I just found your channel. I had been thinking if it would be possible to have amazing quality videos but with low internet penetration, and here you are. One unlucky musician playing for a very lucky tiny audience.

Your voice is like silk and honey to my ears. I love these obscure histories.

RobertExplains a historical area I find fascinating that doesn’t get much coverage has gotta be Polynesia. I only really started thinking about preindustrial societies in the Pacific after seeing Disney’s Moana. There is just so much variety between Hawaii to New Zealand and Easter Island to Tonga. You might want to look into it.

+Cody-s Odyssey - I have looked into it, and it certainly is an interesting part of the world, especially once regular contact with European explorers comes about, and the different countries in the region adapt to that in different ways. Some collapsed because of it, while others like the Pomare dynasty used Europeans to propel themselves from local lords of a group of tiny islands into the most powerful kingdom in Polynesia. New Zealand definitely has a lot of interesting stuff going on as well around the same period. I don't currently have any videos planned on Polynesia (though that might change), but I definitely share your interest...

It could be me, but I'm a bit confused as to when all these things exactly happened, but it certainly was fascinating.

I'd like to make three announcements: 1) I'm going live tonight (22:00 CEST / 21:00 BST / 16:00 EDT / 06:00 AEST) for my first _official_ Q&A live stream, in which I'll be playing some games relevant to Greeks in the East, and engage in conversation with you guys. Should be fun, and I'd love it if you were there.
    2) As mentioned at the end of the video, I've created a survey that I'd really like you all to fill out. I'd like to do one of these every six months, hence the rather pretentious title, because I think it's important to keep regular tabs on what my subscribers and other viewers actually want, and how I can work that into the near future of the channel. It's only ten questions, so it shouldn't take you too long, but if enough of you fill it out, I could actually get some statistically significant data out of it, which'd be great.
    3) *Pointing Out Gothic Pt.3 - Style* will be my next video, but after that, I've got a number of options that I all think are really appealing, so I'd like to give you guys a choice in what that video is going to be. You can choose from *Four Judges on an Island* , *Darts in the Snow* and *Lakes and Muskets* . Don't worry, I'll end up making all three; this is just about which of them I make first. You can vote through the Strawpoll here: strawpoll.com/wpz32w81

I notice it is quite a while ago that you put this video up but wow! Thank you so very much for this video! As a person with a lot of interest in both Ancient Greece and Buddhist cultures, I need to do some reading on the Greek India; to which end I'd like to ask you for some recommendations, if indeed it is not a problem. :)

Indeed it is... I've been somewhat busy lately, so my uploads haven't come at the rate I'd like them to. Can't really fashion you with book recommendations on this subject; I only touched on the Indo-Greek Kingdom in this video with the level of detail that doesn't yet require extensive literature research. Should I come across something fitting in the future though, I'll be sure to inform you.

I gave a question. Wouldn't it be pronounced Makedon? AFAIK the Greek are so salty about the former yugoslavian republic of Macedonia being in English so similar to Macedon that it's only allowed to refer to itself as the former. Or was he actually from what's now TFYROM? I'm so confused! Robert, explain!

Klobi, I shall! :D Alexander the Great was born and raised in the Macedonian capital of Pella, which was within the modern borders of Greece. That said, the Kingdom of Macedon that he was born into stretched into modern Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey, so I suppose they've all got some claim. While I do understand the Greeks trying to protect what they regard as their cultural history, in truth that history is shared with their neighbours as well, so trying to stop them sharing in it isn't a particularly wise move, methinks. Mind you, it is a touchy issue, and there will undoubtedly be both Greeks and Macedonians who'll take issue with my view on the matter. As for pronunciation, I just go with the most common one in English. Yes, Macedon with the C pronounced like a K is closer to the original Greek, but if we can get away with saying Athens instead of Athenai or Thessalonica instead of Thessaloniki, I think that pronouncing one letter in the name Macedon differently isn't too much of a crime.

As for the name FYRoM, I think that's just a bit ridiculous. Historical regions being shared between different countries are very common, and for one of those countries to be named after the region isn't unique either. Yet, we don't see the Belgians insisting that Luxembourg calls itself the Former Dutch Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, or India insisting that Bangladesh calls itself the Former Pakistani Republic of Bengal...

@@RobertExplains You are right but you missing a point. The Slavs FYRoMians that claim they are Macedons, actually came to this land in 6th century AD and have nothing to do with Alexander the Great that they say so. Also they dont understand any Greek at all, so the problem is not the name as is the history they are trying to steal
