    The fact that JLo and her team thought anybody would believe the secret to her timeless appearance is olive oil, and not the hundreds of thousands she’s spent on cosmetic procedures and therapies💀

      Everyone knew she was lying her butt off. Telling an interviewer that she doesn’t use Botox when her face barely moved.
      Olive oil is such a nothing ingredient, no one in her target age range wants an olive oil based skincare. We want science and results not JLo.

      This is the reason I feel like almost any celebrity skincare/cosmetic line is questionable. I'd look fabulous, too, if I had all of that work done, had my personal aestheticians, and makeup artists, hairdressers, personal chef and trainers.

    I find it sad that 11 year olds are not being children now. They are being mini adults and acting like they are 25 already. Your comment that at 11 you had £1 pocket money and bought sweets says it all. They are in Sephora buying hundreds of pounds of products. Childhood has been lost and replaced by consumerism and a need to be an adult already. Sad. And yes, I am an ‘ oldy’ compared to most. I had a childhood where I was innocent and was allowed to be a child before graduating to the adult world in mid to late teenage.

    • @ChrystalVanDusseldorp
      @ChrystalVanDusseldorp 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +68

      Children have always been the target of consumerism, but I agree about the wanting to look/act more grown-up. I think it's just shifted from the hot new toys or video games to play with to makeup and skincare.

    • @Crow_Smith
      @Crow_Smith 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +48

      I think it goes back to ... I wanna say what Robert said? Might've been James [I watch too much of their stuff so I don't remember who] where the issue is all the public spaces FOR KIDS are going away.
      Places that used to be available for kids to go be kids don't really exist, spaces for kids that still do, don't exist for the right age group. A kid you're basically either doing "stuff for babies" or "stuff for teenagers/adults" there is no "we're not babies still learning our alphabet, colors and shapes, but we're not yet teenagers going through body changes" space anymore. And that pretty much they only have fully grown influencers or teenagers to look to so of course they're trying to mimic them because they're just not allowed to be kids anymore.
      I mean hell look how many people go "Oh it's a Video Game/Cartoon, that's for kids" and dump stuff that is DEFINITELY NOT FOR KIDS to kids, but in the same breath are the type to think even the most basic stuff made for the "Tween" age is "too adult" so they want to stick them with younger kids stuff. A lot of play grounds and "Fun spaces" are geared toward under 10, to the point of actually limiting heights and ages to keep older kids out. Where are the spaces for "11 year olds" ?
      I mean look at places like Chuck E Cheese - they're geared more and more and more toward little little kids, but places like Dave and Busters are adults, where are the places like Craigs Cruisers [A Michigan place but I'll explain]? Places with mini golf, go karts, an arcade with games that give tickets for actually good prizes meant for older kids? And at roughly the same price point? A lot of places like that don't exist or have seriously changed. In my local area there were 2 when I moved here like, 5 years ago, that catered to "All ages" and had a decent spread so parents with kids from like 5 - 19 had stuff to do. I looked at one recently for a friend coming to visit and, the one took out anything "Dangerous" except their minigolf but the minigolf is now fully dino themed and the only "Scary" dino is the one facing the road. The water is now an obnoxious cartoon blue, the sky walk thing they had has the zipline area closed [not seen it open in ages] and the other place is like "Unless accompanying someone under 13, no one over 13 is allowed". Legit just cut teens out of the picture, and are pretty much a smaller arcade and super safe rides for little kids. [And looking at their height cut offs, even 11-13 is too big for 80% of their rides]. Heck I don't even see many places with laser tag anymore, at least not that allow kids. It seems like laser tag is more and more considered "too dangerous for kids!".
      "Family Friendly" is starting to mean "exclusively for families with very small children" - and with malls not doing so well, a lot have put things in like Saturn 9 Arcades - so malls are becoming like the only place for "Not quite little kids, but definitely not teenagers" to hang out - so what else are they to do?

      Not long ago children worked in factories from Single digit age on.
      Having a childhood is a pretty New concept in human history.
      A lot of people don't care about child marriage in some countries because "It's their culture".
      And children are supposed to learn about gender identity in Kindergarten.
      So what is it now?

      @@skelly0000Yeah but experts are saying that the skincare they're using is actually not good for them. And they could be doing damage to their skin they might regret by the time they hit the age where they should be STARTING routines.
      I'm a 90s baby, and they had "Spa day" stuff for kids, and it was all super safe basic lotions, bubble bath and the like. So you could "Do like mommy/big sister" with the spa stuff but you weren't risking your skin. [Well you probably were a little bit with some of that stuff since who knows how safe it was, but it didn't have all these exfoliants and stuff like the stuff the kids are buying now.]

    As a former Body Shop employee, good riddance. They treat their employees like garbage and refuse to innovate. They're all about green washing that consumers aren't falling for anymore. They say things like "community trade" instead of "fair trade" and those tactics don't trick people anymore. They also brag about paying a living wage when I was only being paid 50 cents above minimum wage as the team leader. If you aren't going to pay living wage, you're not obligated to, but why are you saying you are when not even the store manager was making $40k/year? I take so much joy in the stores closing.

      I have only ever been to a body shop store once, and all I really got was one of the body yogurts. It was okay, the fragrance was so strong, and the product itself took a bit to really sink in. I just remember the girl who was guiding me seemed very knowledgeable about the products I was looking at, I did not know you guys were treated so poorly :(
      The only thing I would maybe want to buy from them is this strawberry perfume I got to smell in the store, but yeah pretty much everything else wasn't super interesting to me. Also they had an online sale once that caught my attention but it was so confusing and I barely understood what was going on anymore so I ended up buying nothing.

Advertising with the television and other platforms (fast food, ‘junk food’s toys, etc) because of the vulnerability of children to advertising. If I discover that brands I really love start targeting advertising to young people in questionable ways, I’ll definitely lose some respect. Never thought I’d defend Rhode but Nudestix needs to calm down. Firstly, unless they patented the design of the component they have no right to say that Rhode is trying to copy them. There are so many brands that purchase the component and add their product and brand info on it to save money because custom packaging is expensive af. Secondly, not everyone uses or likes Nudestix formula. Same idea but different formula and claims. People need to stop being so surface-level in their criticism and wait until the product launches before making comments. You know what they say about assumptions…

    I loved working at the Body Shop in Oregon in the 90s. I started out as a part time employee, but still got health insurance, which in the US was and still is unheard of. The employee discount was massive and we got paid to to do community service or volunteer work. I did some work for an animal shelter and found one of the biggest loves of my life, Lucy Fur, aka Fatty, a very special Russian Blue/British Shorthair. When I became manager of my own shop, during the holiday season, we had a day where all employees were encouraged to come to work in drag. I was so happy and relieved that a handful of staff joined me and we had so much fun. One of my employees got picked to go to work at an orphanage in Romania and had an amazing experience. I purchased many Nudestix products and to be honest, they are nothing special and certainly nothing new. Don't get me wrong, I found many products to be decent, but as I said they are not pioneers. The fact that they think they "own" the stick format of cosmetic products is ridiculous. The shade and the packaging is also nothing new, so I have no idea what they are going on about.

    the body shop was so popular here in Indonesia! but as the local beauty and skincare industry grew the past few years, people are slowly leaving the body shop 'cause the products are just slightly more expensive for more people here :/ and you're right, they're just as innovative as they used to be. i don't have the statistics but more and more people prefer to purchase local products and/or asian products in general.

    there was a body shop across the hall from a smaller skincare store at the mall in my city, and both of them are closing down sometime this month. i only shopped at the smaller store (they had really good shampoo bars, i bought like 3 to stockpile until i can find somewhere else that sells shampoo bars), and found out they were closing because rent was going up and assumed it was the same case for the body shop too. never would have guessed such a major brand would actually be struggling to the point of having to close stores down, but i guess it's not 2013 anymore...

    The Rhode blush stick is probably a lab sample, and not the final packaging. Nudestix is just jealous because nobody talks about them anymore, so they are doing this for attention. Their formulas suck and I have the Cherry Blossom Babe blush stick. It’s not an original shade at all, it’s greasy and gross feeling on the cheeks.

    The Body Shop hasn't released anything exciting in the last 10 years. I really liked their Bouncy Sleep mask and the Vitamin E face sorbet, both released around 2014. I also liked their annual summer scents, Virgin Mojito is my no. 1 favorite shower gel.
    For as long as I have known The Body Shop, they have brought back discontinued products and marketed them as new releases. For example: 1. the cherry shower gel they had for Christmas last year was an old summer scent, so was the lemon scent they had a while back, 2. the "brand new" spa series they released around 2011 were *all* discontinued products, gone for only a few years, back with new names and new packaging. I even had a few of the last range to compare with, they were identical.

It was so hard to find someone to help us because of all the children that were in there, when we finally got an employee to help us and check us out, she told us how the last person she helped was an 11 year old who had a major credit card and ended up spending $1300 on makeup!! Like wtf?! I wish I was there to hear that convo with her parents lol but seriously why are 6th graders buy foundation and eyeshadow

    The body shop could do so well if they actually kept up with market trends. If they sold themselves as a clean beauty store with fragrance free, silicone free, cruelty free products and had lines of products with hyaluronic acid, niacinimide, etc they'd be killing it. Noones interested in tea tree oil or heavily perfumed products anymore which is why they're dying

    I bought almost exclusively from TBS for years. They would have amazing promotions, rewards, coupons, and you could get their product for next to nothing. Really... their products don't contain expensive ingredients and they've had the same formulas for decades, so why are they so expensive now? They used to do the BEST gift bags at the holidays with hundreds of $$ of product for under $50. Several different bath products with various scents, skin care, makeup... that's how they sold their new ranges. Those bags sold out in hours and allowed customers to try products they may never have taken a chance on. Shoot. Their Absinthe and Hemp lines were the BOMB and I would never have tried them! And their basic skincare was perfect for people under 40. They screwed up a really great thing.

    I worked at Sephora for abut two years and I saw a total of three people buy J Lo beauty for themselves and two men buy it for their wives for Christmas. Really it was never going to sell to younger demographics. The primary floor workers who are around 18-30 where never going to recommend the products becuase there are other brands ay better price points that do more for mature skin and it was just not something that they would think about. Also they never sent in brand reps to sell. I thinks that why a brand like beauty bio, where at one point we had a rep in every week from Thursday to Sunday can exist in Sephora. It gets people exited about the brand in a way that an honest employee how as a whole store to sell cannot.
