I use neon since i don't have the homwrecker but i often spycheck the area and/or kill the spy first before removing the sapper.
I would like to use homewrecker more but the powerjack is just too got dam fast
I personally equip the Homewrecker as my good friend mains Engie, and Im neither experienced enough to use the Powerjack nor play independently enough to make full use of the Back Scratcher
A Spy called my Strange Homewrecker "literally Hitler" once and I don't think I've ever removed it since.
The 1k hours engineer can deal with the spies themselves I have to protect the 1 hour baby

Definitely a good message. However, whenever I'm feeling generous and go Pybro, Spies almost NEVER stick around. They'll sap the sentry and book it, probably because they KNOW they'd get a fresh serving of W+M1 otherwise.

Doesn't a direct pipe do 100 damage with no fall of and that was just gonna do splash damage which does, 22-64 damage and I'm fairly sure that it had more health then that. Either way he was a hero

One time, I was turtling in 2fort's Intel room when a friendly f2p pyro came down with a homewrecker. You'd think that f2ps are not very knowledgeable about the game and different playstyles, but this guy knew what he was doing. He helped with spychecking and defending my nest. But some trytard from our team noticed that he wasn't on the front lines, and called to vote kick him claiming he was AFK over voice chat, and his vote passed. A Pybro was kicked from a Casual 2fort server for deciding to lend a hand to his friendly Engineer.

This reminds me of something that happened in TF2 a couple of days ago. There was a pybro fiercely guarding the intelligence and the engi nest in there, and he kept airblasting me out when he melted my spycicle. So I called him the spy using X-2 and said in voice chat "Aha! YOU were the spy the whole time!" He proceeded to spaz out his screen and use a bind that made him explode. It made me laugh so much.
And no, I did not take advantage of his death. I was too busy laughing to do anything except hit the kill bind (and of course, laugh)

Honestly this feels like a given, I haven't encountered a single pyro in my whole career who has only homewrecked the sapper and didn't help go for the spy. I appreciate the video though Dane, the awareness (or reminder) is nice, but, I don't really know anyone who didn't know this besides the guy who's had the game for 3 hours.
i honestly don't think dane plays with any really good pyros as in their video about level twos vs level threes, dane didn't mention the downside of pyro reflecting the sentry's rockets as a downside of a level three; in the comments dane said that they never really see a pyro do that so ya know??
I haven't met any pyros or teammates who want to help me other than other engies, who have the exact same loadout as me: rescue ranger, wrangler, and wrench
More than once, the engies on my team have been stabbed and his buildings sapped before I can kill the spy. That's where the homewrecker comes into play. Kill the spy, then destroy the sappers.

I'm usually a more aggressive pyro, favoring the stock flame thrower, reserve shooter/scorch/flare/detonator (depends on if another pyro is causing issues, heavy is being annoying, or if I need to pull off some jumps), and the powerjack. However if I see a spy continues to cause problems I will temporarily switch to stock + reserve shooter + homewrecker and play defensively until the spy changes classes. I'll try to help if soldiers are causing problems, but I try to confront them long before they reach our sentries to begin with. I prefer putting the other team on the defensive. As for reflecting sentry rockets, maybe I'm not very good at all the timing, but I end up dying from the bullets before the rockets get close enough to reflect lol. I'm probably doing something wrong, but the only sentry reflects I get are from engineers with the wrangler who don't understand how easy the rockets are to reflect at a distance lol.

I dunno, strange part for sappers removed is pretty expensive.
Honestly, my preferred method is to remove the sapper as I run past(because it takes one hit, and walking up will usually get the spy off the sentry and running for his life), then do a quick burn, airblast, and shot from my reserve shooter. 9 times out of 10 this will either kill the spy outright, or force him to stay away long enough that he might as well have died.
I've done this many times, and I especially like using this strategy against experienced spies. They rarely see it coming. Usually I just end up using the NA or the homewrecker on buildings when the engi is unable to remove the sappers... because they are temporarily dead. :(

Oh this hilarious thing happened when I was on upward payload. After B was capped, I saw three Level 3 Sentries (and Dispensers, and teleporters next to said Dispensers asking for free telefrags) BLU had just outside RED's old Spawn door with an Engineer and three homewrecker Pyros. I ran around sapping everything like mad while the Engineer (think he might have been new, his casual level was low, he had no hat, and he later complained in chat that it wasn't fair he couldn't remove the sappers faster than I placed it and that it was fundamentally unfair that one Spy could beat 4 players) and the pyros kept trying to remove the sappers. I literally ran around in circles so that every time a building was de-sapped, another could be placed. Since I had no cooldown and was sapping 9 buildings, they predictably lost everything even without the help of the RED Soldier who I was hoping would shoot the Engineer, or even use his shovel he had equipped while he was staring at me. After the buildigns were destroyed, one pyro switched to the flamethrower, lit me on fire, air blasted me back to the "RED Soldier" (I just noticed 1 Heavy and 1 Pyro were our only power classes and we didn't even have a Soldier) who backstabbed me with his Kunai.
Not sure why all the Engineers built so close together (at least they weren't _literally_ next to each other so there was some protection against splash damage). I'm not sure why one of the two missing Engineers went to the frontlines to play a slow Scout (the other was dead so he has an excuse). I'm not sure why the BLU spy waited half a minute to backstab me. I perfectly understand the BLU pyros thinking (incorrectly) the first thing to do was removing the sappers.
I'm also not sure how this BLU team capped B considering no less than three times we pushed all the way to BLU spawn and started putting stickies on the spawn door. The third time they broke the hold we had on their spawn, our three Engineers reestablished control over the B region (usually BLU's new holding zone), and the three BLU ex-Engineers (they swapped to Heavies, Demomen, and Snipers after I got rid of their stuff), became an Engineer, Pyro, and Demoman turtling the BLU spawn. The other 9 BLU players had a descent team composition, but I think we were just the better shots since they never dislodged us from the "passive hold" area of B, although they did manage to sap and destroy our forward placement a few times.

Dear Uncle Dane,
I get it, sincerely. Focusing on sappers is only a good way for the buildings to get destroyed. However, a home wrecker or neon (word I can't spell) are essential to the class. If the engie's been back stabbed or killed in any way, we need a form of sapper removal to properly doing our job of keeping the French fries away from that sentreh. Now, if a pybro is confident enough, he can go after spies using the Powerjack, but there's no guarantee he'll get anywhere.

but as long as you are around an Engineer and a Spy comes and saps the sentry, the Pybro can try to stop the Spy from sapping while the Engineer attacks the Spy with his wrench, right?

I think he's pointing out many Pybros have their heart in the right place, but even the Homewreker can't outrace a spy spam sapping with no cooldown. Killing the Spy is the first priority, or at least force him to flee and cloak (since there is a delay between uncloaking and being able to use your weapons)
When I'm playing engy and I get the good fortune of having a pybro at my back I'm always super thankful because it basically removes spies from my worries and focus on the doin my job! Thanks to you guys and gals out there hard at work!

Heheh. Us stock spy mains always try to Butterknife people. Really, you should try it out unless you are forever cursed by Gabe to face stab the most gullible of razorback snipers who crit you.
Finally someone other than me said it, there is practically no reason to equip homewrecker, but personally, even when the engineer is dead its practically not worth it considering how low on health the sentry will be at once yu remove the said sapper, and 90% of the time it'll go down BEFORE engineer even gets to respawn
In comp but in pubs the homewrecker is mvp, because it turns a bad engie into a quite useful one
+TeemoTheScientist Exactly. Sure, you unsapped it while I was dead - thanks! But I still have 15 seconds left before I respawn... and even the most godly Pybro can't heal my 50-health sentry gun. I'd even go so far as to say that I'd prefer Pyros to run the Powerjack over the Homewrecker if it means you can run around killing Spies more efficiently.
Now I'm trying to think how to make Homewrecker Pyroes into their own niche. A Primary that looks like an oversized blowtorch/arc-welder, whose secondary fire does no push back but will repaire a building for 25HP in melee range?
Maybe a secondary? Better deflect projectiles and ubers rather than healing the sentry
Uncle Dane Its also worth to mention that swapping to homewrecker with a script in spawn to remove sappers if spy does saps when you respawn, it is worth it to try and go for an unsap

My standard Pybro loadout is:
Flamethrower
Scorch Shot
Homewrecker
The Pybro's job doesn't stop at killing Spies. A good Pybro is also pushing Ubers away, reflecting spam, and making long-range enemies think twice before they start pushing.
A trusty ol' Flamethrower gets the job done. It has the cheapest airblast cost, meaning I can reflect more rockets, airblast more Heavies, and generally do my job better. The Degreaser is nice for those clutch Homewrecker removals, but like you said, any Engie worth his salt is usually on it.
The Scorch Shot gives me even more area control, letting me easily check for Spies from afar, ignite Snipers who might have a sightline, and generally be a nuisance.
I tend to use the Homewrecker when I see unattended buildings get sapped, such as when the Engineer gets killed by the Spy, the Engineer is too far away, or any other situation where I am the only one there to remove the sapper. Then, I kill the Spy, because everyone loves a dead Spy. While other melees are usually a better option, there are moments where having the Homewrecker means the difference between a building staying up and going down, and that can determine the outcome of the game. If I'm devoted to defending my Engie and his nest, I'd rather have that option than a bit of extra movespeed or health pack value.
Ehh with the latest update the switch speed increase isn't even noticeable imo. The degreaser is basically a straight downgrade of stock right now (not by much, but there's no real point in using it). Honestly I think stock is just all around the best flamethrower right now. The phlog is still the weakest flamethrower (and always will be, so long as airblasting isn't an option), and the backburner is almost just as bad (airblasts are so expensive that you're better off not using them except in emergancies, carry the manmelter if you really want to use the backburner so you can still extinguish teammates, otherwise you're just being a jerk lol).
I don't know why but the Scorch Shot feels easier to aim with and hit with than the flare. I feel like I land my combos better with it (and honestly you can do close to the same amount of damage if you time the scorch right, I love that double hit it can do). Really though, all of the pyro's secondaries are pretty solid, they're all useful in their own right. Stock is nice in general situations (though the RS does a really good job in these too). Pyros that can actually land their flare shots do sick amounts of damage (though I have an easier time killing heavies with the RS than the flare, does anyone else have that experience?). The Scorch Shot is great for mobility and dealing damage, and Scorch jumping is just so much fun lol. I only use the detonator if I need to make really high/far jumps, or if enemies are grouped tightly together for some reason.
I almost always run powerjack, but I only stay by the engineers if I feel they need me. Otherwise I'm busy flanking the enemy (killing spies in the process since I take the same routes as pyro that I do as a spy) and trying to be a nuisance to the enemy. And I resent that, I don't love a dead spy, at least, not when I'm the dead spy :P lol. I typically have my offensive set in slot A, and my defensive set in slot B so I only ever have to switch secondary weapons (or to the NH in water maps because pyro shark lol).
I disagree on the switch speed difference. I have a hard time readjusting to the normal flamethrower after using the degreaser for a long while.

Recent patches made literally less than a second difference. You used to be spot on, but look at the math for it now. IIRC it's only about .1 seconds faster. I'm able to effectively pull off all the same stuff with stock that I could with the degreaser, including shooting a flare, then immediately switching to the flamethrower to reflect a rocket/flare/etc.

Does TH-cam's subtitle feature work, or do they translate poorly? I am aware that even English subtitles don't translate well, because they don't always pick up on what is being said. Either that, or surround yourself with English speakers, which shouldn't be too hard, and keep getting better at speaking another language. Hope that helps. :) Au revoir.
The YT subtitle system don't work very well, and the translation part... Well, this is basicly crap ! Yhea speaking and hearing english help a lot but sometimes there is words that we totally don't know, or this kind of things.

Neon is the best pick for ctf_sawmill pybros. You crit everyone in the intel room and can remove sappers.
the anihilator is way more situational: he need either pissmen or milk carring scout on your team (of a reliable water source for the enemy to walk into) and 2 hit for sapper removal instead of one; it is more useful for a "area lockdown" kind of playstyle more than a defensive-teamates one
But... kitchenmaiden... there's no water in the intel room. That weapon is only good if there's even a millimeter of water to make use of. None of which is, again, in the intel room of ctf_2fort.
The shallow water in ctf_sawmill's intel room does count for the Neon, actually.

I use the home wrecker whenever I'm doing defensive pyro, especially on ctf. You never know when the engi will get backstabbed and you can help save the nest after killing the spy.
As a fellow defense pyro in CTF maps, I wholeheartedly agree. Although if our team doesn't have any engies defending, I'd rather just equip the axtinguisher.

Nah but really are there actually "pybros" that just smack the sapper off? I always flame around, fire off the scorch shot just in case of really shitty mojo, if I find a spy, it's more brain dead than the gibuses on my team. Then if the sapper isnt already gone, i smack it with the homewrecker, then go back to reflecting shitloads of spam.

I only go pyro if there's at least 2 engies on my team, because that means the other team will likely have spies. as such, I always have my Homewrecker equipped. Gotta protect those Gibus Engies Somehow, after all.
I just keep it equipped because the fire axe is anything but useful
I like pyro in a more offensive setting so the powerjack is a must for me. On maps like 2fort though, the neon annihilator is fun though. Nothing like forcing a soldier to switch to his shotgun, even better if he's wearing gunboats, they usually just leave after a rocket to the face lol.

It's a lot of fun. I don't use it too often, but I do love watching players jump in the water after being set on fire, then panicking when they realize that I have the neon annihilator and that the whole goal was to make them jump in the water lol.

well , the homewrecker is still pretty good for pybros , one time I saw an engie get back stabbed and have his buildings sapped , I chased the spy out and just before the sentry went down I removed the sapper .
I’ve recently tried being a Pyrbro, the way I do it is to be more like a bodyguard I check every teammate that comes near & cook every spy who attempts to hurt the nest. Makes it better that one of my best friends mains Engi so we combo well :)

The neon annihilator used to be better than you think. Before Valve fixed the croissant spies, the NA made identifying DR spies much easier since the body would float in the air so you could see the head (or lack thereof) faster.
I like to use it if there's water on the map and not much engis. Mine's strange and pro ks.
Fact:
Scorch shot is the flaregun of choice. Do not use the flare gun ffs.
Scorch does knockback.
scorch shot also removes stickies and detonates
+Terrl Nuki (Amphiseum's Maid) and double donk.
Scorch shot is a secondary for people that can't aim with the flare gun

Spies literally never stick around normally, ESPECIALLY if they know there's a Pybro there. They normally either sap the sentry and try to backstab the engie, backstab the engie and die to the sentry, get both and die to the Homewrecker pybro, or just sap and invisibly escape.
If I am using the powerjack i feel so guilty when my engie's sentry is being sapped, I just look at it like ' I wish I could of helped....sorry '

Honestly I've never seen pyros only remove sappers. When I play spy I always get burnt to a crisp, then see my sapper get destroyed. Sometimes I can trickstab the pyro (shame on them for not airblasting me lol) and every now and then I get a lucky shot with the ambassador (of course when I get lucky enough to do that, I'm always still in range of the sentry somehow... lol).
That pybro at the last scene must've been proud of himself of defending your sentry

Dane I’ve dedicated my gameplay to be a support/defense player, Maining Pybro, Engie, and Medic. I did this because hearing someone appreciate and thank me for what I’ve done and then continue to enjoy the game because of that warms my heart. I never truly felt like I was getting support from people, so I support everyone in game because it makes me feel happier, but more importantly makes everyone else happy. That’s what I strive for.
The homewrecker was one of my first weapons I've gotten in the game and from that moment on I was a pybro... Will never forget that day.

Or, let the engie handle the sapper and just kill the spy... Or airblast the spy (usually scares them off) and remove the sapper if the engie is dead.
As a mix of both Pyro and Pybro, we ALSO thank you for helping us defend us from the enemy team, mainly due to the Payload or Control Point because we struggle getting those. Plus, Spy-Checking is another thing of appreciation towards you Engineer-Mains. :)
As a pyro main i can only say that, i have never been more happy !
