It's very telling that there are legit famous celebs who very rarely get papped despite going out in public doing their human things. Like, there are celebs who get posted more by random civilians/fans using potato cameras from 700 miles away than by paps. It shows that it is POSSIBLE for just about any celeb to avoid being papped for most part (not totally, but still), which means most who do get papped do it on purpose (like calling the paps to themselves or gping where they know paps are hanging out).
Paparazzi got replaced by street style photographers. People like seeing beautiful people and the genre evolved accordingly, that's why we have social media influencers, as well. Photoshopping "candid" photos is super weird, but that's the Kardashians for you.
And yes, common knowledge that pr teams let paparazzi know where their clients will be or the stars themselves let them know. But it still amazing how many people *don't* know this. So it's good that you're covering this matter to educate all of us. And some do this to placate the paparazzi and giving them photos to leave them alone. It's a weird twist and who really knows.
Great vid as always! In order to take back control of their lives, totally understand working with the paps and not against them. Love what the Kardashian did, makes sense from a business perspective for sure. Miles Diggs aka Diggzy is an amazing photog, look at the quality of those shots! Ending on those Hillary Duff orange staged pics had me laughing so hard.
I can see that. They’re kind of like the cooky crazie aunt and uncle. The ones you won’t ask life or financial advice from but the first ones you call for a good time.
My early 2000s-US Weekly buying self loves this type of video! I haven’t read one of those magazines for years but this has filled a nostalgic need I didn’t know I had. 😂
I just cannot imagine spending my one trip to this planet doing this smh. Spending your day, pretending to have people want to take pictures of you. Wow talk about a waste of a life.
I recall that when she was engaged to Charles she told them that if they left her alone when she went for a walk with the kids she was looking after, at the end of the walk she would look up and give them a good shot.
Very interesting video James! Really good Britney Spears in her new autobiography "The Woman in Me" talks about how paparazzi would never leave her alone, no matter how many pictures they took of her. Two very scary moments she had were when she had just given birth to both of her children, each time she had to look out the window to see how many paparazzi she would have to deal with, and by everytime she looked there would be even more. The paparazzi suffocated her and would not let her breathe, specially in her hardest moments. If i were a celebrity and the paparazzi were suffocating me id keep running away from them no matter what, but if they were two or three yea id let them have my pic if that meant theyd leave me alone, could even be an added task of the day for me if the pap number didnt increase and the situation didnt repeat throughout the day On a side note i 1000% recommend britneys book i cant recommend it enough. Its her own story, *in her own terms* . She suffered so much throughout the years, and she endured it all and got out of a very, *very* corrupted conservationship, flawed from the start and most importantly *unjustified* . So give it a try if you want, her story is very interesting and shes a very lovely person
My brain still refuses to accept the fact that Justin Beiber isn't eternally 12 years old. It just feels wierd to imagine he is an adult and married xD
That’s not necessarily true. Beyoncé is known for hating the media and hiding from paparazzi to the point where she almost never get paparazzi’d and her children are well hidden for years at a time. Celebrities make the choice to be seen even when caught off guard bc those “off guard” situations are 90% planned unlike the 90s and 2000s. Very few celebrities who’s image is worth enough money to be stalked are actually paparazzi’d. People forget celebrities have the resources and money to stay private.
My favorite paparazzi shot is when Avril Lavigne pretended to be pregnant to get back at the paparazzi. She had a fake baby bump that she wore out and then the next time she made a public appearance she didn’t look pregnant at all and proved she pranked them.
I can’t imagine that people don’t already know that. it’s surprises me when I see these TikTok videos of people who are surprised or think it’s news that celebrities call the paparazzi and let them know where they’re going to be or have the final say on which pictures are released to the public. How do they figure that every picture that’s released is perfect.
Justin Bieber seems to be the ONLY celebrity who never called these paps and you actually see the pain in his eyes everytime he see them sticking camera in his face and following him
Beyoncé almost never gets paparazzi’d and her kids are seen even less. Adele too. Her kid is almost never seen. They’re very few celebs that don’t call pap’z and they are almost always the more seasoned celebrities with families.
I’d just not live in Hollywood so I’m out of the public eye when not working on a project or collab or brand deal. Though that’s predicated on being an A-lister. So as an up and coming, I’ll work with them to keep them off my back.
I used to live for celebrity gossip. 😂 Looking back so so much was clearly staged, or preplanned at least. But I fell for it. And so did so many people to be fair. I feel like celebs are smart to keep the paparazzi on side.
Thank you for talking about this subject. This was very interesting to learn about. I hadn’t thought about celebrities actually staging their paparazzi shoots. I think I agree with you in that I would rather give them the time to do their thing and be relaxed about it. 😊
I am glad if there are less paparazzi, that just seems really abusive to me to follow people everywhere trying to get photos of them. But faking them is just sad.
I began to realize these were setup by the “celebrity” themselves when I kept seeing C and D-List celebs appearing on Daily Mail, People, etc websites doing super uninteresting things like walking their dog or getting coffee. It must be hard to stay relevant. It’s funny but Hilary Duff is one of the ones I noticed this about first, and her sister Haley.
I don’t know if it’s still a thing but back in 2010 people would hire “paparazzi” to take pics of them at night clubs and parties. This was of course early influencer days lol but I’ll never forget being at a club in Denver and seeing a group of nobodies being photographed like they were famous (and no it wasn’t a bachelorette party or anything like that). It was hilarious and weird and sad all the same time.
I would love a follow up re the effects of photoshopped pap photos on viewers who think celebrities genuinely look "like that" because it is a pap photo, not a selfie ❤
I'd prob do like the Beibers--let them get a few good shots to be left alone, here in the US. I've read Prince Harry's book--the UK paps sound absolutely terrifying. idk what I'd do there.
There used to be a business - I am sure more than one - That was owned by the paparazzi somewhere in Hollywood where 'stars' would go to be photographed for the likes of the National Enquirer. A new article would follow along with a story about such, and such went shopping that day. Usually the 'star' held their hand up to their face as though warding off the photographers, they already knew were there. It was pretty funny and silly.
The Kardashian’s thing is absolutely true, seen it everywhere for years. Most of the Kardashians paps are paid - they’re called Splash News. Ever since, they’ve used their own paid paps that follow them round, they also photoshop all images before going out, so that’s why they all freak out whenever a real unphotoshopped photo is posted. In fact, one of their main photographers blocked me after I called him out for it, if I remember his insta handle I’ll drop it, he blocks anyone that calls him out 😂. It was immediate as well that he did it! Pretty sure he could well be her ‘personal photographer’ as he solely posts photos of them
Backgrid photos are usually sent in to the Backgrid agency from a third person, frequently a personal photographer hired by the "celebrity," so that it keeps up the pretense of being in demand with the paps.🙄
Because he was a rebound She used him to end her then relationship with Calvin Harris They stayed together for a bit then she moved on to the man she really wanted, who was Joe Alwyn
I think this makes a really interesting situation though because I agree with them getting more of a choice over their lives and privacy but then if they are editing and selecting the photos they want we aren’t really having as much access to the raw unfiltered versions of them so may increase internalisation’s of unrealistic beauty and living standards

It always felt like Paparazzi was trying to catch the most unflattering images of celebrities on purpose to stir up the pot.
I truly think this is the celebrities taking back control of this out of control situation.
IVE NEVER SEEN that lucy hale photo set i am actually dying dead done that is SO FUNNY
I ALWAYS carry a brand new mascara that way! 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, let me just put on even more mascara, instead of starting with a fresh face! 🤗
Heidi "crying" 😂😂 Thank you for this laugh
Hahahahaha oh I believe it. It's a little known secret that celebrities will leak their location.
Unpopular opinion, I like Heidi and Spencer as a 36-year old. I get the game they played during the Hills.
I can see that. They’re kind of like the cooky crazie aunt and uncle. The ones you won’t ask life or financial advice from but the first ones you call for a good time.
@@bettyrose1347 Absolutely! The ones everyone judged but now you vibe with cause you’re also in your villain era.
That gives insight to the whole phrase, “Make sure you get my good side.” It’s the side they told them to photograph when no one was listening. 🙄 lmao
4:25 that dog is SOOO little!
The photos from Miles are incredible! Gorgeous shots :D
I wonder if Princess Diana was alive today if she had the option to give them a few minutes a day to then leave her alone :(
The british royal family has had that kind of arrangement with the press. The press didn't honour it in the case of Diana (and Fergie).
I recall that when she was engaged to Charles she told them that if they left her alone when she went for a walk with the kids she was looking after, at the end of the walk she would look up and give them a good shot.
Unlike Harry and Meghan. They want to be "left alone" by the paparazzi, yet every paparazzi shot is staged to the nth degree!
(South Park, anyone?)!!
Probably not. Charles had her killed.
@@Stopthisrightnow560 and that is slander/libel.
It's so funny to think, these images don't mean a fraction of what they used to. None of us read the gossip magazines anymore.
Paparazzi being called by the person or their people to have pics taken has gone on for ages. But this is just next level.
Very interesting video James! Really good
Britney Spears in her new autobiography "The Woman in Me" talks about how paparazzi would never leave her alone, no matter how many pictures they took of her. Two very scary moments she had were when she had just given birth to both of her children, each time she had to look out the window to see how many paparazzi she would have to deal with, and by everytime she looked there would be even more. The paparazzi suffocated her and would not let her breathe, specially in her hardest moments.
If i were a celebrity and the paparazzi were suffocating me id keep running away from them no matter what, but if they were two or three yea id let them have my pic if that meant theyd leave me alone, could even be an added task of the day for me if the pap number didnt increase and the situation didnt repeat throughout the day
On a side note i 1000% recommend britneys book i cant recommend it enough.
Ahh the Hills!!!! Need to rewatch that! You crack me up. Thank you so much for your content 😂
I think the celebrity has to choose between a staged photo shoot, or get hounded and busted with naughty behaviour.
People forget celebrities have the resources and money to stay private.
lmfaooo kellan lutz reading in a tree took me tf out 😂
he was amazing in the comeback on hbo. that show made me realize he’s actually a good actor.
My favorite paparazzi shot is when Avril Lavigne pretended to be pregnant to get back at the paparazzi. She had a fake baby bump that she wore out and then the next time she made a public appearance she didn’t look pregnant at all and proved she pranked them.
I told my friend I definitely think Rihanna calls the paparazzi on herself just so people see her outfits 🤭
Ahahah I love how open Heidi is about the photos, and she’s on a first name basis with the paparazzi. Basically besties making pics for the gram XD
James, I just want to say, I absolutely love yours and Roberts content. You're such a sweetheart and I can listen to you all day. ❤
As an Gen Xer, I can tell you Heidi started her career doing Laguna Beach. Love you content!
Imagine treating people with respect and succeeding! Good on Miles!
I'm Irish so I put my Fenty Beauty lipstick on in an Ulta carpark in Louisana. Not the same, I know!
If the Kardashians cared so much about fans posting pictures, just upload your own effing pictures.
I began to realize these were setup by the “celebrity” themselves when I kept seeing C and D-List celebs appearing on Daily Mail, People, etc websites doing super uninteresting things like walking their dog or getting coffee. It must be hard to stay relevant. It’s funny but Hilary Duff is one of the ones I noticed this about first, and her sister Haley.
kell lutz look hot af in those photos though lol
I don’t know if it’s still a thing but back in 2010 people would hire “paparazzi” to take pics of them at night clubs and parties. This was of course early influencer days lol but I’ll never forget being at a club in Denver and seeing a group of nobodies being photographed like they were famous (and no it wasn’t a bachelorette party or anything like that). It was hilarious and weird and sad all the same time.
I love that you tried so hard to stop yourself laughing out loud re Heidi!
Heidi's 2010's cringe paps is an iconic moment 😂
Lol wooo I lived The Hills back in the day! I hate that Heidi had all that work done on her face.
This is absolutely terrifying.
Imagine being so irrelevant you have to call the paparazzi to come photograph you. That's one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen.
I would love a follow up re the effects of photoshopped pap photos on viewers who think celebrities genuinely look "like that" because it is a pap photo, not a selfie ❤
OMG I am also secretly obsessed with this stuff! I feel so validated!! 😂
I'd prob do like the Beibers--let them get a few good shots to be left alone, here in the US. I've read Prince Harry's book--the UK paps sound absolutely terrifying. idk what I'd do there.
Hahahaa I opened this vid and said wow! Robert is feeling chipper today so I checked to see if it was actually James 😂
Loving your skin James!! 💜🖤
The last guy seems to be more of a street style photographer rather than a paparazzo, though.
Ah yes the Harkles only get photographed by Backgrid 😂
I'm a little bit sad that you didn't talk about Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston and their relationship that only existed in front of the paparazzi.
Because he was a rebound
She used him to end her then relationship with Calvin Harris
They stayed together for a bit then she moved on to the man she really wanted, who was Joe Alwyn
@@deaditeera It was way, WAY too public to have been a real relationship.
@@ellenkarlsson9490 well, she had an ulterior motive
so he was like a placeholder
that’s not really a relationship
I think this makes a really interesting situation though because I agree with them getting more of a choice over their lives and privacy but then if they are editing and selecting the photos they want we aren’t really having as much access to the raw unfiltered versions of them so may increase internalisation’s of unrealistic beauty and living standards
This was a great video for 4/20. Ended on such a heart warming note 🥰
Gasp, look at that glow 🌟 James you get more beautiful every day 💜💜
Thats hilarious thefirst one on the chair pretending to cry and 😂when she stands up
the way you keep cracking up is making me crack up more lmaooo
He really woke up that morning and thought "I am going to get up on a tree and read a book, while a paid paparazzi takes pictures"
i really think that’s what jb & hb do. i’ve seen videos of justin say he’ll willingly give them a few shots if they’ll leave him alone. kinda sad
Love the fact you ended with the oranges. Lol
Yeah, no. The idea that I couldn't post a picture of MYSELF is complete bonkers. I don't blame these celebrities at all.
Leaving aside rhe monetization, I'd rather be followed by someone known to me then have random dudes following me around. Less scary.
