    One of Australia’s largest people movers has had its biggest makeover in 14 years.
    If you need the most amount of space in a modern people mover, the Hyundai Staria is worth a look, especially now Hyundai’s family freighter finally has up-to-date safety systems and technology.
    However, based on first impressions, it can’t match the refinement, comfort, fuel-efficiency and driving enjoyment of the Kia Carnival.

    I've seen the Staria in person a month ago and my first thought was those taillights are amazing. Then I saw the front and simply "wow"! Its a big vehicle and tall but It has definite style and presence on the road no matter where you turn. Hyundai have reinvented the 'people mover limousine' for sure.

    I don’t hate how it looks. I certainly prefer the look of the carnival. But I love that this is AWD! I need a people mover to accommodate teens and toddlers and all the stuff so SUV’s don’t work. But I also need something that can tow. This is the best option I’ve come across to date!

      Although I really wish they had put anchor points in the 3rd row. This annoys me having a van with only 3 points!

    I am interested in a people mover that would be best to also use as a camper when not needing its people moving capabilities. What is your suggestions?

    Flat floor in the front so you can get out on the pavement side, no SUVs can do that, plus sliding doors. Fantastic.

    Thanks for the video; it was very informative and well presented. I'm looking to upgrade from a small car. We are a family of 5 and we want to be able to give someone a lift occasionally. In our case, we may not want the third row all the time, so I'd prefer a car where you can have the third row folded right away most of the time. It looks as though the 3rd row in the Staria didn't really fold away; you could just push it forward to give a bit more boot space. Is that right?
    I think I'm looking for a wagon that has an 'occasional' 3rd row. Can you suggest something?

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The third-row base folds up and the back rest slides forward to make a very large cargo area. If you are looking for an occasional third row have a look at either our current Car of the Year Kia Sorento or Toyota Kluger, Hyundai Palisade or even the 5 plus 2 seater Outlander.

    There is no arm rest on the driver seat ?

    I like it, but I don’t want it as a people mover. I want it as an AWD camper. I’ve had a an iLoad for 11 and a half years and it’s been the most reliable thing I’ve ever had.

    SUV vs People Mover for me ...
    I want a flat floor when seats are folded down, only Avensis and Chrysler have done that. We carry stuff and may sometimes sleep in the car. Many SUVs do this. Interesting that car reviews only talk about litres when talking about the loading capacity, when most of us want to know width, length and height.
    I'm not a great fan of sliding doors. Handy for shopping centre car parks and avoiding a passenger opening the door on a cyclist, but most of them don't have opening windows which is annoying for passengers. The ones that have opening windows are awkward or if an old model, become a guillotine when you have an accident. They are also slow to open/close and when parked (or stuck in traffic), the full door must be opened to get some fresh air, causing many issues. Sliding doors don't have armrests for the passengers. Avensis and a generation of Odyssey had standard doors.

    As a Toyota fan and a automobile designer
    The Staria is futuristic and elegant, i hope this fantastic family van doesnt turn into a hearse

      Hi RRA - agreed, it's very futurstic and elegant. Can you kindly explain what you mean by 'turning into a hearse'? :) Just curious. Thanks

    I would like to see the multivan t6.1 highline and Mercedes V300d compared to Carnival, Staria and Grandvia. All top spec people movers compared (a more apples with apples comparison). I have been in this segment for years and all have their strength and weaknesses. (eg FWD, AWD, 4Motion, RWD. Towing capacity, seating configs, suspension options, and other different tech)
    Also a shame the Staria didnt do captain chairs in 2nd row like overseas.

    70K on the road and it doesn't have a center arm rest..! As a comparison, the 37K LDV G10 Executive has both for the front and second row!

    people movers like this can make a great 'adventure/camper' vehicle ( compared to a trade van) it will be interesting to see how the AWD sells.

      I’m about to buy a Staria Load - basically this but just the two seats and totally stripped out in the back.
      The Load version also has a different heavy duty leaf spring rear suspension for when I deck it out with a bed and storage and kitchen etc etc. And put kayaks on the roof and mountain bikes on the back!

    I'm not a fan of vans per se, as my daily is a 2018 WRX LMTD. However, if I ever need one for whatever reason that may be, count me in! Totally loving the 80's nuances of the exterior, definitely #☝️! This 2022 made in 🇰🇷 ⭐®️ℹ🅰️ should be the epitome of what all modern day 🚐's should look like, feel like, drive like. Sooner or later, I forsee someone converting this into a mean overlanding 🏕 lifted🪨 off-roader of sorts, who will be the first🤔🤷🏻‍♂️ ⁉️

    Oversea models have 7 seater(2 captain chairs), 9 seater(4 captain chairs) configuration, plus a 11 seater configuration, and even there is a Staria limousine, sadly in Australia only came as a boring 8 seater.

    • @aabidamn
      @aabidamn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the size, it looks cramped with 'only' 8 seat config. Unless you own an orphanage, most people don't need that much seat that often.

    Hello,
    Loved the Hyundai Staria, when I test drove this vehicle. As the Staria felt like a car or SUV, rather than a van during the test which surprised me.
    Equally I believe the Staria diesel engine model is better value as it comes with AWD. Unlike the petrol model which is front wheel drive only, considering the Staria weight is over two tons. Whereby, placing all handing and drive on the front wheels which may deminish the vehicle responsiveness.
    However, over all the Staria is a great vericle that has the capability to really challenge it's competitors within the people mover car industry.
    Thank you,
    Martin

    Interesting vehicle, so, Hyundai thinks that it can reinvent the Mercedes Benz R Class. Maybe it will make more families aware of what fantastic value a second hand Mercedes Benz R Class represents at less than a 1/3rd of the price of a new Staria.

    • @aabidamn
      @aabidamn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that this is more comparable with the V Class.
      People are aware how cheap a second hand R-Class is. Problem is, they also know that there's nothing more expensive than a cheap German car.

    • @garrybellairs9271
      @garrybellairs9271 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aabidamn I agree, the Staria and V Class are both van based vehicles, the R Class is not and therefore far more "car like" to drive. I've owned 2 of them and yes, servicing can be expensive IF you stick with dealers, but if you do a little research they can be properly log book maintained by specialist service centres for the same cost as a late model Japanese or Korean vehicle.
