Love Eclairs or 'choux'! They are one of the easiest and impressive baking solutions. Boil a cup of milk and 1/4 pound of butter, then dump 1/3 pound of flour into the pan and quickly stir it into a ball of mash. Remove from the heat and mix in 4 eggs 'til smooth. Shape by spoonfuls into tiny buns, a wreath, or pipe into fingers, then pop in a hot oven until it smells baked and looks golden. Cool and cut open. Fill with sweetened berries and cream and sprinkle the tops with icing sugar. Or fill with cream and pour hot cream & melted chocolate sauce over them.
I'm from the same background and I feel the same way you do. The Queen is a remarkable woman. She has never put a foot wrong in upholding the dignity of the monarchy in her 70 years on the throne. She unexpectedly inherited the position as a young woman, and far from bemoaning her fate, she got on with what she had to do, with character and resilience. And then, in her final years, along comes shallow Meg and causes this level of grief. She is, in a calculated way, trying to damage the reputation of the RF and by extension, the monarch. With the apparent approval of Harry, who is reputed to be the Queen's favorite grandson. What a betrayal.
Hello, I really miss afternoon tea with my aunts. We had some good discussions and I really miss those dialogues and support. It made my life complete and happy. Happy memories of afternoon tea at home with my aunts! Stay blessed!!!!!
Michael! I just adore you! You are such a pleasant person, your eyes sparkle when you talk about any dishes, complicated or simple. You love the kitchen and those who create it. And I love you! Thank you!
I am a tea drinker all of my life, but, tea can cause cancer of the esophagus. You should only drink tea in the morning or late in the evening with dessert. An occasional tea in the late evening if you must.
I'm American. I worked as a legal secretary for a large Houston insurance defense law firm years ago. The managing partner and all the attorneys had a luncheon for us and all of our bosses actually served us. It was a wonderful day and meant so much to me and all the staff. They said it was in appreciation for all of our hard work and overtime when we had a tight deadline. I'll never forget that day. The ladies serving the maids seems like a similar idea. I bet the maids had an amazing time!
Sounds like a one time thing. More thought was put into it, than a nice thank-you note, to evoke loyalty and emotional binding. A touching gesture, they wouldn't necessarily have to repeat every time. Wouldn't it have been a real surprise to give you a little bonus or an extra day off for your work? And for the maids? If they realy appreciated their hard work they shouldn't have let them work extra without payment during holidays, for when they have to use the rest room etc., It was all summed up and you'll have to work it off. Giving up a free day of your already sparse free time is not appeciating their work and they would have to take the day of for this invitation, too. Also their social standing,...non regulated working hours,... But back in the day, who wouldn't have gone to this event? The maids would have been thrilled for the privilege of such an invitation and their employers would have wanted for them to go.

Yes, that is often high tea which may be the last meal of the day, particularly for children, or a light meal. Afternoon tea is quite different and usually includes light sandwiches, scones, and small cakes. Afternoon tea is quite formal in terms of etiquette while "tea" is relaxed.

Dominik Różewicz holy shit! I had no idea! Thank you so much for informing me.
TheOA99 yes..I understand the German people are quite fond of beer as well...😄😄.
Are the actual recipes available to today's viewers.
I’m also an American & I love all of the videos, too. I love seeing how the Queen & her family live. I’ve watched Prince William & Harry formally known as Prince grow up, marry & have beautiful children of their own. It’s all so interesting. 💕🐞👑🧁
It was absolutely lovely to hear about Prince Philip, my great great Grandmother is related to Prince Philip!
My third great grandfather was a Lyon related to the queen mother
She can have everything.Anytime any day .Every day of her life.24/7 . She is looked after and cosseted. Dressed .Need not do anything she does not want to do. Her family can always take over. Its her choice all the time. Her own cars train aircraft to go anywhere. What a wonderful way to live.
I love how they're talking about Mildred. I bet she'd get a kick out of knowing she was being remembered and talked about 100 or so years on.
The chef is a real professional . A joy to watch him prepare those pastries.
Weigh the eggs?! Now you know I've got to try that! Challenge accepted!
What an art! Wonderful! I can see why Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II loved afternoon tea.
Exquisite!
I am from Montréal Canada and i loved your videos. I would simply wish you would share the entire recipes with us (quantities and everything to be able to do them at home or at least try to do them)

Am An American born British i just love this channel.
I would like to know if there is a printed collection of Mildred Nicholls’ recipes? I did a quick search, and didn’t immediately see one.

I made the Bath buns by copying the recipe off the computer screen. They came out pretty well and they are good especially if you warm them up! Thanks for the recipe!

If I ever can visit London, definitely going to try some scones and traditional jam. Though I'm more of a strawberry jam person, than orange :) I love these videos and Michael is just a treat (heh) to watch! "No, no, no-no-no, NOPE!" Made me chuckle big time.
If it's cheaper to go to Canada you can go to 'the Blethering House on Vancouver Island in Victoria...real tea with scones and clotted cream and strawberry jam (if you choose) I was there 20 years ago , never forgot it!
There are tea rooms all over Canada especially on the 2 coasts.....both were settled with immigrants from the UK. You should check it out. I am not certain but I believe they do afternoon tea in the big hotel in Banff also.
I don't know where you live and it may be less costly to go to the British Isles...lovely place to visit!
Try and find an shop that imports British products so you can try now.
@@ladyjade6446 Hello. How are you doing?
I LOOOVVVEEE the londoneers they got HIGH GOOD CLASS, with tea and cake, biscuits, etc...Love there upscale tea and cookies.
When hearing Audley End I thought Mrs. Crocombe would make a cameo
Queen Elizabeth reminds me of my mom, manners and all!
Eclairs are called Liebesknochen in Germany, what translates to love-bones. And they really looked like bones laying on the table before coated in chocolate.
LOVE BONES!! That's too cute! German is a fun language ❤
I would love a copy of Mildred Nichols recipe book. Love the videos.
Poor diabetics watching this must be struggling with their cravings! Great video. I'm craving myself for an eclair, haven't had one in years.
They have them in the market I shop at. I have to walk fast passed the bakery or I would buy them every time.
Omg there was this bakery in London in the 70s Called The Crusty Cob and they had AMAZING strawberry tarts I’m craving right now here in USA! And yes I’m diabetic too!
Modern diabetes therapy certainly allows for one slice of Battenberg cake or one eclair ...three or four would be very unwise
As a newly diagnosed diabetic, you are right! I love scones and cream! No more fun :(
@@fsunole4 hhmmm..isn' t that if you hit your aim ( discussed with a doctor) like losing weight, then a planned full lovely scone 2x a month will be ok, with a measured amount of insuline ?
I so love watching these Royal Recipes shows with Michael. They are very interesting with history and what Royalty like to dine on. I lov laughing along with these videos with different chefs and Mr. Michael. Thank you for all you teach us. Oh by the way could you tell us about collated cream with scones and how to make it. I make scones, orange cranberry ones and would like to try them with the cream. Thank you again. Stay well and safe everyone. Always Lov, Linda Siclari-Elmore
that good linda and how are you doing
I love that red white and blue striped cake w the rose on top. However, the lovely leaves turned into a shiny green mush in front of our eyes. That recipe needs a lil tweeking....
I thought the same thing. It was sad to see the details in the leaves just go away
It was probably caused by the heat generated by the TV lights.
I love afternoon tea.I always try to have some kind of sandwiches with the sweets. I haven’t baked scones in years but I’m thinking of making those orange scones.
Hello Deila Realtor. How are you doing?
