For twenty years I have asked my neighbor to trim the trees which overhang my backyard and pool dropping leaves, seeds and branches four months out of the year. I have my guys do what they can but I can’t lawfully cut over on his property. I’ve tried everything including offering to pay for the tree trimming. He just says that I should have my pool cleaned more than once a week.
Last night, a monsoon took out the trees. I’ve waiting 20 years but my prayers have been answered.

I have a neighbor who has five or six enormous trees (30 foot plus) that are on his side of the poperty line but overhang my roof. I must constantly clean the debris and have paid thousands over the years to cut back what is on my side of the property line. He refuses to do anything. I had a lawyer write a letter saying he will be liable if there is any house damage or injury should one tree that is in very bad shape fall. A large limb snapped and was overhanging my roof right before an ice storm. Cost around $1000 to deal with. I showed my insurance company the letter, and they made his insurance company pay. Didn't cost me a penny.

I have the same problem but these are huge pine trees. All the grass is gone, it gets just muddy back of my house. I had to put up a fence to keep the dogs from going back there and tracking mud in the house. I call the neighbor grumpy. He also has huge dead trees in his yard that makes his property look so ugly but he mows all the time especially when we have company over and we are sitting outside trying to talk to each other. Yeah he's a grump.

I wish I could post on TH-cam the pictures of the tree limb hanging above my roof literally hours before an ice storm, and the guy in the huge bucket truck that had to be driven on to my lawn when the ground was muddy from late winter snow. And the pictures of him sawing off what was still holding the limb on to the tree while preventing it from sliding down the side of my house. And then the insurance adjuster came and saw everything with his own eyes, including the boundary stakes that I had put in to mark the property line. And he saw the wretched condition of this guy's property. And he was shocked. I don't know what dog you have in this fight that you have to say something like that.

Exactly!!!! Granted, it does look better, but that's not the point. Its not his. He should've only cut his side. The "height" is not his. There's a reason ppl like privacy shrubs/trees on their own property. It gives them privacy..

I don't usually comment like this on these kind of videos of someone doing this to a neighbor, but I just feel its wrong the extent he cut off the height and the sides..

Several years ago, I had my tree trimmed in the backyard. The guy that did the work said you're really generous. What's over her fence is her responsibility. I said well it is my tree."
I was told prior to this, what happens if a storm comes up and it falls on my fence? She said, "Well, I guess that's what insurance is for. I turned and walked away.
To trim both of my trees, one in front, too, cost $3000, she's still rude.

My mothers neighbour is a 90 yo woman who has TWO 7' hedges (abandoned one and built a fence in front of it) then planted a whole new hedge 7' again each hedge is about 3/4 ft deep. That woman is as fit as a fiddle at 90 gets up and cuts just what she can reach, which means all of the back of her original hedge overhangs by around 4' into my mothers garden and the top of it is only partially cut because she now can't reach it. This woman goes to church every Sunday - but she sure is not living a Christian life. I know my mother who is 84 can legally cut what's on her side of the borderline but the hedge is very mature and woody it would cost a great deal of money to get that work done so right now the neighbours property is actually on around 4 feet of my mothers garden.

You can legally trim hedges that come over your fence into your yard

That looks so much better, to bad the lazy homeowners couldn't do that. Nice job!😊

I live in Greenville SC. 5 big old trees, 3 ferns and two black oaks, are on county property bordering my front lawn. The right side of their branches hang over the electric lines, some are in-between. The othe side now reach half way across my front and side yard. They are about 50 feet tall, two are decaying from carpenter ants. The branches hang so low, my driveway is blocked. The dead branches also block my yard and the leaves just cover everything in the Fall. The county says what comes across the property line is my responsibility, and that Duke Electric has to do the other branches bc of the lines. I called Duke and was told to call the county. Then they added when the lines are pulled down by the branches, they'll come out and fix.
I'm 73 and went out last week with my little reciprocating saw and cut down everything I could and picked up the pile of dead branches. The pile was 5 feet high x 8 feet wide. Pics taken. Thank God, dept of sanitation removed it all. But there's still so much left. I should have stayed in Connecticut.

If somebody's going to plant bushes to get that width and height they should have started back 40 ft from the property line. You can't plant things right on the line people. Good job cutting them down neighbor❣️

@@JanicePeterson-hv4us yes indeed. They originally years back, never used common sense on the size width /height their little bushes at that time, would mature in size to. Honestly, when people don't plan, it serves them right for the trouble they'll catch from their neighbors. 👍

Did any of you notice that the fence is behind that hedge. That is either his hedge or he's trespassing in his neighbors yard......

We live in a very wooded neighborhood. So, of course, someone who doesn’t like trees moved in block over. After cutting down almost all of their own trees they didn’t like the line of birch going down their neighbors lot for the same reason - it blocked their sunlight. So they decided to just cut down those trees.
After the police visit and the lawsuit the court ordered them to replace every tree they cut own with one of “like size” or pay $15k per tree.
It cost them over $100k to replace all of the trees and they ended up selling the house to help cover the expense.

Right about the legal aspect...only can trim what's on your "side." But I get the frustration! I bet your arms were sore after that. Nice job anyway! 🌞

I’m letting mine grow that tall too. My neighbor has about 10 palm trees in his backyard right up against the fence. So i don’t think he’ll care.😊

He was ok and in the right up to when he started cutting over the neighbors yard. He can go straight up but not over. What ever falls/grows/leans on your side of the property line is open game.
