  • 🚩 With the decline of the Byzantine Empire, the Bulgarian and Serbian states were gradually losing their power, while the young Ottoman state began its conquest of the Balkan lands. Clashes between Ottomans and Serbs, beginning from the 1350’s, led to the gory Battle of Maritsa on 26 September 1371. Some of the powerful Serbian Principalities became vassals of the Ottoman State, while other rallied under the banner of Prince Lazar to stop the Ottomans in the battle of Kosovo...

It should actually be quite easy since the 'c' sound, which is actually ć in its actual latin form, is just a softer version of the č sound, which is the 'ch' sound in 'which' and in Russian surnames, for example 'Vladimir Ilych'. Its just that in many history books just media concerning Serbian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Bosnian, Slovene surnames which end in 'ich' are transcribed as 'ic' in English media, which causes the misconception. So its, Murn-ya-v-che-vich for English speakers I suppose.

it is ironic that both rulers died fighting each other (Murad and Lazar) and their sons were allies in Battle of Ankara fighting Timur. Serbians left the battlefield last. they fought even after Turkish forces changed sides and battle was lost. Stefan was a capable ruler. history does tricks on us from time to time.

Well, Despot Stefan Lazarevic, a ruller you are describing, is known as the black knight, one of the founders of the Order of the Dragon. He was one of the most capable knights of his time. Legend of the Black Knight, that has spread troughout Europe, originated from him. And yet, very few Serbs know of this. Bcos we don't learn this in School. We celebrate his father Duke Lazar Hrebeljanovic as a saint, and there is little to none mention of his son. All we mention in history books is that he was very young an inexperienced at the time of battle of Kosovo. And that Vuk Brankovic thought him and held the throne until he came of age to rule.

My ancestors - the hungarians - made a huge mistake by invading Serbia after it got weakened. I understand that it was a tempting opportunity but it alienated the Balkans, and ultimately caused Hungary's downfall in. They were extremely arrogant to not notice the threat lurking behind the borderlands, also they were not united, the different vajdas and nobles were having their own squabbles between one another. Greed and corruption was always the real enemy in one's country, as it is nowadays.

This nobility problem happened all across Europe, this tempting territories problem also happened in all the Europe. Its biggest problem was that was very dependent on Orthodox people in its military part, and the policy of Hungary regarding those people (after the fall of the Arpadian dynasty) was either forced conversion or direct exploitation as unskilled serfs thus it weakened its military very badly. Ottomans offered much better conditions for the Orthodox people and gained a lot of influence because of that.
Adding the huge dynamic in its royal dynasties, and also some of the kings were not at all aware about Eastern Europe politics, made the Hungarian nobility to gain huge unchallenged power and little interest in following the king (Mohacs is a representation how absurd the things got). Those free warriors were essential in balancing the power in the kingdom.
Hungary was not able to fix those problems until 1920.

First of all, I really have to compliment the effort. The amount of time you guys put into researching this is really evident, as you cite various primary sources, and have evidently looked into different narratives about the battle. The effort really surfaces when you mention several really minor details which instantly ring a bell to every battle of Kosovo nerd out there, like the narrative of Marko Mrnjavčević surrendering to Ottomans immediately after Maritza being challenged in recent studies, or Tvrtko's letter to Florence, etc. The other fantastic thing is the surprisingly good pronunciation and really good mapping, which often times gets really horrible when it comes to the partitioning Serbian empire.

Hi, a Turk here, i've also read historical accounts on both sides, first i like to thank the creators of this video for objective historical analysis of the battle because they've also used the Ottoman Sources.
Secondly, i've read in a source that the knight who killed Sultan Murat, Milos Obilic, had a dispute with Lazeravic and humiliated before the king, thus in the battlefield he felt like he has to clear his name, show his courage in the battlefield. The sources think thats the reason for his "kamikaze" cavalary charge.
Thirdly i would like to shout out to Serbian people for our dead relatives in the past i do not think it's an crime to say; it's was an honor fighting against you in the fields of Kosovo in 1389, and it was honor fighting beside you in Nicopolis against the Crusaders and against Timur in Ankara. Nation of fierce warriors. Wish you could held up that knightlyhood character as a nation and ultranationalistic atrocities in Bosnia didn't happen.. I've raised myself nationalistic hate towards the Serbian people when i was kid but seeing this historical accounts changed my view dramatically. Benefits of history. Peace.

Bosnia is a Serb vs Serb war regardless of their religion or name today, you can even see that in this video with King Tvrtko of Bosnia, Lazar and Altomanovic.
And Serbs suffered greatly under atrocities during 1991-1995, the most refugees (over 1 mil) ended up in Serbia, we were ethnic cleaned from a 100% Serb demographic area the size of Slovenia ((Republic of Srpska Krajina in Croatia, and inside the Federation of BiH (51%), and we have 35% of victims in Bosnia total number, which is around the same amount of population in Bosnia then.
Its just that in the 90s, everyone beileved CNN and BBC and other MSM as undisputed source (even Serbs did), and you didn't had internet to see all the information.

At one point most of them accepted islam and today they are saying that they were always some made up Bosniaks or whatever. To be clear those were no countries just regions and they were all called Serbs.
Through the centuries they decided not to be Serbs anymore and regions became countries. So today you have Bosnian, Macedonian, Montenegrin...

Ancient Gaul was the opposite to the Roman ideal. It was an ethnically diverse place. Seems like you also forgot the Carthaginians and Hannibal who almost overpowered Rome in the Punic wars. The kingdom of Pontus and the Mithridatic wars. The series of conflicts during the Roman-Greek wars. The Parthians and the Sassanids which in many centuries continue to be a thorn in the sight of Rome in the east of it. And the fact that not much is known of western europe esp. the British isles in that particular time but still the Romans managed to almost reach the northernmost part of the archipelago is something to be amazed of.

The Ottomans did not come back for 70 Years after the defeat at Kosovo in 1389. That was the second Time that Prince Lazar defeated Sultan Murat. The first Time was at Pločnik 1386.

  • @orkunyucel3095
    @orkunyucel3095 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

In the Ottomans, the first cannon was manufactured in Bursa in 1387. The first artillery units in the Ottoman army were used in the Battle of Frenkyazısı between the Ottomans and the Karamanids. However, due to the limited amount of gunpowder, very little was fired in that battle. However, the intensive use of artillery in the Ottoman army was for the first time during the First Kosovo War in 1389.
This is a very well known fact and is mentioned in many sources of that period. There is no mention of Ottoman artillery in your video. Really interesting...
In addition, the assassination of Murat I is different from the Ottoman historians who wrote about the event at that time. While walking around the post-war area, Murat I was assassinated by the Serbian Miloş, who hid himself among the corpses.
If Murat I was assassinated while the war was going on, as the Serbs told, because the throne was empty, Murat I's sons would leave the battlefield and set out for the capital to win the throne.
In Ottoman history, we see a similar one in the throne fights between the princes after the Battle of Ankara between Timur and Bayezid. In the Battle of Ankara, the sultan had been taken prisoner and each of the sons had left the battlefield with groups loyal only to them. But we don't see this in the Kosovo War. Murat 1. must have died after the war. Because right then and there, his sons fought with each other and Bayezid immediately took the throne by killing his brother Yakub.

So please make a bit more research, because the last stand of Christians was definitely not in 1389, Albanians continued the war up to the next 100 years.
Try to not make videos with channels such as " Srpske Bitke" that leads to ridiculous propaganda and offends your channel.

Epic for fairy tail. This was not historically accurate at all. It is just another Western *(UK) version of history for other parts of Earth. As a historian, and as a Serbian, was quite stunned by so much false information brought in this ''historical'' overview. Really how such people making such videos don't check sources properly? Especially how they don't CHECK SOURCES FROM THE COUNTRIES OF SUBJECT? It is not like we are on another planet. Serbia is just across some miles away, is it so hard to explore with Serbian historians where are primary sources before making such videos where you present to the world history? They claimed some unknown and uncertain information from some countries which aren't connected mainly to it *(like report to Florence by Bosnian king. ok wth?) Where are Serbian historical sources on all this? And why it isn't mentioned that Kosovo is a Serbian region and where battle has been undergoing? Also saying about vassals on Serbian land was quite inaccurate.
Really history is the most vaguest thing out there in science, always told by those who are in power to manipulate information.

I play as Serbia in EU and it's very interesting to replay this entire situation (or something similar, been a while), very challenging. You're basically the only thing standing between Europe and the Ottoman empire. It's a very delicate game of forming alliances, building economic power and not being too impulsive with the military (you become very rich as Serbia because of Bosnia and proximity to the Adriatic trade ports). I didn't realize Serbia just becomes a vassal, it makes sense though since I always lose if war breaks out and also judging by how Serbia is today lol.

Make allies with Poland, problem solved, when Ottomans attack byzantium you attack bosnia, build an army, try to make allies with hungary as well, when they come for you let your allies do most of the fighting and join in the large battles, it requires lot of micromenagment but it's possible to defeat ottomans, I managed to drive Turks out of balkans and take Constantinople by 1500

Many mistakes and relying on other sources than Serbian, which is absurd we may say if we talk about the battle which is concerned with the Serbian kingdom. It is like you would rely on sources from Hungary about the fall of King Henry of Brittain. It is sometimes even hypothesized that the linguistic boundary between the Geg and Tosk dialects originates in the boundary between the domains of the Epirote and "Illyrian proper" dialects of Illyrian. In support of these theories, it is mentioned that current Albanian words seem to have their Illyrian counterpart: thus to the Albanian Dash ("ram") would correspond the Illyrian Dassius, Dassus, likewise the Albanian Bardhi ("white") would correspond to Bardus, Bardullis, Bardyllis[18]. A few ethnonyms of Illyrian tribes would also seem to have their Albanian counterpart: thus the name of the Dalmatians would correspond to the Albanian Dele ("sheep"); likewise the name of the Dardanians would correspond to the Albanian Dardhë ("pear, pear tree")[19]. But the main argument in favor of this thesis is geographical: the areas where Albanian correspond to one extremity of the ancient "Illyrian" domain[20].
