A lot of times, you may have an oil leak going into your alternator, it may be the o-ring on in the Pcv valve. Easy fix, drove me crazy thing it was the valve cover gasket
Okay so I have the same vehicle- 05 V6 Accord. I've noticed some moist black dirt around that same area. Do you think it's a leaking pcv valve?? I also noticed that the front of the engine, the exhaust side, on the exhaust mounting area to be moist. What could be the issue?? I have plugged in an obd2 scanner and found no codes or anything. There was no CEL too. The car also runs excellent with no issues even with 300k kms on the clock
You just have to get yourself a bright light and play detective. Keep in mind that things drip downward. Just follow the residue up until you find a source. A leak in an engine can only be so many things: gasket, seal, or a hole in the engine. The PCV valve has O-Rings, so in theory they may have failed and there is a leak originating there.
PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation. It recirculates fuel or oil back into the engine to be re-burned. When a PCV valve goes your car can smoke. Also you can blow seals. It is important to change.
I had an oil leak up there and pulled the pcv valve off to discover it was shattered in pieces... lots of tiny pieces. Should I pull the valve cover now seeing as there could be prices of plastic around the valves and camshaft? 😬
I'm probably not the guy to best answer that. Perhaps you can find an exploded view of the engine to determine if removing the valve cover will give you access to the required areas. May not be a bad time to change the oil.
Hey. When I first turn my car on It idles like It normally does but once It warms up It starts to idle rough and the exhaust has just a little bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust. Was that the same issue you had with your old PVC valve?
I wasn't having any issue, it was just routine maintenance. Blue smoke is oil getting into the cylinders and being burned.This could be a clogged PCV Valve, or worn out engine parts like the rings. Probably the place to start is to put a code scanner on it to see if you get any hints to the problem. Of course, PCV valves are cheap and easy to change, so if you just want to roll the dice, or maybe its past time to do it anyway...
Thx for the video. I changed mine easily in a few minutes with this info. I didn't need to pry it out, mine just slide out as soon as the bolt was loose. I did it with the engine cold. The old one did not rattle like the new one. Maybe this contributed to my front valve cover gasket leaking?
The rattling is because there is a small metal ball in the valve. If it wasn't rattling in the old valve, the valve may have been full of dirt or oil. Doubt this has anything to do with a valve cover leaking.
@@internal_dialogue9290 yes, the valve routes gases from the crankcase back into the intake where it can be burned. If the valve is blocked and there is no other route of escape, the weakest link in the system is going to eventually break so the gas can escape.

That's known as replacing parts hoping you get lucky :) If there is an engine light, the onboard computer should be storing some diagnostic codes. You need an ODBC scanner that you can plug into the car to retrieve the codes. You can find decent ones on Amazon for not too much. Or, go down to one of the big national auto parts chains and they will usually do it for you for free. Once you get the code(s), go google the codes and your year, make, and model and see where that leads you. Good luck! P.S. as far as your 2nd question, it depends on the car and the problem. Often times if the problem goes away, the errors clear and the light goes off. How long that takes depends upon the problem. You should also be able to clear the error codes using the ODBC scanner and if the problem still exists, the light should come back on. I would pull the codes first and see if the clues really lead to the PCV valve.
Yikes, how did that happen? Is it broken off flush with the metal ? If there is some plastic sticking out you could try to get a pair of pliers on it and gently work it out. Otherwise, you might be able to get one of those tools that looks like an ice pick with a U or L hook at the end and put it into the valve and see if you can get it to catch on something and gently work it out. Just be careful that you don't score the metal or get particles inside the engine. Maybe get a shop vac out there and suck out any broken pieces. You might also want to pull the dipstick and shine a light in there to see if you can see the end of the valve and get any clues as to how you might work it out w/o doing any damage. If in doubt, get a mechanic to do it. You don't want to make matters worse.
My engine was burning smoke from exhaust. A friend suggested I replace the PCV valve. When I took the bolt out, the large part fell out. The rest was stuck inside valve cover. I used a mirror, a light, and some creative small picks to wiggle the smaller part out. It was tedious, but solved the smoky exhaust issue.
It was just preventative maintenance. The car was 10 years old and it was time. You can search for Honda's recommended maintenance schedule for your year and model.
Hello! There's a super small amount of wiggle after i put in the new oem Honda pcv valve. The bolt is already bottomed out. I dont want to over tighten it and break the bolt. Can i just leave it like that? Any suggestion will help thanks!
Hmmm, that's a tough one without being able to touch it. Not sure the bolt should ever bottom out and it does not need to be very tight. Are you sure you didn't cross thread the bolt when you put it back in?
And based on the design, that wiggle doesn't matter. The 2 o-rings create a vacuum chamber in the middle. The wiggle is rotational which doesn't change the function of those o-rings. Now, if it was loose laterally then the o-ring would slide out of position and create a leak and that would be a problem.

It was just a local parts store at the time, since bought out by Federated. It was a genuine part in a Honda box. Sorry, I don't have the part number. You can look it up online at most parts stores sites; yours might be different from mine anyway.

It is an awesome car. The day I bought the car I was driving it home with my girlfriend. We were on a windy 2-lane road with a tractor-trailer in front of us. I put the pedal to the metal, as they say, and the car took off like a rocket. We were both quite surprised. It is next to impossible to get a V6 in a small car these days. I can not stand those whiny 4 cylinders with laggy turbos.
Wow, that should not happen. People usually use a tool called an EasyOut, which is like a reversed drill bit. There are lots of videos on TH-cam about how to do this. Search for "broken bolt removal"
Always a good idea to rub some clean oil on the o-rings.

What did the plugs look like that brought you to the conclusion it was indeed the PCV valve that was causing your car to burn oil?

The 4cyl pvc valve has crush washer and has a torque spec of 33 ft pounds

You'll have to search for "P2279" and you car year/make/model and look for some trouble-shooting ideas. I have no experience with this code.

Maybe the torque spec was 35 inch pounds. That would make more sense than foot pounds.

According to the factory service manual, it’s 8.7ft-lb. 16ft-lb is WAYYYY too much for a 6mm bolt.
