I heard somewhere that when Michael Landon saw the rushes of this first totally over the top episode, he said something like, "This turkey will last maybe six weeks!"
One of the first special 10 Episodes of Bonanza in the 1959-60 season that did loosely follow the history of the great silver strike in 1858-59 that became the Comstock Lode, and the founding of Virginia City. Being a history buff, those first 10 Bonanza Episodes are my all-time favorite episodes of the show. After that, Bonanza stories became more standard Hollywood / TV western. There are two great books that inspired the show, THE BIG BONANZA (1876) Dan DeQuille and ROUGHING IT (1872) Mark Twain. Both authors had lived in Virginia City during the original glory days of the silver strike, both as newspaper men writing for "The Territorial Enterprise" and living in the genuine 'Wild West' era. The Bonanza Season 1 Episode 5, "Enter Mark Twain" shows the arrival of Twain in 1860 roughly, when Twain actually did not arrive in Nevada Territory until July 1861.
Pernell said he would have stayed on Bonanza part time after season 6 but they ( shows Producer's) didn't let him. He wanted to purse theater his first love and become an actors actor. One of the reasons he left Bonanza was there was no real acting challenge for him playing Adam Cartwright. The lines were simple and the character was simple.

@GrjngoWesternSeries is there a format to find the early episodes in order,e.g.2,3,4,5,thru 10 I have been watching the episodes randomly out of order
I was at my grandpa's house yesterday and they played Bonanza season 7 ep 25 about a rich boy named Jamie who the Cartwrights take care of for 2 months and straighten him out. I'm 28. I've never watched this show before, but I enjoyed that episode, so I'm going to begin watching every episode. We'll see how long it takes. I know there are like 431 epiaodes.
Personally both their comments about each others mothers were very uncalled for but I would say Adam's was the little more tamer one. Not so much because of what was said, but due to the fact that Adam lost his mother at birth and thus has no real memories or connection to her, while if I'm understanding the cannon of this show Little Joe's mother died when he was around 4 or 5 so likely has some memories or connections to her. Honestly either way both crossed a line but that's just my opinion on the matter
@@kat543I agree with you. Their derogatory comments about each other's mother would never have been spoken or even thought in the later episodes. I feel the writers should have introduced the background of each son having different mothers in a manner that wasn't so ugly.
Haven’t watched Bonanza in a while. This episode is reminding me how head over heels ❤️ i always was for Hoss. Still am. What i wouldn’t give for a Hoss of my own. 💞
Hard to believe this is the same show after seeing later episodes. The first episode I actually saw was the one where they brought in Will. I may be a minority but my favorite era of the show is seasons 9-11. David Canary (Canady) I always thought was best thing to happen to the show. Little Joe was my favorite when I first got into but Adam has really grown on me after seeing more stories with him. Really wish we could have had Adam and Candy at the same time. Anyway, luckily Lorne Green insisted to the writers to mellow out the Cartwrights after these early few stories and rest is kind of history.
It's like with the early episodes of sanford and son where Lamont was really rough and disrespectful to his father and after numerous complaints from viewers the writers mellowed Lamont out a bit and made Fred the more grouchy, hair brained scheming one while Lamont became the voice of reason.
At least Rivers and Seas boiling, 40 years or darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes, dead rising from the grave and we all know what happens when dogs and cats live together didn't enter Ben's thinking.
Marissa, Joe was the heart and soul of Bonanza. They could never have done it without him. He is warm, funny, spirited, with a heart of pure gold. Added to that, he is the most gorgeous man who ever lived.
@@fastguned No, I'm not wrong, and neither are you. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. For me, Joe was the show's heart and soul, for you it was Hoss. I loved Hoss. I thought he had the nicest character of the three sons. But I still preferred Joe.
@@CathyKitson Well you have a point. However if Hoss had not been on the show I would not have made a point to watch every single week as a child growing up Hoss was so different from any other actor on any other western series at the time. Joe was cute but did not have quite the engaging personality that Hoss had. Usually boys loved Hoss and girls loved Little Joe but my 3 sisters preferred Hoss.
Christopher Dark plays Doc Holliday in a later episode. He has more of a role in "Calamity over the Comstock" than his portrayal of Langford Poole. He's pretty good looking for a villain.

I heard somewhere that when Michael Landon saw the rushes of this first totally over the top episode, he said something like, "This turkey will last maybe six weeks!"
This is one of my favourite episodes, luv all the Cartwrights working together, such an awesome family bond..
5:32 I used to watch the show growing up before school in the morning I would get up early just so I could watch this every single day and I don't know why I ever even started or who told me about it or why. But I did I watched it every single day every morning. 5:33 I'm from New England

I accidentally began watching an episode from a different "poster"! I realized it as soon as I stopped to read the description and saw that it wasn't from GRJNGO. I closed it and found this. Thank-you you for the uploads VERY MUCH. Thank-you for including back stories and reviews. I came across your channel about 3 weeks ago and I look forward to watching one or two episodes every evening. It lifts my mood and brings back precious memories of watching with my family all those years ago. Thank-you sincerely Grjngo.
We're happy to entertain you! 🙂🤠☀️
Too bad Grjngo hasn't uploaded all the episodes, because Grjngo's sound and picture clarity beats any other poster.
@GrjngoWesternSeries is there a format to find the early episodes in order,e.g.2,3,4,5,thru 10
I have been watching the episodes randomly out of order
Great tv series when westerners ruled tv and films.
Adam's comment about Joe's mother seemed a bit insulting which is a bit odd since Adam probably has many more memories or her than Joe did.
Yes, there is a later episode where Hoss's uncle comes to visit and Adam replied to Hoss "That's quite an uncle we have Hoss".
@@user-pd7il3xz5j their father was married to both their mothers and he didn’t mind
@@kellymcfalls1458 Ben wasn't in the room when Adam and Joe were arguing, for if Ben heard those insults, he would have chastised them.
I am hooked again can’t stop watching love the Cartwrights
Haven’t watched Bonanza in a while. This episode is reminding me how head over heels ❤️ i always was for Hoss. Still am. What i wouldn’t give for a Hoss of my own. 💞
Lily Munster , so cool to see her in another film. 😌
I always enjoyed Yvonne D Carlo's acting. A beautiful Canadian actress.
That was really cool the way that Little Joe used the umbrella 🌂 like a sword to fight with.
Ben’s dialogue early on is so ridiculous lol FIRE & BRIMSTONE LOL
At least Rivers and Seas boiling, 40 years or darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes, dead rising from the grave and we all know what happens when dogs and cats live together didn't enter Ben's thinking.
Season 1 the first 3 episodes were weird then they changed
MANY GREAT SERIES BACK IN THE DAY,,LOVE THEM ALL .THANKS FOR BRINGING THEM BACK.
That was a great episode. I don't think I saw this one 1st time around. Yvonne De Carlo was so beautiful.
Bonanza is the BEST western show EVER!!!! I love it. Joseph is my all-time favorite character!
Yes it is and we got plenty more episodes to come so dont forget to subscribe for more! ✌🍿📺
Marissa, Joe was the heart and soul of Bonanza. They could never have done it without him. He is warm, funny, spirited, with a heart of pure gold. Added to that, he is the most gorgeous man who ever lived.
@@CathyKitson WRONG Hoss was the heart and soul of Bonanza. When he died the show only lasted one more season.
Love bonanza. So glad it got better after this first episode.
I don't think that this is the first episode.
All Lotta wants is a handsome man. Little Joe certainly is that and more.❤❤🤗
Christopher Dark plays Doc Holliday in a later episode. He has more of a role in "Calamity over the Comstock" than his portrayal of Langford Poole. He's pretty good looking for a villain.
Gen z here, me and my gf and parents watch a lot of this show and I love it, I’m trying to watch every episode like them
Ben and Adam the first two characters to be introduced to us.
i've never seen this show this is the very first time im watching it. im very excited i love classic shows despite being 18. im ready to start this amazing journey! (January 5th 2022)
You are in for a treat, young fellow.
Currently halfway through season 2, this is an amazing show!❤
Me too.
Yvonne Dicarlo WOW. My first memory of her was playing Lily Munster. i thought she was the sweetest most beautiful creature i’d ever seen! lol and that was _BEFORE_ i got old enough
to recognize her in movies 🍿 like McClintock! The more i searched back, well i’m pretty sure she was BORN gorgeous! Also, it seemed (at least in the parts that i loved her in) that she often played a character with a ❤️. Even here, she was kinda greedy but never intended for anyone to be hurt. That’s just human nature, really. Anyhoo, she was SPECTACULAR, may she RIP 🙏🏻💞
She was prettier in The Ten Commandments.
Nostalgia! Relaxing... letting go of the burden of the day...watching Bonanza...soothing and restoring the inner balance
Слава ! Слава ! Слава !
My parents loved this show and i loved watching with them, theyre both gone now but ill always have my memories
Used to watch this with my grandfather. Miss it
This is brilliance that we will never see again..😢. You gotta love Sen Yung Especially in the Charlie Chan series. It’s so cool how these first few episodes the acting is terrible, and they slowly melting into some of the finest acting you ever seen
Jeeee Adam if i only was born in the 40s
Gosh his voice his eyes🥰🥰🥰😍
We will meet one day in heaven.
Thank you so much for posting all Bonanza seasons, love you!
Mrs. Munster was an excellent actress. And beautiful.
De Carlo seemed to be in love with herself and her looks.
@@per-arnemoa103She definitely had an up and down personal life (in more ways than one).
Love watching western movies since my childhood... Keep me watching...
WOW! The Cartrights started out a very violent bunch!!!!
Ben was like, " murder that guy if I'm not back in a few hours" 🥺
They were clannish then.
@BRADCTV. No they didn't.
@@lynettepalecek3141 lol I'm not saying they were evil. I'm just saying the show began much more graphic in their violence and tamed as production went by. This often happens with shows such as this and the Dukes Of Hazzard. Both my beloved shows.
Rest in peace Dan Blocker, Lorne Greene, Michael Landon, Pernell Roberts, David Canary, and Victor Sen Yung never dies! 🙏
Weird about Adam being a Yankee when Pernell Roberts was a Southern guy from Waycross, Georgia. And Joe being a Southerner when Michael Landon was from New York.
THIS WAS A GREAT EPISODE! I REALLY ENJOYED IT! IT WAS A LOT BETTER THAN A LOT OF THE LATER EPISODES!! IT WAS MORE REALISTIC THAN A LOT OF THE LATER EPISODES!!! GRJNGO, COULD YOU PLEASE UPLOAD MORE OF THESE EARLIER EPISODES? I ENJOY THEM VERY MUCH!!!!
Thanks for watching! We also recommend this movie: th-cam.com/video/wj_vapcyMT4/w-d-xo.html
@@GrjngoWesternSeries Okay. Thank you.
Wasn’t this supposed to be the episode they sing the song “Bonanza”?
I was finally able to find all of the Bonanza episodes. Very pleased.
My mum would watch with my grandfather and told me to TH-cam it, and here it is on your channel! Thanks again Grjngo!
Wow!! They really changed the characters after the pilot episode. They needed to Ben looks like a crazy man in this episode.
Michael Landon looks like a teenager here!!
And acts like one too.
@@trwentHis character was 17.
He was 22
I'm glad they got someone who looked that age, because he's supposed to be.

In the pilot episode of Bonanza in 1859, Little Joe Cartwright is estimated to be around 21 years old, while Adam Cartwright is around 30, and Hoss Cartwright is around 25-26. In the episode
Lol I love how Hoss breaks up there fight good show
Why can’t the world be like one Big Bonanza. Will always Love this show.
Loved watching Bonaza as a child and now as I have been watching all the series again I realise that "Women " were very unlucky for them ...they always ended up in trouble or with broken hearts 💕💞
And we're always sent to bed to take some rest: "why don't you take some rest"?
ya, you had to have been a child back when. lol.
@@gerritsteenbreker4781 Or given a sedative or told to pull it together. A product of the times! It would be interesting to see how women would be cast if the show was done today. Given Pernell Robert's commitment to women's issues, I have to believe that there would be stronger women characters in the plots. Thank you for your comment.
@@deborahanntaylor375 If they did it the way that you say today, having "strong" women in the show would have ruined it for sure.
@@gerritsteenbreker4781 When the Cartwrights told a woman to rest, they were showing that woman a lot of proper respect the way that a true gentleman would.
Surprisingly I like the early hard-core seasons the best!!
I agree!! The earlier seasons were a lot more realistic. I definitely enjoyed the earlier seasons too.
@@lynettepalecek3141 I miss it when the show was more diverse with weapons. After season 3 it seemed like everyone sticks to Colt 45's and Winchesters.
@@coltgun876 Thank you for pointing that out. I don't know much about guns, but I believe you.
My family use to watch this series back in the 1970s-1980s. Today I still enjoy watching them. Michael Landon was cute then and cute in Bonanza and also cin house of the Perarie.😂 series ❤
I like the way Hoss used his shoulder to push Adam to approach the lady.
This lady after all the pains Adam inflicted on her, could still like him n kissed him. Guess she gets turned on by pain.
I really didn't understand that interaction at the end.
Hoss is the best😆
Love to see what happens when Herman catches up with them.😀
I like how the wind from the chinese dudes punch (44:04) knocked that guy clean off his feet. LoL
What a start 15 January 2023.first episode is very exciting I wish for whole series to be exciting.thank you TH-cam.
Mar.7/'22..Well, this is a surprise...always loved this TV series...great actors plus well developed characters & scripts!
Loved Adam with color in his clothes, he mostly wore all black later on but still sexy.
Love these classics
They must have had great fun filming these!
Silly beginning...but ohh...Pernell Roberts!
I love these Wild West series and novels, thank you for uploading Bonanza! :) I even have a cactus bed with a Wild West theme, a little wooden farm house and the owners fighting some evil gunslingers. :D
Grew up watching all kinds of westerns, especially Bonanza.
BUT I've never been able to see them from the beginning. I'm so excited right now
38:00 Little Joe finally gets to put those fencing skills to use
YES!!!
@C Gallagher. Yes, and he loved it!
yo creo que Michael Landon era muy inteligente y se quedaba con todo, aprendió a escribir y dirigir y además era un gran atleta, siempre le tocaba papeles de saltos y peleas
My favorite episode of the whole series 😎🤓
Thank ypu for uploading Bonanza!...love it!
Thank YOU!

Bonanza was one of the best program. Movies. That. That they. Could ever. Done
"What's so bad about a Yankee?"
"Ma'am, if you don't already know, I guess there's no use in my telling you."
Pretty much sums it up, right there. LOL

Hard to believe This Iconic series is now 64 Years Old.
Adam is such a good older brother...still a Cartwright.
Little Joe throws himself around...especially in the scene with older brother...
Didn't like it so much as a teen, but now in my 50's grown to love it.
