I watched The Virginian as a grade school through high school kid. I slowly watched the show change to some degree each year (1962 - 1971). Several years ago I bought the whole series even with Men From Shiloh on DVD. I enjoyed the show as a kid and even in evening re-runs in my 20's years. I hadn't seen them for many years since then. I am now about half way through the 4th season on my DVD's. I have seen rapid changes in the show over recent months on those DVD's. Randy Boone is a pain to watch. I think this season four was his last hoo-ray on that show. I think it was a good TV show the entire run but did weaken with all the actor changes made during that run. I also do not agree politically with some of the stances made by the actors in that show. Sometimes way too liberal & sometimes way too conservative. I just watched an episode titled, Nobody Said Hello. It was sickening to watch. The whole town of Medicine Bow violently mad at a southern Confederate Officer that ran an old southern prison camp full of capture union soldiers. He spent 20 years in a Fed prison and comes to Medicine Bow to reunite with his wife & young son. The whole show is about how badly everybody in the whole town hates the Ex Confederate Officer. The Virginian himself is the only one that doesn't join the hating brigade. It is stated by one that the Virginian was a southerner. I thought the show was sat in Wyoming, not in Boston. It is all rather ridiculous except in the instance of a man that still wears Union Blue and lost an arm in that southern prison camp. He attacks the Confederate with a deadly weapon early in the show and is killed. They should have ended that turkey right there. It was hell to be in the southern army food wise in the later stages of that war. Being in either a Confederate prison or Union prison was total hell. The whole premise of that show is absurd.
