We're taking a look at Exterior, Interior and the driving experience.
We all love Thomas but AJ nailed it here, full length full hd and just enough personal opinion interspersed with objective journalism. In the '90's this would pretty much be Autocar magazine.
Wow...Really Thanks AJ for such a wonderful video especially in English with great comparison. You have touched on all minute and technical details of both the vehicle models which is eye opener. I already had ordered GLB before watching your video. But after watching your video now i am confident that i made a right decision. Thanks a lot.
59k for the GLB 250 is already expensive, but also take into account that driver assistents, adaptive CC, HUD, smartphone integration and sunroof are all optional extras. So you need the AMG premium plus to make it a nice car, and that's 65k in total! And another 1400 if you want the 7 seater config. Crazy money!
The GLA needs the same options, so the price difference remains much the same. Neither car at their respective price points is a good value in my opinion.
@@Makro3dmost people buying German luxury brands wouldn’t have best value per dollar on their minds when picking a car. Otherwise they’d choose a Mazda or some other brand that is half the cost.
have a GLA 35 AMG. I am very satisfied. The GLB was too big for me. It's a pity that they eliminated Tuchpad because it was very convenient to use the screen. Fortunately, in 2022 I could order ventilated seats.
Good review, thanks! However, so many similarities between these cars and the GLC it makes almost no sense for somebody to pay the extra premium for the GLC, as the GLC now in this pricetag has many many competitors!
i got exactly to this point in june this year . My leasing after 3 years was expeiring and the dealer wanted me to upgrade to a GLC, (i own a GLB) sure i must admit the GLC is technologically a more advanced car, but interior space is less, comsumption is slightly more , and price was craaaaazy. So i paid off and kept my GLB !
Almost at same time my dad and i changed cars couple years back, he got a GLA 4 matic diesel and i got a GLB 200 diesel FWD . We know well the differences . My father is the "stportiest" one when it comes to driving and he loves the GLA , he hardly ever drives 4 people in the car so he does not mind about interior space . I myself are very pften on the highway, very often with 3 or 4 passengers and the car interios space are almost unique in this segment . I dont feel so much road noise or wind noise on the higway, actually it is really quiet ,maybe also because i invested in high quality / low noise tires that do the job, in town perhaps at slow speeds the engine is more loud but nothing serious . I have reached 100.000 km . Im my opinion both great cars , but i woule never change my GLB for a GLA even though probably the GLA looks sexier .
Great review! Can you please elaborate on the ventilated seat and cooling seat option? Is that only available on some of the earlier GLB model and not for 3024/2025?
Thanks, but what's missing in car journalism is comparison within a manufacturers line and between the standard and luxury lines (eg, tiguan vs q5 or crv vs rdx). What does the step between those two bands mean to the consumer? Is the luxury variant of the same car a marked improvement and in what way? Within the brand, what does it mean to step up to the more expensive models? I understand that the entry level luxury cars tend to cut corners. How do they compare?
@@autogefuehl Oh okay makes sense. I'm just a little bit confused when you say the GLA is in the AMG line and has the AMG grille @0:35. I'm not familiar with how Mercedes lineup is in Germany.
This comparison just proves that Mercedes-Benz is eating itself. What is the point in these two cars existing simultaneously within the same brand range?
Thank you for the detail. If you are buying any new ICE car today you may want to think of it as the last one you are going to have because new ICEs phase out in Europe, the UK, and elsewhere around 2030. Would you really want either of these cars as your last ICE? At that price? How dreary. Both cars reviewed seem to have toned down Mercedes recent teenage starship internal UI/UX with more real buttons and less touchscreen; but it is still pretty horrible. I can think of no reason to buy either car, even if you paid me to do so.
@@albertobenelli I drive a Mazda PHEV - yes pretty dreary but on the way to full EV. I am looking to change to something from Mini, Smart, or conceivably Alfa - all EVs. My last ICE was a 2017 Audi RS3 which I was forced to give up mid 2022 due to an injured arm.
@@sugarhog1938 That must be a used GLC? Here in Sweden the GLC starts from around €60k and the GLA /GLB 250 4Matic is around €50k. (List prices including tax and converted from SEK.)
@ Then why did they keep it in the GLE, GLS, E, S-Class and Maybach on top of all having touch screen if that’s not the case? Of course it’s to cut cost!!
These cars are exercises in cost cutting. They're horrible...especially for the price. Maybe at half the price it'd be good. But at these prices it isn't worth it by any measure. I had a GLB 220d. It was awful. Cheap materials. Average build quality. Every feature optional. Clunky gearbox. And it wasn't even that fuel efficient. The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro that my friends got was half the price and yet feels more expensive.
Test drove the B class a couple of weeks ago. As you say, the interior was incredibly cheap feeling. The door handles felt like a cheap plastic toy, hollow and creaky. The only saving grace was the high-resolution screen and a nice sound system. Driving was also no better than something from a mainstream brand. Average sound insulation, average ride, average performance. No sound deadening under the hood was very apparent while driving. The value proposition is poor in this compact, so-called premium segment.
