Planning to buy a gaming laptop soon and MSFS 2020 is one of the first games I'll be trying so this is helpful. At first I thought that the weird hinge would be the biggest issue for the Dell G15
Dual ram is always better than a single one, 2x4 is x8, 2x8 is x16. Basically It's better as it can process things through 2 rams at the same time instead of all traffic going through one lane.
I got mine with 165Hz Screen And upgraded the RAM to 32GB 3200Mhz x8 banks It's perfect now, the thermals don't get so bad, and with new BIOS update I think it does much better
It is now very hard to get the 165 Hz panel option with Ryzen variants in USA as well. Intially, all the RTX 3060 Models were paired with 165Hz screen but now only the 120hz option available across all configurations. Only Intel models are available with 165Hz option in US.
I recently purchased a G15 on the Afterpay sale. I must say the 120hz panel isn't ideal and I'm currently in the process of issusing a return or having an 165hz panel installed. In saying this when using the MUX switch, upgraded RAM and a slight GPU overclock the laptop performs very well in games. It's just a shame the decided to let it down the screen.
I bought this laptop last year November. Holding up quite well. Some tips if you want it to last: Disable cpu boost under power settings. There's a video on this on TH-cam. It basically brought my cpu Temps from 90 odd to 78 max. You don't lose much performance unless it's a cpu bound game. If you need the power. Just enable g-mode and it'll boost up. And toggle off when you don't need it. I always clean the fans like every 3 months. Keeps Temps also nice and low with minimal noise. Coil wine is unavoidable on newer laptops. Since gpus can be quite beefy. I cap my frames to 60 where I can and 120 for fps games. If you leave it uncapped, coil whine gets little loud. Not too loud. After 1 month of usage I noticed it but it wasn't loud where I'd notice it in games. Hope this helps. Love this laptop!
One last tip. I know alienware command center sucks but I somehow got it work, if it doesn't work for you, download a older version of it but get the full package installer and let it install what's necessary. Then for the fan curves. Do a custom one where fans it's a diagonal line from 0 to 100. I noticed the fans won't ramp up unless the Temps hit 70 or higher. If you do the custom fan curve, fans slowly ramp up overtime and is way better
I have the 165hz panel with the rtx3060 and I really like this laptop. Regarding the temps, I disabled the performance boost from power options and the temps don't go beyond 85c. I did realize if the laptop is placed on a surface that completely blocks the vents underneath then the laptop often tends to run warmer than usual. The funny thing is my mom has this japanese chabudai tea set with a very short-legged table that seats my laptop perfectly on it, best part is it has openings underneath so the temps are actually are pretty good. I did have a bunch of BSODs till last month (was a pain in the ass trying to fix it and still don't know what I did to rectify the problems) but now that seemingly everything's working well I abolutely love this machine. The RGB keyboard is also pretty nice although I have noticed that the lighting stops functioning if the laptop is turned on from sleep mode.
@@riichobamin7612 discreet gpu is unaffected by disabling the cpu boost clock. I think the cpu is locked to its base clock, not a tech pro but I'm assuming this is the case. Msi afterburner shows the gpu operating the same before and after disabling the boost

Dual ram is always better than a single one, 2x4 is x8, 2x8 is x16. Basically It's better as it can process things through 2 rams at the same time instead of all traffic going through one lane.
I got mine with 165Hz Screen
And upgraded the RAM to 32GB 3200Mhz x8 banks
It's perfect now, the thermals don't get so bad, and with new BIOS update I think it does much better
is it still doing good?
It is now very hard to get the 165 Hz panel option with Ryzen variants in USA as well. Intially, all the RTX 3060 Models were paired with 165Hz screen but now only the 120hz option available across all configurations. Only Intel models are available with 165Hz option in US.
same here yet they flew out of the shelves
Please bring a detailed review for the 2022 g15 model
How to know my laptop use what kind of ram? I mean how to check if its x8 or x16?
I recently purchased a G15 on the Afterpay sale. I must say the 120hz panel isn't ideal and I'm currently in the process of issusing a return or having an 165hz panel installed. In saying this when using the MUX switch, upgraded RAM and a slight GPU overclock the laptop performs very well in games. It's just a shame the decided to let it down the screen.
Yeah it sucks, I'm still gonna get it, I'm coming from a 60hz screen so imo I'll probably see/feel a difference
Ended up buying a legion 7 with an RTX 3080. 😛
would it still run a true 120hz external monitor at 120hz tho??
Bought the Lenovo legion 5 2021 convinced with your video... Amazing choice, very Happy.
Just nabbed this for 500 bucks. Honestly even with the problems for that price point I dont think ill be able to complain. Good informative video
I bought this laptop last year November. Holding up quite well. Some tips if you want it to last:
Disable cpu boost under power settings.
@@kuro.editzzz appreciate the tips! I completely forgot about cpu boost

would the first problem be solved with a 144hz monitor?
Yes. The HDMI 2.1 output from the GPU works fantastic
Wait, so if you disable the performance boost, then aren't you not getting the full power from your GPU ?
@@riichobamin7612 discreet gpu is unaffected by disabling the cpu boost clock. I think the cpu is locked to its base clock, not a tech pro but I'm assuming this is the case. Msi afterburner shows the gpu operating the same before and after disabling the boost
@@Daquarius_. thanks man 👍🏻
Hey you said you were getting BSOD’s on your laptop as well? I have the same specs as you and I’m currently getting those blue screens while gaming. Would you be able to tell me what you did that might have fixed that please?
@@Boowompering hey Isaiah, I did a clean install of win 10 which stopped the bsods till I started facing the same kernel power error 41 task 63 again. Upgraded to win 11 (clean install again) it stopped but has been happening again since last night. I'm clueless qs to what could be causing it. All my drivers are updated to the latest version of the correct model as well. I'll do some digging around soon and If I a potential fix I'll post it here. One thing I have noticed is that the cpu temp even with G mode on, starts to go up to high 80s and low 90s before restarting.
Enjoyed the video. I have been using the laptop without any problems. Upgraded it to 64 GB of memory. All video plays back smoothly. The problem is with Openshot video editor. The sound play back and video playback are terrible. I've adjusted the memory preferences, but no improvement. Any suggestions?
Jus picked up a 5511, 11th gen i7, 3060, 16gb ram, and 1tb ssd (165hz) for 1199 from micro center. Pretty stoked on it so far

Hi, I purchased new laptop. Dell G 15 5520 i5 12th gen 16Gb.From 1st day onwards I'm getting a battery drop of 1℅ per minute. I checked task manager, cpu at 1℅, Dedicated Graphics 0℅, memory 5.8GB, WiFi 0 KBps, Integrated GPU 0℅. No external devices connected while testing reports. Design capacity of battery is 54,891mWh, Full charge of capacity is 52030mWh ( which reducing every next day). A total of just 100 min of backup I get on STAND BY MODE(which is with only display onn and no other function on it) I I talk with Dell and they finally agreed that this laptop should give 3-4 hrs of backup on stand by mode. And they ready to replace with new battery.I kindly request you to share your opinion on this scenario that is my battery has a problem? And if yes then should I allow dell to replace battery of new laptop or should I opt for complete laptop replacement? Waiting...for your reply my friend.
Hey Jarrod, the ryzen 5800h version or i7 11800h ?

I have the G15 intel version with 3060 and 165hz screen. Overall it's an amazing gaming laptop, but when you turn the MUX switch off, the battery life is horrible, even when you're not gaming, other than that, there's no complaint.

@@profiyntroz5186 My Legion 7 Pro with 12GB 6850M XT says otherwise. Beats RTX 3080 Ti laptops and is more efficient in terms of power draw. I know it beats it, because I had the best 3080 Ti laptop you can buy (The ASUS G17 Special Edition) which was an amazing laptop, but for £3500 when I bought it, you'd expect a laptop that isn't plastic. Whereas the Legion 7 Pro (6900hx, 165hz 1600p 500 nits screen, RX 6850M XT 12gb) I got for literally £1000 brand new. The Legion 7 Pro has a 165hz 1600p 500 nits HDR screen, whereas the G17 SE had a 240hz 1440p screen, which was decent but way lower colour accuracy than the Lenovo, no HDR, and only 300 nits.
I also had the G15 Advantage Edition with the 6800M. Performed amazingly trading blows with RTX 3080 laptops for much cheaper. AMD used to be bad and have issues such as driver issues, but those days are gone. RDNA 2/3 and Ryzen are AMAZINGLY good architectures. Which is why they power both consoles this gen, and we have AMD Ryzen/RDNA to thank for devices such as the steam deck, and ASUS Rog Ally. Which are both amazing devices, but I did end up selling my steam deck and keeping my Dog Ally.
This fanboyism is really stupid, both brands (Nvidia and AMD) have amazing products, and both brands have some pretty bad products.
