Glad you like it :-) To me it just sounds like they put the mic too far away and opened up the compression to get her voice back. Many sound engineers today think that compression = good sound, without actually having a clue how a microphone works.
The song is utterly beautifull but the recording of the piano and expecially her voice... is just... well I think it's horrible.

I like a little bit of the hammer and pedal sound, but here's it's too loud and there's that awful squeak coming from somewhere.

Absolutely love how some of Victoria's notes are so delicate that they're almost a whisper. Also really like how the piano sounds - gives it kind of a Tom Waits ballad vibe.

I never really listened to the lyrics of this song until now... and whoa. the delicateness of the vocals and instrumentation just makes me feel the vulnerability of being a teenager and wanting to feel noticed and special to someone.

Sometimes, even though I've been a musician my whole life, I don't realize brilliant songwriting until I hear a cover that's radically different from the original. This is one of those songs. Just an incredibly beautiful song, arrangement, and performance. Damn...

I really like the warm analog sound of the piano, including the mechanical noises that come from an old instrument like this.
I actually found the squeeky piano inmensely annoying and distracting from the great delicate voice. Shows how tastes can differ :-) all is good in music.

It's quite brilliant, isn't it? Sometimes inspiration just strikes out of the blue, and it clearly struck Wheatus when they wrote this song.
It was the Ukulele Orchestra version from 2009 that did it for me. Same feels. Look it up.
Wow, I didn't know her before but her voice has everything. It's SO bright and clear up top with a beautiful rub down lower and control on the delicate parts. I love that she doesn't shy away from the edge where her drops off. Perfect cover all around.

I first discovered Victoria when she was touring and writing with Michael Franti. She's a BEAUTIFUL BEAN. It warms my heart to see she's arrived ... at stories.
Victoria's voice sounds like someone would need to strain themselves to hit each note. Victoria actually singing looks like it is just another one of her senses, like breathing. One of the most beautiful covers I've ever heard. The type of cover that changes the meaning of a song with the same lyrics.

I see a lot of acoustic covers of this song from up and rising artists like phoebe bridgers and lizzy mcalpine and idk if I can attribute it to this rendition. Such a revolutionary cover that even the meaning of "teenage dirtbag" changed (at least for me). Props to the idea of the arrangement and execution of self-expression of the artists behind this cover (including the sound people/engineers responsible for capturing the subtle and raw details of the performance).

what an amazing voice from the woman on piano! Honestly blew me away as soon as she opened the song.
I played this cover the first time while eating so I wasn't really paying full attention. The girls voice and beautiful piano chords really touched me. So I had to play it again to watch and listen properly. Second time round I just notice her right arm. That's when a tear fell down my eye and I had a lump in my throat. I've now subscribed to her channel. Victoria is an inspiration.
