive people who just go to a wrestling show but for vince is just more money for his pockets when he was around i guess
