I love EVs (I daily drive a Tesla), but let's be honest - classic cars and even sports cars on the whole are not the prime drivers of emissions globally. Leave the classics and legends alone and focus on building compelling new products which people will use at scale.
When a trend is based on a dubious hypothesis (catastrophic, human-induced climate change), subsidies, and fashion, expect the laws of economics to bite back...hard.
This isn't the type of car someone would go out to buy and Everratti, clearly, aren't in the business of manufacturing cars so "building compelling new products" is an irrelevance. People who own classic cars have the option of changing them to EV or leaving them as ICE and Everratti are marketing that service. Whether it's "ruining" or "redefining" is a choice left to each individual owner of a classic car
Couldn't disagree more. Owning and maintaining a classic car can be a nightmare. As much as a like classics I've never seriously considered owning one until this age of EV conversions. @@latsword3513 So putting in the work to maintain a classic for future generations or paying someone to maintain them is too much for you, but you're ok paying hundreds of thousands to convert those classics to EV so you can have a daily driver? Sounds like you've really thought this out.
@@latsword3513 a properly maintained ICE classic can be perfectly reliable. And maintaining them to a high standard will be considerably cheaper than converting to EV.
Well how would I sum up this car. Looks wise absolutely nailed it. As for the conversion that depends if your taking a new engine out then no. But an old engine that’s tired then yes because as you say you have a classic car that looks the part that you can spend time in it driving it and everyday if you wish rather than under it . Guys, don't get confused. Iconic in motoring, first of all, is the ENGINE and its SOUND...!!!! Since there is no flat six there is no party...!!!!!!!!!!
As a feat of engineering, it's stunning. The work they've done, it's incredible and "modernising" it by giving it electric power is really impressively done but there's just something so.... off and unnerving with that silence. Its a shame how dull even classic exciting cars are getting imo
Being an enthusiast is about feasting in the sensations... the looks, the sounds, the feel, the smells. Converting to electric and thereby removing the sound of the engine, the raging thumping heart of a car, is a massive loss in the overall sensations. EVs have their place absolutely. At least some manufacturers (tip of the hat to Hyundai and the Ioniq 5N) are creating some new sound and sensations for their high performance EV models. But in a classic enthusiasts car like this I just don't think it fits.
As much as I understand we're moving forward with electrifying cars it's scary to think that this might be what the next generation 911 will sound like...
If you want an electric sports car today, there aren't many ways to get one. (I mean sports car as such, not a porky sedan like the Taycan!) I'm not surprised that some would resort to converting classic cars. And I've seen instances where the original car was salvage with its motor burned up, and it was otherwise going to be scrap, so it made sense to turn into an EV. I suspect this will look less appealing once we get the Cayman and Boxster EVs on the market, and the Lotus Type 135, and the Caterham Project V, and so forth.
Leaves me absolutely cold. And what’s the low carbon leather about? On a mass prediction of a couple of million cars fair enough, but these guys are literally pulling the wool over your eyes. No thanks.
