Is The Base Shelby GT500 The One You Want To Get?

- The Shelby GT500 is one of the iconic badges in the history of cars. The history and the heritage behind it and the association with Carole Shelby make it even cool. So this latest version of the Shelby GT500 is the best one so far and the one I have in this video is the base trim with the standard seats, wheels, tires, and aero.
The GT500 is available in two main trim packages. The base and a carbon fiber track package add on which makes it racier and much more expensive. After driving the carbon fiber equipped GT500 I always wondered what the base one would drive like. Would it be good enough to drive on the daily basis. Does it still look cool without the big aero pieces.
Overall, regardless of the base vs track package discussion, the GT500 is such a cool car that we will most likely miss when its gone. With rumors of the newest version of the Mustang eventually getting some type of electrification, I think its inevitable that the GT500 will get it too. But, beyond that, is the base version of the GT500 the one you really want to get? We're going to find out!

What do you think of the Shelby GT500!
At 5:55 it sounds like American muscle
When they see SE edition 825hp or code Red 1300 TT change the opinion fast
@@namename1 SE edition? What's the full name you're referring to would like to know more. thx
@@deepin2u Signature Edition. It's offered by Shelby American, they upgrade your car's looks and customize it, I believe only 100 made per model year (2020-2022)
@@jds1342 Muchas Gracias señor !!
Really enjoyed your video. I have a 2020 GT500 and love it. It drives so well and is very fast.
An excellent presentation of my favorite American Sports Car! Well done Sir! 😮
Awesome Review! Just came across your channel
Spot on review
Thank you boss
I will be getting one soon
Love this spec but prefer a manual. The new S650 Shelby Super Snake is my dream. Identifying magnesium shift paddles as plastic is quite the diss lol.
Edit : Your presentation is superb brother.
👍
In normal mode, keeping up with traffic, I get 18 to 20 mpg.
Easily...ram jamming gas mileage goes down of course
Cant wait to get one 😏
I still very new to mine, but sport steering seemed to mostly eliminate the tramlining that I had in normal mode. I live in PA; we have some very bad roads and highways.
Also, mpg is only horrible if your foot is heavy (which is most of the time for me), but I have averaged 20-23mpg on the highway . Better than my wife's 2013 Ford Edge.
But this one hell of a fun car to drive!!
Enjoy....still one of my favorites
Love the channel man. How does this compare to the zl1 1le for fuel mpg and in general? I ordered the zl1 1le due to the manual trans.
They're both pretty terrible with gas. Getting the zl1 1le with the manual is a great choice
Nice. I would go with a zl1 1le too for the manual but I already have a GT350 so GT500 for me. I have drive a ZL1 and that thing is no joke. Super quick!!
10:15 ... 'Simple, Easy to use' ... yet your pinch to shrink several times and the screen is not responding quick enough and NOT to all inputs. The ONLY thing I'd replace on either the GT-350 or GT-500 would be that screen to something more modern that fully supports 120hz or higher multi-touch. The UI I'd keep but the screen NEEDS to be replaced.
thanks so much for the review. i am going to get one, still debating on the base or the carbon fiber track pack. any other suggestions would be helpful. thank you!
What are you going to use it for?
@@DriveSteady for now street use, and actually i may take my young kid in a car seat so now im thinking im forced on the base. i just really like the spoiler, Lol, i know sounds dumb but i love the spoiler on the track pack.
You can can the base and put a wing on it. Also the base is much better for the street.
@@DriveSteady thank you. subscribed to you as well. So is the track pack just better at the track?
I would frame it as the base is just better for the street because the seats are more comfortable, they're heated and cooled too. Plus the suspension is more compliant. The track pack is sharper handling wise, but you won't notice that much of a difference on the road.
That baby wants to be driven in " Steve McQueen" Mode. 🤣
How is it for long drives, say, 200+ miles or longer?
Didn't drive it that much but I would imagine it would be just fine
I drove about 1,200 from NC to TX and then back two months later. Going was harder on my back than coming back. I got progressively stiffer in the lower back and hips, which I felt every time I got out to fuel up. Coming back wasn't as bad as heading to TX, but I still felt it.
You feel all of the steering wheel and seat vibration from the ride quality. The suspension is stiffer than the Dodge hellcat vehicles, even while driving in normal mode.
Thanks for the feedback
I got a 2016 GT350… debating on getting one of these for my “daily” I work remote so don’t really commute 😂
I just might miss the manual and the Voodoo
Can't go wrong either way. I'm bias, I say you'll miss the gt350. But the gt500 is unbelievable.
I’m glad I got the 2021 GT500 before they stopped making them, but I kept my 2017 GT350 too.
Good choice
Nice fun car but simply way too expensive for me at over $100k! If I win the Lottery…
Just get a used one for 80k
@@eriklopez7955 - $80k! Such a deal!!
@@rembo183 20 k is a big difference
@@eriklopez7955 - true …but I’m not spending $80k for a Mustang on steroids. I’ll get a nice lightly used Porsche Cayman when the market gets realistic.
@@eriklopez7955 - Heavy powerful loud muscle cars are fun but I prefer light and nimble sports cars. Les than 3,000 Lbs if possible not 4,000 or more. Plus a manual transmission is more fun with a very light tossable car.
Short answer, no.
I traded my gt350 to get a gt500 and then sold it to get my gt350 back lol
Not surprised
Damn ... must've been hard on the initial upgrade finances. If you sold after announcement no more GT500 then you profited nicely.
@@deepin2u I did but it was not the plan… I just wanted to get back into a gt350 that was not overpriced…
Nobody should take that car on a long trip.
Cry about it garage queen. Give it to someone who appreciates cars and drives em😂😂
They’re built for drivers who love driving.
@princeminato Stick to your Honda civic, my man.
