Seems a bit like they’re finding problems for the sake of finding problems. I’ve just bought my first Clio and one of the things the salesperson told me was about how the keyless entry doesn’t work if you use the keycard to lock/unlock the car but it resets once you start up the car, surely if you’re reviewing a car you should know that sort of detail 🙄

My father bought a Dynamique two years ago. I have NEVER seen him so enamoured with his own car before. He's owned models from quite a number of different brands over the years, from Ford, to Toyota to FIAT. He even used to be a VW Golf devotee, before downsizing a few years ago to a Suzuki Swift... well, since getting the Clio, he has been only too delighted. And I must admit, having taken it for a spin a few times, I find it to be a very enjoyable little car to zip around in. Probably the best-looking supermini at the moment too, with those nice lines and haunches. But it needs to have a good trim level so as not to feel too cheap.

I've owned the 0.9 TCe Dynamique Nav S with GT Line look pack for the last two years and have been highly impressed with the car. The engine's overboost function and adaptive ECU mean that if you drive the car fairly briskly all the time, it performs almost like a warm hatch with rapid third gear overtaking in particular. Taking an overall 47 mpg into account I'd happily buy another one when the time comes to replace it.

  • @blankpotocnik97

Changing keycard battery helps with this stuff, when it starts doing that you know card battery is saying goodbye. Also your 0-60 time is for 90 hp 0,9 tce. As for Media Nav, probably it's not the best now, but still way better then old fashioned radio.

Just like Phill Tromans, I get frustrated when keyless entry doesn't unlock. the car. But as others have said, that's because the previous person used who pened my Clio the keyfob rather than the button on the door. Switch on/off the ignition resets the system.
I agree with nearly everything Phill says about the car - it's a fair review. I've owned my 0.9tce for 16 months from del miles (pre-reg) and it's been 100% reliable and returned an astonishing 53mpg average. (I don't use the car for short journeys and drive with my 'eco' head on). Just returned from a 500mile round trip most of which was motorway - the engine defies it's tiny size.
The only differences I'd pick from Phill's final report:
1: Agree about the infotainment, the Sat Nav isn't the greatest or most intuative but at least it has one of the easiest DAB radios to use.
2: The keyless is one of the best systems bar none. Video refers to pushing the door button on exit? No, you don't you just walk away and the system locks itself. (Unlike VAG's keyless where you do have to physically toch the car to close it). And unlike VAG's systems, Renault's is intelligent enough to know when the keys are inside the car - i.e. you can't accidentally lock the remote inside the car.
3: Cruise control button on centre console? Thats the master 'ON' switch. I set that switch to 'ON' the moment I collected the car from the dealership - I've never had to touch it again in 16months so why it it's location a problem? I simply use the 'SET' or 'Cancel' button on the steering wheel to use cruise control. Again it's one of the easier systems to use.
I'm currently looking to change the Clio for something bigger (we need an estate). I'm really going to miss it, something I thought I'd never say about a French car.

Just spent several weeks on gathering information on budget hatchbacks. In the end it came down to the Peugeot 208, Toyota Yaris and the Renault Clio. I test drove all of them and gathered information through YT. The clio (2017, 120PS) really convinced me with its agility, punch, good suspension, cool design and quiet driving experience. It's sporty, funky, fun and still practical. The Yaris (101PS) seems solid, but somewhat noisy when being pushed beyond 60km/h. The peugeot 208 had a weird auto gear shift that didn't run smoothly at all. It overall just wasn't a pleasant ride. Thumbs up to Renault, they've taken it a step further these years. Love their work!

IPhone connectivity issues are resolved using the latest software update for the MediaNav, it can be done in 10 minutes with a Laptop and usb flash drive using Renaults MediaNav Toolbox software.
The problem with the keyless entry is if you use the button on the card to lock it, you must use the button on the card to unlock it. Not an issue if you are using the car yourself but if its a pull card as mentioned that will be the issue, people using the button to lock it assuming that is how you would do it as that's how we have been locking and unlocking cars for the last 15 years!

Absolutely agree with Anthony Hedge on this review. You simply did not read the manual and got the wrong infotainment system. I owned the pre facelift version with the Tce 120, an automatic and R-Link. I loved it and in 33.000 miles it never failed me once. (because I read that manual)

I have one as a hire car. I agree with this review. It’s a pretty car (mine is in metallic red/orange and it looks nice) and I quite like the punchy and rorty engine (although my usual car is a BMW 330). Compared against that, the nav system feels a bit cheap - but I have to say I’ve warmed to the Clio. It’s a nice little car, great as family runaround and perfectly capable of a longer run or some fun around the bends. Good little car!

Renault always have put the cruise control switch in odd places. I've always driven Fords, BMWs and VWs, all of those have had cruise control activation on the steering wheel.
My mum isn't loyalist to manufacturers at all so when she had a Renault Laguna a few years back and I'd drive it (which drove absolutely fantastically, strong brakes, perfect steering and grip) I was always searching for the button which was between the steering wheel and door on the dashboard.
She also had their previous generation keyless entry where you walked away and it locked and you just put your hand inside the handle to unlock it. Worked flawlessly.
The only times it didn't work would be when she'd closed the windows/sunroof with the key once she'd gotten out the car which meant she had to use the key to open the car again.

Good review. One note regarding the charging and iPhone compatibility issue. It's not the car's fault I would suspect but rather the phone's. You do have an iPhone after all. A simple solution would have been a using the aux to connect to your phones audio while using a car charger (plug into the cigarette lighter socket) and that should do the trick.

Cruise control on display is not a bad thing and it's easy to cycle through everything, also what Tashie801 said, you can use keyless always if you don't use key fob. I've been driving almost the exact same Clio as this one for 6 months and never had any problems with keyless.

I've got one too. The blutooth sometimes in the phone gets jammed, or in the car system which blocks the entirse system...and only gets ok after turning of car and turning on again. Sometimes I need to reset to factory settings or reset my phone. Bluetooth isn't certain to work .
The phone calls dialed through phone arent recognized by Car system, yet when dialed in the console its ok.
When locking car, through Keyless mode or button mode, if u have it in your pocket next to a cellphone it wont work, as phone signal interferes with it.
About the FULL LED lights (Car Model, in the Van model, There are no LEDS in the rear) , when completely turned off, the front Minimium Leds are brigher than when are turned on but in this mode, the Plate number wont get Lights. Have travelled in highway only with TUrned off lights which illuminates way further.
if needed, turn completely ON to turn on Medium lights of course.

You don't understand the keyless entry system. If you flick the button to lock it then when you come to it next time it won't allow keyless entry, this can happen sometimes when you put it in your pocket and the button gets pressed by mistake. If you walk away and it locks automatically then when you come back it will alloy keyless entry so unless yours has a fault then like I said your not using it properly Both me and my son have 66 plate clios and never once had a problem. My only real gripe is the stop start system but at least you can switch it off

Pity to see that Renault still haven't worked out how to do infotainment. I have a 2012 MK3: I love the car in general, but the infotainment has so many flaws.
For one, it freaks out in cold weather. Below 10°C and the GPS signal will intermittently drop, often for days at a time. Below 5°C and the satnav stops even trying, and sometimes the clock disappears. Living in Scotland, that means that the satnav only works properly for approximately 5 months out of the year.
The Bluetooth is so stupidly complicated that I've given up on it. It took me ages to work out how to even find the option to pair a device for a start, and everytime I try to actually do that, it asks me to enter a mysterious code that it thinks my phone is displaying. I've tried with 3 different phones now and not one of them displayed a code. Come to think of it, without an app or text message link, I don't see how it even could make my phone display a message.
And I can't use the AUX connection in its place because Renault somehow managed to f*ck that up too. Instead of it being aux to aux like every other car in existence, Renault have made it AV to aux. Not only does that make finding a spare or replacement difficult, it's also appallingly unreliable. If the cable gets knocked or moved at all during use, it pops and cuts out, and sometimes the audio sounds like it's underwater. The only way to correct this is to jiggle the cable around til it's happy again, but 2 minutes later the same thing will happen once more.
It's a terrible system on the whole, but I can forgive Renault as it is essentially a 15 year old design. But it concerns me that the new system still seems to have many annoying faults of its own. I REALLY hoped they'd have ironed out the Bluetooth connection at least, but apparently not. Having lots of tech in a reasonably priced car is always appealing, but the novelty wears off quickly if it doesn't work!

Own this car, but 0.9l model.
The car won't let you unlock the door by just pressing the button on the handle if you used the button on the remote to lock it.
Sometimes, you need to press it once, wait a bit, pull the handle, and then press the button for it to work.
I call it a quirk, but I do love the car, perfect for most situations.

      @BucherMucher 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You can do it either one way or another. I call it an OPTION. Meaning , you can disallow the keyless entry and the auto lock when you walk away. May be you don't want to use the conventional way? Fine! Nobody forces you to. You'll call it 'stupid' ? Call it whatever you want! But stating: "Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and in 10 min later it works abs fine ...." is ridiculous. Again, shame!

May of the components and platforms are shared so parts/servicing and maintenance know how are already available. Even sharing dealerships could b an option.

Having to drive a Clio as a replacement vehicle while my Dacia Sandero was serviced I was very disappointed and at least in theory the Clio should be better but not for me. I drive a diesel on my Dacia and the replacement car had the 1.2 petrol engine (did not feel any turbo) and I had to keep digging into the acceleration to keep up with traffic compared to the DCI on my Dacia that feels quicker. Than is the space and the design of the car. Despite having more adjustment on the steering wheel in a Clio actually is useless if you have the wrong height because you cannot reach the pedals unless you move the seat forward enough and when you do it you risk banging your head into the ceiling at the first pot hole or speed bump. The design of the Clio obviously compromised in practicality too much since at the back you will struggle to fit a child seat correctly for a 9 year old. The only things that I found superior in the Clio compared to her cousin (Dacia) were the lighter steering and lighter manual gear box.
Overall .....I could not wait to get my Dacia back.
