- After a period of 111 days without concerts due to the Coronavirus in the Concertgebouw, Lucas (27) & Arthur (23) Jussen were the first ones to play an official concert in this beautiful hall. This memorable recording was made possible by the Bankgiroloterij series in cooperation with the Tanglewood Music Festival. In this video the Jussen brothers perform Ravels Ma Mère l'Oye.

Lucas and Arthur, you two are my favorite pianists, on my favorite pianos. I am sorry that the Covid virus has stopped your live performances. I saw the distress you have been in because of the absence of live audiences. However I hope you know how powerful these bare stage performance videos are. There is no one coughing in the background, no premature applause, and so on. It is as if we are seeing and hearing your bare souls there for us. Please continue these TH-cam performances. You are both superb soloists, but your duos and duetted are just stunning beautiful. Please stay online here for us and keep recording.

I loved playing this ten years ago with my first piano teacher. Still have the music and would love to play it again
I think I’m going to ask my teacher if I could perform this with her. I think it’s musically complex enough for me to be satisfied with a performance, but it’s simple enough in technique that I can manage it without too much trouble (I’m a composer and violinist so I understand phrasing and music theory very well, but I’ve only recently started piano).
It’s so beautiful in its almost absurd simplicity of sound. There is nothing else, no work of music in the whole world, that I can compare to this. It was clearly written for children, but the underlying mechanisms of the harmony are not concepts a child would easily understand. Yet it sounds perfectly narrative and intuitive.
I hope you find someone to perform this with again! :)

Aside from the fact that it is wonderful musical art, it is also an amazing demonstration of the remarkable ability to respect and give each the space to do the work. It’s as if they were one mind. With eyes closed much of the time. The lessons for the world of ensemble. That is why one should do more than just listen. One should learn the lessons for themselves by participating in musical ensembles for themselves and let the greats inspire us to cooperate with each other as they do. We make each other greater. Not competition, ensemble! Theses young men know something very special that politicians, business oligarchs and armies do not. I adore performing the Ravel. So sensual. Lucas and Arthur are just extraordinary. Perfect phrasing and subtly of dynamics, pedaling and nuance. Bravissimo Gents.

This is bliss, Lucas and Arthur. I still think the original duet piano as Ravel first wrote it has a simple, innocent fragility that his later orchestration and ballet never quite find. Bravo. Impressionistic Ravel at his best. Bravo for your seamless interpretation. Heck, you're so tuned in to each other. Good to see you back.

This is a very tricky, delicate and lyrical piece to hold together, with its oriental tonalities, but one of Ravel's loveliest moments.. I think Lucas and Arthur did it beautifully. Thank you.
This to me is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I remember I had the CD of the Montreal Orchestra performing it with Charles Dutoit conducting. I listen to it only once a year on my birthday as a gift to myself, it makes me cry every year.

This is so early 20th-century music. Ravel was /is a very interesting composer. This is a really beautiful piece. I particularly like Laideronnette, impératrice des pagodes, it has some beautiful Asian harmonies (It makes me feel like a little boy again). You guys make me forget that it is 4 hands playing a piano: the music flows straight from above…You are two adorable music wizards (it’s not a gay comment..{ I hope 😜). You should play it with some ballet dancers once in a while, the ballet version is really interesting. It should be fun. Bravi!!!
