The sequence of scenes is amusing as well as content: downbeat Doctor and Adric in trouble, then the Doctor says the regeneration is failing (so why bother watching?) with Adric next to him, then we see Tegan and Nyssa laughing at the console.
I think I saw this recently on the Doctor Who The Collection Season 19 box set. It was kinda cool and interesting to see, gave me a chuckle and imagined what it must have been like back then.
@@purefoldnz3070 Technically not "retro" style, just BBC1 presentation graphic design in late 81/early 82. The striped BBC1 logo had first appeared in late 1975 and appeared on many continuity slides and on the special Christmas idents in the late 70s, before finally becoming part of the main ident in September 1981. I like the way the word "Season" is animated and the dot on the exclamation mark whizzes towards the viewer as the graphic mixes to the VT of Davison looking in the mirror. The late great Radio 2 DJ, Ray Moore, the go-to voice-over man for BBC1 trailers and menus from the mid 70s to the late 80s, reminding viewers the series was "...now on Mondays and Tuesdays." A great sequence. Recall it appeared between Blue Peter and the Evening News at 5.40pm. I was very keen to see how the new Doctor's first adventure would begin.
Yeah, the Master gets off in his TARDIS at the end of "Logopolis". Could easily have escaped to face the Doctor another day. And "Castrovalva" could easily have had 5th deal with some other foe for his debut story. But then I suppose it does conclude a trilogy long story arc which began with "The Keeper of Traken" dealing with the Master's return.
Should never have moved the show from Saturdays to weekdays and also showing two episodes a week as this meant the season lasted three months instead of six. Often wonder if they kept it the same as Hartnell to Baker mk1 whether the turbulent times the show went through in the mid - late eighties could have been avoided.
@tardis_treasures totally agree. A real pity that Earthshock wasn't the season Finale that year. Time Flight was much too ambitious a script to attempt in 1982 , especially at the end of the season when the money was tight.
6.55pm on Monday between Nationwide and The Rockford Files and 7.05pm on Tuesday usually following a Tom and Jerry before A Question of Sport. One of an occasional series in the late 70s and early 80s. 'So You Think...?' Was presented by Cliff Michelmore and Magnus Magnusson.
It was made for ten quid and a packet of Quavers, but it drew ratings any TV series today would kill their grandma for, and was usually 97 times better than the current version of the show. Not always, but Eric Saward hadn't finished kneecapping the show by this point.
Actually the first season of the Fifth Doctor was script edited by Christopher H Bidmead. Personally, I don't rate Saward very much, either. Terrance Dicks wasn't impressed by his work.
Downhill from here in my opinion. I continued to watch it, even during Sylvester McCoys doctor but never liked it. I don't watch it at all anymore. I just watch the old ones, doctors 1 to 4
Oh no, I loved 5. I started with 4 from Destiny of the Daleks onwards. But I agree, we need a cut off point to stop watching. I should have done that many years ago. Thanks for watching.
@@tardis_treasures I enjoyed some of Davison's stories, but I just don't like watching him. I enjoy The Visitation, Castrovalva, black orchid, but that's about all. I know Androzani is a fan favourite but I just don't see the appeal
It was nearly one of Peter's first-ever roles on television. He was only in his late twenties at the time and he himself has admitted that he took the role on too young, regretting not having played the role a little older. Watch Time Crash or hear his audios, his point is bang on. He sounds great in the role as an older actor.
Looks good, I'll be tuning in tonight at 6:55
Don't forget to also set your time coordinates for 1982
@@tardis_treasures That's what I forgot to do. Switched on just now and all I got was Euro 2024 🤔
How time flies
Oh damn, I missed it. I hope they show a repeat soon.
@MuchWhittering maybe wait for the five faces of Doctor Who next year

It really is. I suppose being video tape they just take what they can at the time.
I remember seeing this very well. The first glimpse of PD as the Doc. I was very excited at the time

@paulshorney3465 Back in the day 😊

Me too, I had just turned 12.
I was 5, and still remember watching Destiny of the Daleks before that. Not sure my memory is as good now lol

They just had to spoil the Master’s involvement...
Good old BBC. Still bugs me when they did this to simm.

It's not really a spoiler in this one, he is present from the beginning of the story.

Bugger! I missed it! It's 7:50! The new Doctor seems very different to Tom Baker!
0:08 - Peter not telling us to click like and subscribe just feels all wrong.
What an odd time for a program to begin.
Yup, but was buzzing going to bed afterwards ready for school.
I’m guessing it’s because the BBC doesn’t have commercials (other than for itself?) like American networks do.

For basically it’s entire lifespan doctor who has stayed firmly in the top 20 category for TV. It’s just that people aren’t watching TV anymore
And look what they have done to it now
Waaah, waaaah, waaaaaah 😂
Why is Doctor Who called Doctor Who?
The title reflects this question and the mystery surrounding the Doctor's true name
@@tardis_treasures excuse me please so why do people call him doctor, when is name is doctor who!? why not companions call him doctor who?
He's not called Doctor Who. He's the Doctor, the question is Doctor Who. But he has been referred to as Doctor Who in the past though.
Is this real if it isn’t are there any like this what are real? I’m so curious

I can see that as season 19 is my favourite. I've found recently I too watched 6 and 7, enjoyed some stories but didn't actually care for the Doctor.
