- DAVE KNOWS that Pro Wrestling Guerilla and their Battle of Los Angeles Tournament is one of wrestling's best annual events. As it's served as not only some of the best wrestling for PWG, but also a common signal of who is the finest in Independent wrestling and who to look forward to as the next break out star. So let's examine the history of this event and see the stars who made the event as great as it is.

To me pwg always had the best wrestling humor, like when Marty scurll figured out who ricochet was cuz of his tights, or d-bry and omega's real names

Ricochet being amazing both solo and when the inner city machine guns and african american wolves were flying around everywhere. That Trevor lee and mike bailey reverse hurricarana apron bump. Saber junior tying adam cole up in knots. Tommy Ends debut versus Hero. slow motion wrestling. Uno dislocating his shoulder and finishing the match. Ciampa nearly killing Bryan Cage, then next night coming out willingly to let cage get his revenge. Mount Rushmore. Worlds cutest tag team just doing anything - loved Candice. Excalibur and Chuckie T on commentary. being introduced to so many more great wrestlers from compaines i'd not even seen before. and the best atmosphere ive seen for a long time. truly great times to be a fan, and the only old shows i still rewatch.
Chuckie T on commentary will hands down, forever be my favourite thing about PWG.
2015 was when I started watching PWG also lol
I was watching PWG in the early days and to give you some context on the first BOLA winner: Chris Bosh was incredibly over at the time thanks to his promos and was a huge local favorite. This was back when PWG still put an emphasis on pushing the local talent, so it made sense they would have him win over AJ Styles. Props to AJ for not having an ego and being willing to put over a local talent like that. It's unfortunate Bosh retired in 2008 because he had a lot of charisma and could have made it if he stuck around longer.
Also, Chris Bosh the wrestler debuted before Chris Bosh the basketball player was drafted in the NBA. At the time, basketball player Chris Bosh wasn't quite as famous as he would become after playing with LeBron.
B.O.L.A 2013 was the starting point of my discovery of PWG. Even though I haven't watched it from its early days, I keep up with the history and the next events on occasion when I had the time through the past decade.
*Mount Rushmore of Professional Wrestling* was awesome with Kevin Steen, Young Bucks, and Adam Cole. The slow-motion were the best moments back in the old ballroom before it got closed down.
The theater place has its perks for the California promotion.
PWG is a place where independent talent from all places come to show off their talent before being picked up by notable wrestling companies. Just like The Comedy Store for comedians.

I've heard about this Tournament for Years, but have never gone to it, and really want to. It's on my Wrestling Bucket List just behind Wrestle Kingdom and The New Japan Super Junior's Tournament.

My favorite moments of PWG are: AJ Styles coming back to PWG as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. (you dont get that fucking often)
and Young Bucks n Adam Cole vs Ricochet, Will Ospreay and Matt Sydal. that match was fucking awesome...

Would you agree that the rise of BOLA is a factor in a recent trend of American promoters with annual or big event tournaments?
I'm sure it has it's influence, but tournaments have long been a hook for wrestling
No doubt. Prior to BOLA, ECWA's Super 8 was one of the bigger tourneys on the Indy Circuit. Check out the who's who over the years, even up to 2018. The 2019 edition was made up of all 2nd and 3rd generation wrestlers, won by Lance A'noai. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECWA_Super_8_Tournament
I trained in wrestling but cant figure out how to get booked
While I am no expert, I will say from what I have observed, go to local indie shows, talk to the people there and see what they have to say. Also make a demo reel, something to show promoters what you can do in the ring and what you can do on promo. Get that uploaded and share the link to whoever is interested

A lot of trainers will help get their students booked on shows. Not sure if you're still in contact with the people that trained you, but they probably have connections.

I wonder if WWE would do a partnership with PWG. They could use the Network platform since they don’t currently have a digital platform (their hipster fans might turn on them if they did though)
