I was deployed here with the Army in 2017. It is NOT a "gem." It almost never got below 100 degrees even at night. Now, the animals were amazing to see. The camels were friendly and walked right up to the fence. Saw a pack of wild dogs inside the wire, and even a couple of hyenas that scared the heck out of me. This place was horrible.
Rose colored glasses. The port is dead, but its all that is left. It's sustained by military bases and a sad French tourism. IF you decide to go, pay attention to the change of the city around 4pm. This is intended at the highest level. That said, its a beautiful and important country, and its people deserve better.
My homies and I (6 in total) spend 1 wk in Djibouti 2 wks ago and boy oh boy not even closer to what we saw on the brochures. Dirty, dusty, street vendors, beggars, animals (street dogs, donkeys, camels, sheep & goats) everywhere. So so so so so damn expensive to it was a 💩hole tho.
@@Matthew_Alex777 In relation to the so called Failed State they got Cooler Air (Issa Waraabe dont) No Mosquitos (Issa Waraabe do) & They got good electricity grids (Issa Waraabe don’t) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣what y’a gonna say now
@@Matthew_Alex777 how is it that Singapore, another country that is established in an important choke point with little to no resources, is one of the richest countries in GDP per Capita when Djibouti is basically broke? That is a failure imo.
@@JoeSyRasta For new generations, this is definitely the case but if you look back on people Harbi/Xarbi, these were definitely their feelings when they were fighting for independence.
The photo at 8:53 for "industrial parks and infrastructure projects" made me laugh
