If you have a "rough" yard or need to cut short brush, the lawnmower shroud collects debris and evantually causes the belt to slip. Be sure to check for debris between the deck and shroud before deciding to replace the belt. Couple of other things... You do not need to remove that shroud to replace the belt as long as you can guide the belt through the opening, which will be almost always. ALso, be VERY careful when disconnecting the tension spring for the clutch to make sure that the little S shaped hook holding the spring to the lawnmower does not fall out. It is very hard to reinstall with the clutch and axle in place.
Thanks for the video. You convinced me that I am not qualified to get this done without much yelling, pounding, and bleeding. Will take it to a professional and save myself a mental breakdown.

Pretty straightforward. I’ve removed that shroud a few times for end-of-season maintenance, not that big of a deal after you’ve done it a few times. Well done, thanks! 👍👍
Currently I have five Honda branded Honda lawn mowers thrown away for reasons, I'm assuming, like valve lash, broken drive belt and or water in the carb. This video is much appreciated and worth subscribing to which I've done. I've heard that Honda is stopping production of gasoline powered lawn mowers from another channel and was wondering what your take on that is.
Yeah, I have beat the hell out of that adapter. I’ve sprayed it with penetrant. I put a torch to it until it was red hot and then beat it. That son of a biscuit will not come off. Air Hammer Hell!!
How did you take the blade bracket on the rotor off? There’s a cut in the video and either you did something I’m not doing, or mine is stuck… any help greatly appreciated!! Love the rest of the vid!
Welp, I hadn’t taken the shroud off due to the disclaimer, but after some additional attempts with the blade bracket, I decided to try that. Long story short, I was able to resolve my issue without having to remove the bracket. Thanks again for the vid, you helped me out BIG TIME today!! 😊
such a great video thank you! quick question I got one of these mowers and the blades are hitting the left side of the deck I got it used and they didn't tell me they hit anything. Any idea what I should look for in my case?
LOL, you got this Jacob. Whenever I first acquire a new/used mower I always apply anti-seize grease to the blade adapter and or crank shaft. I sometimes use a very LIGHT DUTY! cordless auto/air hammer to vibrate the adapter loose. PRO TIP: Apply heat or torch to help loosen rusted or seize parts, also try soaking rust penetrant overnight and remove rust with wire brush or sandpaper once free.
Thanks for the video but that's alot more work than what i want to deal with. Just a question though. I just bought my new mower on May 2nd. I don't even have the initial 5 hours on it yet and the smart drive stopped working. The belt seems way to loose but not broken and the cable looks ok still. Any thoughts before i call the warranty department? I'm not working on a brand new 600 dollar mower. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
You may just need to adjust the drive cable. Mine loosened because the lock nut had come loose. It is an older mower, but it could be the breakin on the unit caused yours to come loose some or it may just need tightening as the belts may stretch. Just my guesses...
Great video/camera work. I own a HRR216 that has a similar tranny. On other videos, they show 2 bolts. I don't have them. Do we have to drain/change tranny fluid @ any time? If so, what does it take & how would we DO it. I sub'd & gave u a 👍.
Guys… my lawn mower self propelled stopped today. Smelled like rubber burning. As some folks I was cutting low. Are these symptoms of the same issue? Thanks
My self propell stopped working and I suspect debris which is the cause. Is there a way I can check and remove the debris without having to remove all the parts? Generally where would the debris be stuck at? I'm assuming near the transmitted area in the back?
I have the same model and recently the self propel control got very stiff, it actually propels but very soon smoke starts coming from the back left handside. Is it related to drive belt? My mower is just one year old and still under warranty, would rather take care of it myself than take it to a service center.
Does it continue to smoke after reaching operating temperature? or does it briefly blow smoke? A small "puff" of smoke out of the exhaust is normal. I would double check the oil level first it and adjust accordingly till the oil level is reading between the full line and the low line on the dipstick. Remember do not screw the oil dipstick all the way in when checking the oil level.
As far as the smart drive being very stiff clean under the deck and make sure there's not excessive amount of grass build up around the transmission area, if underneath the deck is clean then refer to the owner's manual about adjusting the smart drive cable.
@@dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982 Smoke seems to be coming from where the transmission is, I got scared and shut the engine off and didn't wait till the operating temp is reached. Also it only comes out when I use the smart drive. If the engine is just running without being propelled no smoke.
I know this is the "correct" way to replace the drive belt. But if you remove the rear axle completely (4 bolts snd the spring) and fish the belt through, this job is very easy and takes less than 10. Minutes total.. and almost no swearing.
@@dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982 Just 1 more silly 😜 Question What is belt part number or where we can buy it if you have any suggestions Thanks in advance

The blade adapter is mostly rusted/seized on the crank shaft you’ll need heat or very very light duty auto hammer to get it off
Wow!! Thanks for the quick response! Thanks a bunch for the feedback. Tried hitting it with some PB blaster… I’ll try those other things though!
You can also try a 2 or 3 jaw or pulley puller just use a old bearing at the tip of the puller so it doesn’t tighten down
