I miss the poem at the end of the studio version. I get chills when i hear him say "breathe deep, the gathering gloom. Watch lights fade from every room".
Back in the day we had these things called slow sets. This was when the DJ in clubs played a selection of slow songs, and we got to dance (smooch!) up close and personal with the girls we fancied (and vice versa when it was "ladies choice"). Whiter Shade of Pale was a popular slow set song (along with songs like Jesamine, Je T'aime and Unchained Melody) which is one of the reasons so many oldsters like myself have such positive and strong associations with it. And of course it was a great song that resonated perfectly with the psychedelic, surrealistic zeitgeist of the time.
This was a major hit song in 1967 by Pro-coal Hair-um. You have obviously reacted to a later version, but lead singer Gary Brooker still has a great voice all these years later.
Great reaction, thank you. I seen them live by accident while walking around Hollywood Ca.one Saturday night in the 70's.. I saw their name on the marquee of a small theater, I paid if I remember $4 or so to get in. I was maybe 50 feet way from the stage. Very small place only 200+ people very intimate setting they were fantastic!
BEAUTIFUL! Step 1 - Orchestra prelude Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir “A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single ❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022 *PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things”, but the legend tells that was a Burmese Blue cat, that belonged to a friend of the band and that he lived until 1972. The cat’s name was actually Procul Harun, but the cat’s name was misspelled.
That performance was near 40 yrs after the song was released. And I do remember this one well. For it received a good bit of play time on the radio back then; mid 60's to early 70's.
Procol Harum is my favourite Progressive Rock band... my favourite song is called "Shine on Brightly", and is best appreciated hearing the recorded version.
This song has never lost its haunting quality. It was once the soundtrack of a dream I had where I was in a runaway automobile that wound up in a swimming pool. Water theme I guess.
This song was originally released in 1968 ,in fact the coal is on TH-cam you should react to it you can see Gary Broker (the singer) when ha was young it was an amazing song back then and has held up over all these years ,the mark of great muaic
63 and have loved this song since forever. Please do some more collaborations with your Brother and the Cartier Family. Those videos are cool. Maybe do this one. (with help or by yourself) The Fat Electrician: "That Time America Blew Up a Whale with 1000 lbs of TNT". Yes it's real. Channel & video. (it's also hilarious)
This was eloquent and beautifully presented. If you'd care to try a "compare and contrast," you might enjoy the rendition by Joe Cocker. Happiest holidays to you. 😇🎄🎅🌹
Well, it is a spectacular setting and performance, with all those modern requisites of colour, high quality audio/ visual production etc that people go for today. However, I love to go back to some of the grainy old original b&w footage from the 60s, the one where they're dressed in hooded robes like ghostly monks - all adding to the spooky, sepulchral vibes - or in colour, wandering about gothic ruins in flower power gear (IIRC). Maybe because it was a time full of such hope and optimism, the music was extraordinary and ever changing, and the world lay open before us with its seemingly limitless possibilities...
@@paulknight9998 Goodness, I thought that little insult had gone out of fashion - haven't heard anyone use it for ages. Could it be you're a little behind the times too? 😀
I choose Denmark 06. He's an old man his voice is still good but no where near where it was in 67 when they came out of no where with this and whet to #1 for weeks. Some ppl call it the best piece of total nonsense R&R ever done. But then what do u want went they ripoff Bach. Yet it is true that anything anyone does organ organ after him was just copying what he had done. Now go back find one form 67 and see why these guys were what the were.
Hey, love you and love your channel. I could be wrong and I often am, but I don't think the red hair works for you. I am married and I have come to learn Uber the course of many years that women do like to experiment with things and I think that's excellent but by doing so I think the idea is you get to learn what works VS what doesn't work. Anyway, I'm not a hater so they don't misunderstand because I'm more of a lover in terms of viewing things that I appreciate not romantic definitions.
I’m 64 and ENJOY younger folks enjoying the outstanding music of my youth!
This is one of the greatest songs of the 60´s. Never gets old. I really like your channel Princess, you´re a genuine music lover.
Thank you❤️❤️

You also need to listen to Conquistador from the same concert. Spectacular. RIP Gary Brooker.
Great reaction! I discovered this banger watching people react to it on TH-cam!
Great song and SUPERB performance! ❤

Young lady, possibly the late Gary Booker's voice reminds you of the late Kenny Rogers, both are missed!
Literally my favorite song ever.
Fair enough
1967 was a great year! This was one of so so many. Adding the Royal Danish Orchestra was brilliant!

Great reaction. ❤

John Lennon said it was his favorite song.
Thankyou ❤

Incredibly beautiful and Incredibly sad. This is a lament. He is paying tribute to a young woman who overdosed and died during a wild party. Stunning.
What should I react to next ?
If you want to hear one of the most beautiful love songs try John Denver's For You from the Wildlife fund concert. I's amazing.
Pretty close to perfection!!
John Lennon absolutely adored this song.

for those who missed it, this is what is known as EPIC!
They always react to the old man version

Kenny Rodgers or Joe cocker
There is a longer version that nobody reacts to. It has two more verses.
