@@JarrodsTech Ha, just left a comment in a recent vid about no Gigabytye/Aorus reviews this year! I find no one caring about Aorus surprising, in Oz at least. The new 1.4 bios update increases the tgp from 125watt to 130 watt. Also the thermals are excellent on the new bios update. With the boost disabled, im getting 50-70 C temps during light task and low 80s to 90s during heavy gaming. Mux switch boost frames about 10-15% depending on the game. The dell g15 is essentially an alienware R5 with 3060 and ryzen 5800 CPU in a plastic build in a smaller price (last month went on sale for 1100 usd including tax). The Alienware logo was even imprinted on the motherboard. High performance mode or "G" mode even boosts frame rates or can sort of "overclock" the fans to prioritize cooling depending on your settings in the alienware control center. I own the 165hz version and was very happy.
I bought it too, fantastic laptop, do we need to do anything in the new bios update to make the thermals better? Not sure how a software update can affect the thermals but im all ears
@@phxhawke it says in the update notes "Fixes & Enhancements - Updated the Thermal Algorithm to reduce the system temperature and fan noise. - Enhanced the Dynamic Boost feature to support 15 W in G Mode to improve the performance of the graphics card". I'm not sure though why it says 125 watts in the nvidia settings
I got mine with a 165Hz screen when I got back around the end of May. If they make it available, it is definitely worth picking up. Not sure what route Jarrod takes for his CP2077 benchmark, but his RT: Ultra numbers were very close to mine when I had Claire drive me to the garage at the end of the last race. I could get between 15-17 fps at the lowest, the highest was about the same. Swapping out the RAM made my lowest 30fps with RT: Ultra settings and the highest around 40-45 fps. Please note, I got these numbers with Optimus enabled as 1. The mux switch BIOS was not available at the time, and 2. Even though HDMI and Display Port hook up directly to the 3060, it did not occur to me to hook it up to a tv to test with.
The new G15 special edition (which was on sale for about 14 hundred) has a 360hz screen and the 3060 Geforce in it I really like it and I'm glad I waited for this to come out! I'm happy you brought my attention to this laptop and plan to make youtube videos in the future!
In Philippines, I spotted another huge problem with the dell G15, when I contacted the seller of the laptop, they increased its price by $160 (8,000 Php)
That’s an obvious answer but in countries like mine their lower midrange to upper budget price in other countries are basically higher midrange while stuff like the 5 pro are flagship s instead of midrange
Got my Asus Zephyrus S17 yesterday, RTX 3080 1440p screen, advanced optimus. I order it after watching your review. it's replacing an MSI GE75 Raider 8SG (i7-8750H, RTX 2080).
We had the G15 with R5 and RTX 3050 for testing and it had the same 120Hz display (big response time) and the same RAM. I'd like to add that for this laptop they opted for a reversed motherboard. It has quick acces to RAM, storage and WI-FI but if you want to replace the cooling paste you'll need to remove the motherboard (it can be tricky, be sure to have someone with experience). Overall, it's a decent laptop for the price - if it had a better display it would have been one of the best (in this category)
I got a Dell G15 with a core i7, 1660Ti, 16GB DDR4 dual channel, 60Hz screen, and a 512GB m.2 ssd back in 2019 I have ran through several issues with it, but it can work for most things. The main issue that I have is that there will be times that the A key will start drifting like a controller, so my character would go to the left throughout several sessions (worse when I play Valorant). I so hope that this laptop works better in the longterm than the older G15
It's ALARMING these tech sites are slamming budget laptops for offering budget parts. That often includes 4gb vram gpus. When in the market for such a laptop, you already understand you cannot run AAA games in ULTRA settings. That's the compromise. Saying a 3050 or AMD equivalent 4GB laptop gpu are bad / not worth considering is folly. If you want more performance you need to pony up or not buy a budget laptop. WANT is the active word. We all want more. Sadly our budgets don't allow it. If you're pushing for companies to give away these laptops for 500 bucks, I'd agree, but dream on. The reality is that's probably what they should be priced at. That's a whole other topic.
Thanks for your review, Dell start selling it in Brazil with the panel 165hz and total black Coolor, is the same Ryzen and 3060 but with the good panel and i hope good memory too, i bought one today
Yea I'm starting to think he intentionally got the 120 Hz screen for this kind of titles. This laptop literally has no considerable cons if you get the 165 Hz panel In my opinion it should be in the same tier of Legion 5 (great build, high performance, good thermals after new bios, color-accurate screen, Mux switch, affordable price)
@@kazumayamagishi7436 As I replied to the other person above, the 120Hz screen may have been the only version available for him to purchase at the time to review the unit. When I purchased mine at the end of May the US Dell store didn't have any 120Hz screens, even on the lower end Ryzen versions of the laptop, which are now taken up by 3050's and only have 120Hz screens. Another thing, the version of the screen available for purchase in other countries may not include the 165Hz screen as an option for purchase. As such the buyer will be stuck with only the dimmer 120Hz screen.
When will the other rx6800m laptops will hit the marcket? Will other brands going make them .Will there prices stay around the price of asus advantage edition 🤔
Probably not... Asus knows how to lower the prices without cutting too many corners. Anything cheaper than Strix in the future has to be a rebranded ODM chassis from either Tong Fang or Clevo, but it will be a long time before the GPU supply reaches those smaller companies.
I saw your review about hp omen 15 and dell g15 I just wanted to ask you. According to you, which is better? Both the laptops have similar stats, so I am confused which one is better. Based on build quality and thermals, which one is better?
As mentioned in the community post a few weeks back, I don't expect to get one for another week or so. Hopefully, a review will be up early - mid Sept. Community post: th-cam.com/users/postUgxQ4GhhFVDmfC38CXB4AaABCQ
I'm liking mine, the fans are much quieter than my last machine, it has the 165Hz panel, which looks great, I got it on sale so it cost only a little too much, and unlike the Legion I was able to get it. Thermals with the bios update seem to be well managed, it is not the G3 or G5 with that silly screen problem. The only issue I've had with it thus far is the Alien software has issues, if you let it go to sleep it will loose the keyboard lighting, requiring reinstalling the Alien software to correct. Wish Dell would fix that (clearly a software issue), but I solved it for now by not letting it sleep.
I just bought this laptop with the 3050Ti and the 120hz screen. Ended up returning it and getting the version with the 3060 and 165hz screen. Huge difference in performance and the screen is way way way better. Only ended up being $206 more, so it is really worth it in my opinion. One game benchmark I did in particular is Chernobylite. On the 3050Ti machine ultra settings, the in game benchmark gets 61fps. With the 3060 and ultra settings, I got 121fps. Do the math. Double the performance for 23% more money.

The slow response time issue with the 120mhz screen: is the ghosting at a “oh yeah I can see a bit of it sometimes” level, or “playing shooters is a blurry, nauseating mess” level?
Awesome I have been waiting for this Laptop, can't wait for the full review 🤩. Then I think for the AMD version having only the 120hz screen option is simply a regional thing, because here in China the AMD version has a 165hz screen option.
I've got a modified G15 5511, and it's (one of) the best laptop that I've used. The specs are an i7-11800H @2.30GHz, 64GB RAM (yes you can do it - 2x32, 3200MHz), PM991a NVME Samsung 1024GB storage, Killer E2600 GBit Ethernet, Integrated (intel) UHD Graphics, and a GeForce RTX 3060. Oh yeah, and it has a 165Hz screen. Don't get the 120Hz. As a side note, the screen does have a noticeable yellow tint when comparing it to other screens, however, you get used to it. You could also calibrate the display to make it less 'yellowy' Is it worth it? Absolutely, I do not regret owning this laptop at all. Yes the 64GB RAM comes in handy, and the CPU is not a letdown at all. I agree with Jarrod too, if you're gaming on this, please for the love of God, plug it in. You'll just get worse performance for much worse battery life if you don't.
I just bought it :'( But to be honest I will be mostly gaming in an external monitor so screen won't be an issue for me. And all "budget" gaming laptops come with slower memory so I already knew I had to upgrade to get the most our of it. I think it's a great gaming laptop for my needs :)
bought this on 4th of july sale and got the 165hz 3ms + 5800h/3060 and 16gb ram for just $1200 (california tax or it was on sale for $1049) performance and screen is great
"I'm sure its not Dell making AMD look bad......" - the company that Intel called their best friend? HAH! Here in Singapore they list the Ryzen models as the "G15" but the 11th gen intel models as "the new G15". Hmmmmmmmmm
From where I come from, there's only a RTX3050 version with tdp 80W, it comes with a Ryzen 5 5600H, converted to US dollars it cost 962.90 dollars, in my country currency it cost 4049.00, is it even worth it
On dell website it says "15.6-inch, FHD, 1920 x 1080, 165 Hz, anti-glare, non-touch, 100% sRGB, 300 nits, wide-viewing angle (WVA)" Can someone confirm if the 165 does truly have 100% SRGB? Because there isn't a big difference in $$ between 120 HZ screen and 165 HZ
Please can you recommend a laptop for heavy games and regular programing in the range of $ 3000 usd. I am literally confused with all these trade offs.
i remember buying a 1060 g15 and It was one of the worst gaming experiences I had after like 8 months of use. The thermals in these laptops always seem to run to hot.
I know it is due to supply issues, but It is weird that my cheaper last gen legion 5 have batter memory than newer legion 5 pro which is far more expensive
Also the Amazon link you provided for the laptop does have the 165hz screen and with the 512gb ssd option it only costs 1360$, which is much lower than the legion 5 which costs around 1600$ and the g15 essentially gives the same performance, and cooling is also decent so I'd say this is way better value
1600$? The Legion 5 (3060) starts at 1100$ and is in nearly every region/country the better value --> especially outside the US, because DELL is often not really competetive....
@@marzok9632 and yes Dell does overprice their laptops in most regions as they are incredibly trusted (even tho they have done many questionable things throughout the years) and people will buy even if they are overpriced, the same goes for hp
Idk if you'll even read this, but.. I bought a 5525 last year and ran pretty great, until I started getting BIOS issues. - it went on for so long, I asked for exchange or money back. - I decided to exchange, due to the fact that it was an option to get the 5530... however, I made the mistake of not researching before and I think I made a bad move. the following are the specs: Nvidia RTX4050 6GB @ ddr6 Intel i7 13th gen 13650HX 16GB Ram, 165hz with 1TB m2... and my game starts to lag at some points.. I honestly am OK with maybe having done a bad deal (due to the fact that I had an AMD 7 6800H / RTX 3060 512GB m2 with same panel, because I use it to work mostly), but am kind of surprised an upgrade in the graphics card set me back some.. maybe it's just the game configuration I didn't set up, but I don't think so... If anyone knows what's the deal, please let me know.
I am thinking about upgrading my laptop, My choices are built an apu based 1.desktop without graphic card (5700g) or 2.buy Dell g15 with 3050 and 16gb and processor is 5600h Which one is better choice or should I go for 3. Buy 5600x with 1030ti and upgrade GPU later on. Main focus for me is unity and some light low graphic old aaa title gaming which can even run in my current system.
I know I'm asking for too much and that you've already replied to me for this, but please Jarrod try to get your hands on the HP Victus 16, the RTX 3060 version, because I'm not buying it without your recommendation.
hey, little hope of you reading this after all this time, but are you sure on the cyberpunk tests it wasn't at rt: psycho? just saw a video where you compared 2060 x 3060 on the legion and it always getting around 50 fps there. is there this huge perfomance difference or was something different between both benchmarks?
About the screen, I actually ordered mine from the same website yesterday and it has the 165hz screen (Ryzen 5800h model). Maybe there was a temporary drop in stock?

Hi guys, need some help to decide between 2 laptops: Lenovo Legion 7 slim with Ryzen 5800H or a Dell G15 5510 with i7-10870H? Both are RTX3060. Lenovo is 165hz while Dell is 120hz. Lenovo has 16Gb RAM while Dell is at 32Gb (I'm not really inclined to upgrade). Equal amount of editing work and gaming, not heavy on either.
Hi Jarrod, After watching a bunch of videos(awesome comparisons) from you I've decided to go for a Dell g15 5511. Unfortunately I couldn't get the 5515 with a 165hz screen in my country. I preferred the legion 5 pro, but to go for the 5511 this saved me about €400. 2 questions: Should I upgrade to 2* 16gb dual rank x8 ram or is 2* 8gb single rank X8 enough. As for the SSD should I change the SSD for a Samsung PM9A1 and hope it run gen4 or just a Samsung 980 and run on gen3 speed? (What are the specs from the OEM 1tb SSD in the 5511?) Thanks in advanced.

I bought the same verison 165hz that was in sale for 1100$, when I saw that price I bought it right away although its my first gaming laptop.
@@w9s992 the price was too good to be true at that time and it was the best decision for ne. This is also my first gaming laptop

Haven't seen the NVidia control panel show a new value for the Maximum Graphics Power. It is still at 125W.
@@phxhawke it says in the update notes "Fixes & Enhancements
- Updated the Thermal Algorithm to reduce the system temperature and fan noise.

Watching Jarrod's videos, I learn new metal bands to listen, great taste!

I got a Dell G15 with a core i7, 1660Ti, 16GB DDR4 dual channel, 60Hz screen, and a 512GB m.2 ssd back in 2019
I have ran through several issues with it, but it can work for most things.
I just realized that your JT logo looks like the pi symbol. Cool...
Thanks for your review, Dell start selling it in Brazil with the panel 165hz and total black Coolor, is the same Ryzen and 3060 but with the good panel and i hope good memory too, i bought one today
2 big problems? most people got the 165 hz screen and the RAM issue comes with EVERY LAPTOP at the moment, not sure why the title
I thought i'm the only one who got confused by "BIG" problems. Like dude just fucking get the 165hz screen? The 165hz screen is actually well priced.
Yea I'm starting to think he intentionally got the 120 Hz screen for this kind of titles. This laptop literally has no considerable cons if you get the 165 Hz panel
In my opinion it should be in the same tier of Legion 5 (great build, high performance, good thermals after new bios, color-accurate screen, Mux switch, affordable price)
@@biga1044 The 120Hz screen was probably the only one available for him to purchase at the time.
Historically the number of laptops that have had AMD GPU's has been pretty sparse. I'm assuming it's going to be the same this year.
I saw your review about hp omen 15 and dell g15
I just wanted to ask you. According to you, which is better?
Both the laptops have similar stats, so I am confused which one is better.
Based on build quality and thermals, which one is better?
Whats is problem?
What happened to the victus review? Just wondering.

@@JarrodsTech Thanks for the reply, I always watch your videos, your videos are very generous on information. More power to you!
What is the problem??
Jarrod did an exceptional job on the thumbnail! 😊
Double the performance for 23% more money.
hows your speaker? idk if mine is defective or some shi but mine is literally ass. tinny cuppy ass.
@@rivvy2138 I made some setting changed to the speakers and they sound much better. Not the best though..
Show RAM is an ubiquitous problem at this point, not a Dell G15 specific problem. Also you can certainly find a G15 RTX 3060 with better screen as there are many models of G15.
I'm a Legion 5 fan, but gotta say Dell has really stepped up their game with the BIOS/driver updates on the G15 2021, especially given their competitive pricing.
When will you review hp omen 15 ryzen5 rtx3060 model ??? BTW very nice video.
Yup can confirm for Canada as well. I got the amd version with 165hz too.
You make the exact content that we need so much so perfect thank you
I've got a modified G15 5511, and it's (one of) the best laptop that I've used.
You could also calibrate the display to make it less 'yellowy'
Is it worth it? Absolutely, I do not regret owning this laptop at all. Yes the 64GB RAM comes in handy, and the CPU is not a letdown at all. I agree with Jarrod too, if you're gaming on this, please for the love of God, plug it in. You'll just get worse performance for much worse battery life if you don't.
Does it have MUX switch
@@BlamefulCarp Yes it does, but you have to enable it in the BIOS
I just bought it :'( But to be honest I will be mostly gaming in an external monitor so screen won't be an issue for me. And all "budget" gaming laptops come with slower memory so I already knew I had to upgrade to get the most our of it. I think it's a great gaming laptop for my needs :)
I just want to have a gaming laptop that I won't have any major issue with while playing with my friends, please recommend your favourite GL you use

Hey Jarrod, can please do a review for the new G15 SE with the Intel i7 11800H processor?
"I'm sure its not Dell making AMD look bad......" - the company that Intel called their best friend? HAH! Here in Singapore they list the Ryzen models as the "G15" but the 11th gen intel models as "the new G15". Hmmmmmmmmm
the new g15 because there are intel 10 gen g15 that was released before the ryzen edition.
From where I come from, there's only a RTX3050 version with tdp 80W, it comes with a Ryzen 5 5600H, converted to US dollars it cost 962.90 dollars, in my country currency it cost 4049.00, is it even worth it
On dell website it says
"15.6-inch, FHD, 1920 x 1080, 165 Hz, anti-glare, non-touch, 100% sRGB, 300 nits, wide-viewing angle (WVA)"
Can someone confirm if the 165 does truly have 100% SRGB?
Because there isn't a big difference in $$ between 120 HZ screen and 165 HZ
Please can you recommend a laptop for heavy games and regular programing in the range of $ 3000 usd. I am literally confused with all these trade offs.

what brand and details of RAM should i buy if I'm planning to get this laptop? I'm not tech savvy and i probably end up with the 3050 variant.

Idk if you'll even read this, but..
I bought a 5525 last year and ran pretty great, until I started getting BIOS issues. - it went on for so long, I asked for exchange or money back. - I decided to exchange, due to the fact that it was an option to get the 5530... however, I made the mistake of not researching before and I think I made a bad move.
the following are the specs:
Nvidia RTX4050 6GB @ ddr6
Intel i7 13th gen 13650HX 16GB Ram, 165hz with 1TB m2...
and my game starts to lag at some points..
I am thinking about upgrading my laptop,
My choices are built an apu based 1.desktop without graphic card (5700g) or
2.buy Dell g15 with 3050 and 16gb and processor is 5600h
Which one is better choice or should I go for

Nothing is future proof, it'll be a stretch to find anything that still performs well in games 5 years from now let alone 10.
Even if it can play demand games till next 10 years you probably would want to change it nonetheless, just like phone or any technology.
