I used to get home from school and they played WCCW on ESPN. I even loved watching reruns.

Growing up in the 80's & getting mostly WWF on Saturdays. I was fortunate enough to get WCCW/UWF on Wednesday nights on Channel U68. Hot feuds & a hot crowd to match.

Dave, I grew up in Portland and was a big mark for the old Portland wrestling. The first wrestler I remember was a heel named Kurt Von Poppenheim. The television broadcast was on channel 27 a local, from the Armory hosted by Heidelberg. The announcer was a guy called Bob Macenauldy sp. Another big draw was Prince Kaheo a huge Hawaiian guy. Tony Bourne, Shag Thomas, Mad dog Vachone, Moondog Lonnie Mane, Chief Billy Whitewolf, and Pepper Gomez. Lots of wrestlers came to Portland the list is Very long. Johnny Kostas, Dutch Savage, Jesse Ventura, Gentlemen Ed Francis, Brutus Beefcake.

This great classic showcase of entertaining historical using past and future young stars and old stars to make it a timeless show to watch plus Houston wrestling some of early days is bestest to watch because it uses little tool of professional wrestling and great personality with a great owner and commenter copy by wwe past years

I always find these old promotion histories very interesting. Sad WCCW went down mainly because of tragedy (excluding the fake von Erich which was a bad decision. But they did well when they were around and great to see they’re not forgotten

I don't remember if it was in the independently produced film or the WWE version featuring the history of WORLD CLASS but in one of them, KEVIN VON ERICH said his brother Kerry had complex surgery on his foot but Kerry stood and put weight on it before it healed properly and wrecked all of the surgeon's handiwork...they had no choice but to amputate at that point! During his WWF tenure, he wore a prosthetic foot.

1982 to late 1985 wccw was the best.
Wccw was not as well promoted as the wwf in the 80's.
Dynamic duo 2 von Erich was another great feud.
Freebirds von erichs feud was awesome.

I don't know if it was talked about by you before in another video. Why are some wrestlers known as "babyfaces?" Why not just face? Are we suppose to say, "Awe, how cute" about those wrestlers? We don't refer to really evil heels as feet. Great video by the way.

Grew up in Boston and late 70’s WWF tv was my first exposure to wrestling, but in the early 80’s WCCW started being shown on ch 56 uhf around the area on Saturdays, preceded by old Bozo the Clown shows from the 60’s-70’s, and usually followed with candle pin bowling. WCCW was miles ahead of even Vince at the time with their production and their booking, holy shit, they had squash matches but also had stars facing off in great matches with hot finishes. WWF was just squash’s and a few interviews that were pretty bland, occasionally, like once or twice a year something of note would occur to further an angle, that’s it.

  • @tmage23

Maybe I'm remembering things wrong but I would swear that World Class had that name well before 1982. They were my first exposure to pro wrestling and I'm pretty sure I was watching them in 1979 and I don't remember them being called Big Time Wrestling at the time.
Also I'm surprised you didn't talk about the "Dallas Booking Office" (Fritz, Gary Hart and David Manning) essentially being the talent booking portal for all of the other regional promoters in the state like Paul Boesch.

Well like I said, never been publicly confirmed. Never been shown a picture or video of it. Although I think it would be more commendable if the public knew. But without physical evidence, it ain't counting it

    • @jerrystephens9057
      @jerrystephens9057 ปีที่แล้ว

Well watch the videos where Kerry’s foot / boot bends in half during matches. Legit people close to him have confirmed it. You’ll only acknowledge it if you see a pic of the stub?

  • @MattdaJack1

Why was it decided to not have the NWA championship defended in Texas anymore? I’m guessing, because of the rise of JCPs, and title changes being limited to territories under its banners. Is that right or am I missing something ?

I would suggest that everybody with even a passing interest in WCCW ought to check out the book "Playboy Gary Hart: My Life in Wrestling", but unfortunately it's out of print and Amazon's only selling a hardcover copy for well over $1000. Fortunately, there are digital copies floating around out there for those who know where to look for such things.
