I agree that they should move the energy ball to M1, but instead of getting rid of the taser, give it the old AoE attack with the current firing speed, but reduce the damage to 1, to make it purely for spychecking.
Thank you for explaining this mysterious energy ball for us non-engie players, but all I REALLY have to say is that this video's intro was amazing on so many levels
I love how there isn't even a kill icon for the orb. It's almost like Valve didn't even consider the fact that people would try and kill people with it.
He's saying it's 'Multi-Damage on the original target and others in it's path' is WAY better than the Bison....god why did the Bison get nerfed into the ground!?
@@beefsteak195 It has a few other uses. If you use it on a building, the engineer cannot manually destroy it to build a new one, so if you use it on an abandoned mini sentry somewhere, the engineer is now too far to remove the sapper from it, and unable to lay a new one for a good 20 seconds or so. Removing an RTRmid downgrade or deconstruction will require the sentry to replay the upgrade/building animation before it can fire, meaning you get a little bit longer before it starts shooting again. Once an RTR even begins a downgrade it will also strip away any upgrade progress that was on the building. Once an RTR begins final deconstruction, it immediately empties a dispenser of all stored metal.

The primary fire taser should GIVE FIVE metal when you damage a player with it. An engineer hitting with the taser is going to be very vulnerable, and combined with the salvation of another energy ball would allow some tense, complex, and desperate interactions trying to close range and recover metal to 65.
Another good informative video, I didn’t really know how to use the Short-circuit well to its fullest potential. Looks like I can give it another chance.
Tbh I miss the old short circuit so much. I could completely own a defensive area until a hit scan class came in to deal with the sentry or two spies ganged up on me. Maybe I'm just a bad engi. That could be a thing too, but the point is I miss the old one.
11:48 it could be realy fun to have a duel where both players have 1 hp and inf metal and can fly and just blasting energy charges at each other untill someone gets hit and loses the duel
unless you're an aim genius the widowmaker and short circuit will make you lose a shitton of metal especially since lone engineers are the target of many scouts and spies who have really thin hitboxes. and if you're playing with gunslinger you probably want to have at the bare minimum 150 metal at almost all times so you can place another mini down whenever your first goes down
The Short Circuit has probably been one of the most changed weapon in the entire game. In total, it has been changed at least 7 times since it was first introduced from it being not so good to really good to good but annoying and now somewhat balanced. I think after watching this video, I’ll use this weapon much more as it has the potential to be a great weapon however I feel like it needs some more changes for it to be in a good spot and not be changed anymore. I feel like they could make the primary fire actually useful by making it gives health on hit and for the Alt-Fire projectile, they could make it so it takes 50 metal to fire the projectile so you can fire 4 shots instead of 3 and maybe make the projectile travel further and deal more damage and I think with these changes, people will start using this potentially great weapon!
9:32 Can I point out that uncle dane just jumps over his mini sentry's line of fire, knowing the exact timing of when the sentry shoots, along with knowing the direction of it, whilst in a 1v1? Although, he is just in a server with one of his friends so he could focus more on that.
An idea to revamp the Short Circuit primary fire: from how I see it, Valve kept the current primary fire of the Short Circuit to make it a small, short range pistol of sorts. This can be easily used as a falloff option when running out of Shotgun ammo and you are face to face with a somewhat low-health enemy. However, the base damage is simply too underwhelming to be really viable, as a Wrench could do the job more efficiently. Since the overall theme of the Engineer's weapons relies on top-notch gimmicks to cripple the enemy or support your own team or yourself, this is the only class with lots of buff or debuff tools other than "more or less damage" types (Soldier only has Cow Mangler for disabling sentries, Scout has Boston Basher to apply bleeding and Mad Milk for health on hit, Sniper has Jarate for mini-crits on hit, but the Engineer has the Pomson to reduce Uber and Cloak on hit, the Southern Hospitality for bleeding on hit, the Rescue Ranger for repair on hit and long range building teleportation, the Eureka Effect to teleport, ...). Those weapons do something definitely more science-fiction related than throwing a jar of piss at enemies, taking more damage for how embarrassing it is. The Short Circuit fits the former much better now, and that's why its primary fire should receive a few gimmicks on its own. The first one, since it's electric based, could be a slow down on hit effect for the primary fire only, the effect increasing for continued hits over time, up to 1 second for 70 % speed. That way, it rewards hitting escaping enemies, such as Spies cloaking or Scouts running. The other effect, up-to-debate, is a damage ramp up on hit, up to 3 times the base damage after 1 second of constant hits. By doing so, with a base damage of 10, this makes the Short Circuit reach 30 dmg per hit after 1 second, dealing more damage than the stock Pistol but not as great as a Shotgun. This rewards players for aiming close range enemies that are fleeing your sentry or when you run out of Shotgun ammo and needs more damage up-close. It's not overpowered since you cannot shoot at medium ranges, meaning this weapon's primary fire is designed for close quarters fights. Coupled with the Rescue Ranger, you can use the ranger for longer shots and repairs while the Short Circuit provides some form of defense up-close, being removing projectiles or slowing down and damaging the approaching enemy further. It still costs metal so it doesn't make this secondary a primary weapon, and is best used to finish off enemies or catch Spies and Scouts more effectively. It can also be used after firing a ball to start crippling down enemy Soldiers without the need to switch weapons, especially when they are on low-health, but not on a buffed up Soldier (full health, overheal, etc), and then switch to your Shotgun when other enemies (Pyros, Heavies) approach. The Engineer is a really smart guy, and he figures out ways to make his enemies' life the worst possible for the benefit of his own and his team's.
This is an amazing idea, wish valve would listen. For the heck of it, maybe add just a little more base damage to let's say 15 damage plus ramp up equalling to 45 damage for 1 second of constant damage. That makes viable and isn't overpowered. Also add a larger hit radius so that cloaked spies could be hit more effectively
The slowdown-taser sounds interesting, stun effect fits the electric theme and encourages teammates to assist. Maybe could also blast stickybombs without needing accurate aim, from just outside blast range?
@Charlie Botterell I just tried the bison out today, it actually still works pretty well IMHO, not as well as during tough break, but well enough for me.
@Charlie Botterell True, but it's fun to use and good for use with weapons such as the Direct Hit and Airstrike that either have lots of downtime or require considerable skill to use
I'm still waiting for a strange short circuit, Would likely be kills and projectiles destroyed also the primary fire should probably have it's own ammo if they decide to keep it.
I was gonna say you can clearly see the energy balls destroying eachother, but it seems that while the energy balls target eachother, they don't actually destroy eachother, as you can see the energy balls firing multiple times at eachother before colliding and dissipating.
The primary fire of the Short Circuit is like a mini short ranged pistol, in case you don't have any shotgun bullets ready and need to finish off or defend yourself, more so if you lack the 65 metal required to fire a ball, or you don't want to waste what remaining metal on one for a single enemy. It has the same rate of fire, but to not be too good, it reduces the damage per "shot", so a pistol is still viable for those situations. Also, for the same amount of metal, you can deal more damage on the course of a little more time, as 10 damage * 13 shots of 5 metal each (for a total of 65 metal) = 130 damage, compared to 15+. So, the way I see it, it's both a pistol and a projectile eraser, and aiming skills + fast, good decision making = one of the best all around secondary weapon for Engineer.
You can reflect the short circuit. You can reflect the short circuit. You can reflect the short circuit- Yes. I absolutely love this information. Even if I suck at airblasting, I absolutely love turning my enemies weapons against them, and this is absolutely perfect.
6:25 I’d like to point out that, even though it is cheaper to heal buildings with your wrench, you might not be close enough to your sentry to heal it (the higher metal cost is justified by the weapon’s range).
I personally use the Short Circuit the most. 1. I use the Eureka Effect most of the time 2. I use the Panic Attack 3. I prefer being aggressive after setting up my buildings 4. I can't use the Wrangler properly to save my life

This made me use the short circuit and the strats you talked about in this video and I'm in love. Never thought this would be fun but i'm so glad i found out.
W O A H What if they made Engie ambidextrous so that he could use the shotgun in his left hand as primary fire and the short circuit as his right arm as secondary fire?! HAS SCIENCE GONE TOO FAR?!
Kra Z Kapin then the Engineer would probably need some special primary weapon that doesn't need to be reloaded after each shot unlike a pump-action shotgun. I'm honestly looking up for that. :)
Kra Z Kapin could be an option, but since Engineer seems to be the shotgun specialist, an autoreloading shotgun like XM1014 from Counter-Strike (but with a much doper design that would fit the TF2 style) would probably fit him better. Now that I'm thinking about it, the Widowmaker could be reworked for that because it reloads itself in fact. But as a downside for not holding the gun in both arms it could have a wider pellet spread or much slower fire rate to compensate for the added firepower from the Pistol or the Short Circuit.
I thought of a similar thing once: upon taunting while hauling a building Engi throws their packed building straight forward after about 1-1.5 seconds of delay. The building is then destroyed but it can taunt kill someone. :D
Nice video Dane, didn’t think much about the DM side of the short circuit when the changes first rolled out. That’s a nice piece of insight there. Also 10:18 Theoretical Spy spotted. Fun guy.
Moo? I’ve been trying to add you, but you have too many friends, so I’m forever unable to befriend you. I am a big fan of yours, though, so I can at least support you!
Bronzewarrior 65 is just enough to be annoying but little enough not to destroy your metal capabilities If it was 50 that means that you have 150 left which is enough to do whatever you want with 135 left is just enough to A) build a turret B) build a dispenser C) build 2 teles D) use the windowmaker or continue using the short circuit E) sufficiently repair/refill a building
By the way, I think it's fair to prevent enemies from explosives jumping with it. It adds some more versatility and functionality to the weapon, and a way to humiliate those annoying soldiers and demomen.
I GOT IT. The music you used in beginning of your video was about a blue moon (FNV). And then you start speaking about blue moon update. That's so cool
I was literally singing "Blue Moon" along with the intro with a friend who didn't know the song and thought I was insane and when you opened up talking about the Blue Moon update we both lost our shit. So thank you for that.
I just realized the song is the beginning is Blue Moon, which is the name of the update in which these changes happened. That's the level of quality you come to expect from this channel.

You expected an Engineer, but it was me, SPY!
Non-Potato UNDEL DACE?!?!?!
I was gonna say you can clearly see the energy balls destroying eachother, but it seems that while the energy balls target eachother, they don't actually destroy eachother, as you can see the energy balls firing multiple times at eachother before colliding and dissipating.

Also a great joke, because you know, blue moon update.
It sounded so familiar and so off... I thought it was a remix of Pokemon route theme at first.

what about this delicious fallout nv music

You can reflect the short circuit-
Yes. I absolutely love this information. Even if I suck at airblasting, I absolutely love turning my enemies weapons against them, and this is absolutely perfect.
Noob! You underestimate the power of Short Circuit!

6:25 I’d like to point out that, even though it is cheaper to heal buildings with your wrench, you might not be close enough to your sentry to heal it (the higher metal cost is justified by the weapon’s range).

I personally use the Short Circuit the most.
1. I use the Eureka Effect most of the time
2. I use the Panic Attack
3. I prefer being aggressive after setting up my buildings
4. I can't use the Wrangler properly to save my life
I miss "that'll do" intro :(

that MDE intro
1: Dane, you're my favorite uncle.
2: I think I can understand the procrastination, but I'm not sure. I like to procrastinate a whole lot, but I don't have anyone waiting.
3: I really like your schedule. Videos aren't so close together that I think, "Ehh, it's Dane, I'll watch it later," but it isn't so far apart that I stop caring. For example, while I love Ross Scott's Freeman's Mind, it just takes so long between episodes that I lose interest.
4: Whatever you do, Dane, I'll like it. Don't stop doin' you, man.
5: I know you probably don't care, but hey, I might as well write this in case it inspires you or some romantic crap. If you hate this comment and it makes you feel awful, sorry.
0.5: This is about the stuff at the very beginning.
Quality over quantity.
This made me use the short circuit and the strats you talked about in this video and I'm in love. Never thought this would be fun but i'm so glad i found out.

What if they made Engie ambidextrous so that he could use the shotgun in his left hand as primary fire and the short circuit as his right arm as secondary fire?!
HAS SCIENCE GONE TOO FAR?!
Kra Z Kapin then the Engineer would probably need some special primary weapon that doesn't need to be reloaded after each shot unlike a pump-action shotgun. I'm honestly looking up for that. :)
Like the Sniper's SMG but primary?
Kra Z Kapin could be an option, but since Engineer seems to be the shotgun specialist, an autoreloading shotgun like XM1014 from Counter-Strike (but with a much doper design that would fit the TF2 style) would probably fit him better.
Now that I'm thinking about it, the Widowmaker could be reworked for that because it reloads itself in fact. But as a downside for not holding the gun in both arms it could have a wider pellet spread or much slower fire rate to compensate for the added firepower from the Pistol or the Short Circuit.
The Defrenestruction PDA
I thought of a similar thing once: upon taunting while hauling a building Engi throws their packed building straight forward after about 1-1.5 seconds of delay. The building is then destroyed but it can taunt kill someone. :D
i love this channel. even videos about 1 single weapon can have so many good jokes and bits in it. and alot of info and stragys. i love you
Nice video Dane, didn’t think much about the DM side of the short circuit when the changes first rolled out. That’s a nice piece of insight there.
Also 10:18 Theoretical Spy spotted. Fun guy.

FearlessDreamer WHAT AN ENEMY STAND USER HOW COULD IT BE THIS STRONG NOBODY IS NEAR
Narancia Ghirga It must be an automatic SŪTANDO!!!
ITS THE ENEMY STAND
They should really lower the metal cost to 50, it's a nicer number for engineers and would make the weapon more viable.
I'd think that 65 metal per energy ball is completely fine. Plus, you can use your head more.
I disagree, 65 metal is just a pain, it'll make defensive play with it terrible.
Bronzewarrior 65 is just enough to be annoying but little enough not to destroy your metal capabilities
If it was 50 that means that you have 150 left which is enough to do whatever you want with
135 left is just enough to
A) build a turret
B) build a dispenser
C) build 2 teles
D) use the windowmaker or continue using the short circuit
E) sufficiently repair/refill a building
Spending 65 metal on ONE!!?? energy ball is kinda dumb. I say 50.
I say 55.
2:32 This pun is underrated

Why wasn’t that rocket glowing? I’ve never seen that before.

I just realized the song is the beginning is Blue Moon, which is the name of the update in which these changes happened. That's the level of quality you come to expect from this channel.
Opening song is Carpenter Brut - Le Perv
Thanks
Uncle Dane has a very gud taste in music

so you are saying that this weapon encourages mindgames? amazing! can't wait to get this weapon and use it in a pub that I am not allowed to communicate in any way (not even medic calls) in!
I didn't know you like Minecraft.
Everyone does, no need to hide it anymore.
holy shit, I was the person he killed at 3:00 I was literally thinking, "fuck, someone did that to me a while back"
the carpenter brut in the intro was such a welcome change
