Thanks for being straightforward. No jackin around or filler. Refreshing to watch.
This was the fourth video that I watched on belt replacement for a Honda mower. Yours was by far the best and the only one that avoided removal of the plastic guard guard. Thanks
Thanks 👍
Totally agree! Thank you!
This guy need to make a tutorial on how to make a tutorial, damn best self repair video on anything I've ever looked at
Thank you sir. Exactly what I thought. Lol.
well said. seems like 99% of such tutorials are filled with irrelevant information.
this guy just provided the exact information we need. and the socket sizes as a bonus!
Been going through vids regarding belt replacement, yours by far is the best!
Wow, thanks!
That was the best, most straightforward video for how to change the belt. Good job!
Wow, thanks!
This video saved me, I was cutting the lawn and the drive stopped working so I was going to take it back since I just bought it but I was out of my 30 days. I registered to warranty and they wanted $49 to look at and anything additional if warranty didn’t cover. I watched this and took it apart and it was a little piece of a stick that jammed the belt. Thanks for this.
This method is what I'm going to do. Zero plastic removal. PERFECT ! Why take off anymore than need be. I've got mowing to do or I wouldn't have found this excellent video !! Thank YOU
Thank you
Obviously a professional…….thanks man that was great!
I wish I’d seen this before I did the belt swap. That was easy. I’ll keep this in mind.
I've been waiting for the simplest DIY fix. Sir...I thank you. Now I can repair my self propel function. Kudos to you.
Glad to help. Thank you.
You were the only video that mentioned pulling the throttle cable off to allow the transmission to swing down to access the pulley. This was the key to allowing me to successfully get the 2 piece pulley apart. So much simpler than trying to blindly put on a crescent wrench and socket as I saw in other videos. Thanks!
Thank you
One of the best DIY videos I've seen -thank you, sir!
Wow, thanks!
The video was awesome! It only took me 30mins or so. I waited three weeks for the belt. I think they used a rowboat from Japan. Thank so much. That was so nice of you.
Thank you
Glad to see you posting again. Your videos are some of the best.
I appreciate that! Thank you
Very helpful. Just followed what you said and I was able to change the belt. Many other videos are asking the deck to be opened, which was not necessary as per your tip. Thank you! One struggle I had was to keep the cable back to the hook. It was very tight and was not going inside the metal hook.
Glad it helped
Thanks for the video. Liked how easy it was for you to get off the hub assembly! In the end I resorted to using my harmonic balancer. The hub was on there so tight it bent the frame but it was a cheapo chinese one and I will try and bend back straight. Will definitely be adding some anti seize on the hub when I put it together!
Hey bud, just wanted to say thank you for sharing this video with us, just changed mine today and you made it so easy, again thank you. Great video, very knowledgeable and easy to understand.
Glad it helped. Thank you.
A+ I tried to figure this out myself and it was hopeless. After your video I knew exactly how to replace the belt. Thanks!
Thank you for making this video!! It’s so helpful! I felt like I had to go buy a new mower so I went to the store thinking I can’t fix it🤷♀️. The same mower I have is now $549🙈 this has given me the confidence to maintain it myself!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you, this video saved me some money and I was able to use my tools to fix the issue on my own. Thank you very much.
You're welcome!
Great explanation. Much simpler than other videos. Thank you much.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video, clear and quick walkthrough of all the steps with helpful tips
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Thanks for the video. My neighbors mower appreciates it.
This video should have millions of views. Straight to the point and clear easy steps. I easily fixed my mower using your very helpful video. Thank you sir.
Thank you
Love this! Hardest part for me was getting that belt back on the blade pulley
Great Video. Very detailed. Nice to see someone still using a speed wrench. You may have wanted to check the blade for sharping since you had it off anyway. Other than that, this video will sure help out the next guy or gal when they run into the same problem you had.
Cool, thanks
Good job sir , you explained it like a pro !
I appreciate that! Thank you!
great video. i've been doing small engine repair for almost 40 years and your video is one of the best I've seen. I moved to Oahu Hawaii and now work on alot of Hondas. Always something going on with them. Hopefully the only issue is the belt. I haven't looked at it yet but the engine works great but it just won't move.
Thank you very much!
amazing and easy video - thank you!
You're very welcome!
Excellent and very helpful video! Thank you!
You're very welcome! Thank you.
Thank you! I have this same make/model lawnmower, and this looks super easy😁
You bet!
Worked like a charm...Thanks...my only issue was getting rhe cable off and back on. Gotta slide from the bottom to take off and insert that top into the notch and then slide the bottom on. Piece of cake amd thanks for the $$$ saved.
Glad it helped
Thanks for your tip.
Thanks! Watched another video first and was wondering what he tool the plastic crap off. Gonna do it your way.
Thank you
Very helpful and made this a breeze... Thank you!!!
Glad it helped!
saved me a ton of time! thank you.
You're welcome!
Great and easy explanation. Fixed mine

Great video, much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
....I started taking off the plastic shroud. Then, thought to look up a video. THANK YOU!
Glad I could help!
Very nicely done video!! Thanks sir!!
Glad you liked it! Thank you.
Thank you! Now I can replace my belt when needed! Praise the Lord!
Thanks, worked like a charm.
Glad it helped
Thanks
Awesome video!!! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
You are the man. Great video
I appreciate that!
Wow you made it so simple for novices like myself. Have you seen smoke coming out of transmission when you engage self propelled lever? Self propel control has gotten a little stiff. I can mow without engaging the self propelled lever just fine but when I do use it there is smoke coming from the back left hand side where the transmission is. you have any idea what is wrong?
Great video. Only real issue I had was socket wouldn't fit over hub bolt--had to remove blades. Hub didn't "slide" off as easy as yours. Impact wrench a must. Pay attention feeding belt back through to center to not get a twist in it. Should be obvious if you do; belt probably won't go onto center pulley unless you really really force it 🙂
Thank you
Thank you wonderful video
So nice of you
Simply put perfect
Thank you!
Excellent work thank Sr
Thank you too!
Thank you 👍
Thank you sir!
Thanks!
Welcome!
Found a piece of wood stuck between pully and belt. Now working. But now I know how to replace belt if needed.
Same except it was a rock for me.
Very simple. The easiest way so far.
Thank you
Thank you.
You're welcome! Thank you
Hi there. Thanks to your video I was able to replace my belt. Only problem is, that wasn’t the issue. It seems that the belt is too loose. I noticed some damage on the old belt and thought that might be the issue but it looks like it’s not that. I didn’t see an obvious way to tighten the tension, any idea what I could do or check to fix it? Thanks
genius level!
Thank you
Thanks 😊
You're welcome!
Great video..thanks
Thank you !
Excellent! Don't have to scatter the whole mower. Brains wins again
Hey, I was just working on one. I didn't know you didn't have to take the transmission all the way out anyway while I was working on mine I put everything back together and tested it was working fine and later during the day I went to start it up again and the right side wheel wasn't spinning any clue why?
You are good
Lol. Thank you.
thanks
Welcome
Directions were perfection!! Thank you
You are so welcome! Thank you!
@@IFIXIT4U I'm still having an issue after replacing the belt. The self propell wants to engage but wont. It smells like burning rubber and my engine sounds like it wants to stall out
@@CleveIndians Sounds like your transmission may be locked up. The pulley on it should spin easy. Not common but it does happen.
@@IFIXIT4U thank you
SOLID, very efficient labor reduction .
Thank you
Great thanks no plastic removal
Great video. Thank you for the links too🍺. The ole 'Ho' sure needs a lil bathin' though.
Thanks for watching!
My mower today became very hard go press and engage the the self propel. If i tried it i would smell a rubber burning smell. Should i attempt this repair or is it something else?
Just one tip: if you reach under there and the belt won’t move then it’s either pinched in the pulley, off the pulley, has a stick stuck, etc. You should be able to turn the belt easily using your hands.
Can you show us how to adjust the drive engage cable? Sometimes the wheels spin buy stop when they hit the ground.
I will do a video on that when I get time. Thanks.
Great video! Im having an issue where the mower squeaks when i use the self propell any clues on what it could be? Thanks!
Hmmmm... Did you have a mouse in your pocket? Lol. I would take a oil squirt can and oil your wheel bearings, axles and anything that moves. Thank you sir.
Are mowers these days just garbage? I think i paid almost 500 dollars for this mower at home depot. I have only had it only 2 years. Half acre i cut. Every two weeks in spring and summer. Carb has already gummed up that i had to fix and now the self propel is out. Never had a mower i have to fix so much. Thank you for the video. It is very helpful.
I’ve had mine since 2016 and no issues. I use ethanol free gas though
Some states only sell fuel with ethanol now, it's terrible for small engines
Trick for the carb is to run it out of gas at the end of the summer for winter storage. Start the mower, turn the fuel valve off on the side to cut gas from going to the carb. Let it run till it dies. Try and restart and do that till it won't restart. Then dump the remaining fuel out of the mower. Then go ahead and store it.
For the self propelled I'm not sure as I have never had an issue from it. I find these Honda are abit slower then I like though.
Your a good nieghbor!
Thank you
you're a bad man as in good !
Thank you
Hola, buen dia.
Yes. Honda has a problem with the cam on this engine. Honda will fix it under warranty. Contact your local authorized Honda mower service center as soon as possible. Thank you.
On my HRX217 the belt runs between the mulch/bag lever. I can't remove/install a new belt without finding a way to remove that. Any suggestions?
I did one of those the other day. Completely different animal. Yes you will have to remove some of the plastic parts etc. Not any easy job but its not complicated either. Good luck.
what size is the belt
I cannot get the blade hub assembly to come loose from the shaft.
And, the cable won't come off of the transmission arm either. You must have already had it apart just before you made this video. Any tips to get the hub off and the cable off as you did?
Soak it with penetrating fluid like WD-40. Sometimes it happens. A small cheap puller may get it off. Good luck.
I can’t seem to get the whole blade assembly off. I pull the blades off and the bracket they are attached to doesn’t slide off. Any suggestions? Going to try pb blaster and a rubber mallet.
Couldn't get mine off either, was able to rotate the blade brackets to free the belt. Now I've got to figure out how to get the best that changes from mulch to bag out of the way
I got the blades off and started messing with getting new belt on. Realized some mulch was the culprit, but I already cut the belt off. Pb blaster and a rubber mallet got the rest of the assembly off!
I can't get the (hub) {the device that the blade screw into) to release from the rod. I used heat, rubber hammer etc... Any suggestions?
Same here, did you end up figuring out how to?
Great video! I have a HŔR216 that has the same tranny. I had no idea how to get of that pulley. I saw on other models that had 2 bolts. How about the tranny. Do we need to change at any time? What fluid DOES it take? Thanks. Sub'd & gave u a 👍
I would check with Honda specs for exact oil type for your specific model. Some take 20w50 some take 10w30 some might take other. Thank you.
I never see anyone grease the shaft before installing the blade adapter. They rust and is hard to remove the blade adapter. Will defenitely do it like you showed us.
Great idea. Thank you.
Your video is so good but I can’t get that center bolt off! I’ve tried with my drill and with a socket wrench and that thing won’t budge. Tried wd40 and still having no luck. Do you have any suggestions? I know I could do it if I could just get the bolt off!! 😭
I use a DeWalt DCF894 Impact. Thank you. See the video. th-cam.com/users/shorts3xfg017Sumo?si=rviG26c-Nx3K0z-U
The center bolt that’s holding the blade and everything on is not coming off. I’m turning it but it’s freely spinning without coming off. Can you help? Thank you.
Try taking the 2 blade bolts (14mm) off and see if that helps. Thank you.
We have had our Honda for about 6 months now and the belt seems extremely loose...if I lift wheels off and engage transmission wheels will spin but not enough torque to
pull when on ground...would this not be covered in Honda warranty at least send you a new belt?
Most OEMs will not warranty belts because they are normal wear parts. Going back to the place of purchase for help asap when a problem comes up is your best chance. They may cover the belt if there was another issue causing the belt to slip. Like a bad engage cable or stuck wheels etc. Thank you and good luck.
I did mine the hard way.
Did you drain gas and oil before putting the mower in that position?
If you follow the instructions in the video you do not need to drain the gas and oil. Thank you.
I have the same mower
Wow. So they made 2 ? Lol. Thank you.
My blade and bracket won’t wiggle off that easy.
Mine won't either.
I had to use a flathead screwdriver to pry it off
What about the spring on gearbox
No need to touch the spring on the gearbox to do this job. If it falls off for some reason. Put it back on. Done 4 of these this week. Spring never fell off. Thank you
@@IFIXIT4Umy spring fell off both sides. Where does the other end connect to?
I would put grease on that adapter. You were lucky to remove it by hand.
Good idea. Thank you
@@IFIXIT4U I don't know why they don't grease pulleys and adapters when they assemble them at the factory.
What is the belt size??? My was shredded inside the mower and I have no idea the belt size...I bought a 21" but it's way too short
We only use the Honda OEM part for this mower. Aftermarket belts sold by size do not work well on this mower. Thank you.
How often should I replace the belt?
When the wheels stop pulling. Thank you.
@@IFIXIT4U Also, having a tough time getting the flange nut to tighten back on to the transmission holding drive belt pulley together....any hints?
3:08 in the video shows you how to tight and loosen nut. Thank you
I can't seem to get the cable hooked back on lol
Try hooking the cable on before new belt is on engine pully. You will have more movement in trans. Thank you.
@@IFIXIT4U no luck. Ended up snatching the cable out of the deck. Way to much tension.
@@SwagEverlasting Not sure what is different about yours. Never had that issue.
Great work easy to follow nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
@@IFIXIT4U Very welcome
Nice video. Ty
Thanks
