Doctor Who fan, with a love for model and prop making across different franchises such as Aliens, Friday the 13th and Red Dwarf to name a few. Videos will also include a smattering of merchandise, big boy toys and of course my builds.
The Tripods ● The Complete Series One and Two ● DVD Box Set Unboxing
Science fiction fans viewing British television in the 1980s had much to contend with. Limited budgets and unconvincing special effects often required a leap of faith of such size as to put people off. But, in the midst of this, emerged The Tripods, a fondly-remembered sci-fi hit of the time, of which both series are present on this DVD set.
Adapted from the books by John Christopher, The Tripods is set late in the 21st century, with humanity living in peaceful servitude, albeit under the eye of huge alien machines. These machines - The Tripods - fit the young with special headgear that will ensure future humans are similarly subservient to the alien invaders, and it s when two teenagers, Will and Henry, look to evade such treatment that the adventure begins.
Hearing stories of other uncapped humans in the south, they set off on a journey to find them, while being pursued by The Tripods, who naturally aren't best happy.
There are many pleasant surprises to The Tripods, even rewatching it today, and the programme has stood up really very well to the rigours of time. The limited budget means that the deployment of the Tripods themselves is kept for carefully chosen moments, and they re convincing, at time intimidating invaders. But it s the storytelling that s key here, and it s that which should ensure this DVD release earns The Tripods a new collection of fans.
First broadcast in 1984, post-apocalyptic fantasy adventure The Tripods remains one of the UK’s best-loved science fiction series.
This BBC box set contains both series of The Tripods as well as fascinating extra material.

Signed by both Chris AND Eric? You are very blessed! I specifically own this edition of the book for the better cover art.
Indeed, a holy grail for me as The Visitation is one of my all time favourite stories too. Great to have this book, especially as it has a dust jacket on it as well.
The difference between JNT/Cartmell and Chinballs, they added to the mystery of the Doctor’s origins but didn’t write a load of bollocks and retcon the shows past. And it’s a shame we have that arrogant shite Turdy Davies sticking his oar in on the special features.
Yup, can't stand rtds version of Doctor who. Never really have.
In the year 1985 I was grotty 16 and left grotty, school and also left grotty school and did not get a proper job until 4 years later when I was aged 20
Anything with Shittaker on the front is worth less than nothing. FACT.
I had this book years ago and lent it to a friend. Never got it back......
That's how good it was lol
Best DW spinoff EVER
Intresting
Man im exited
sorry my englishe is very carzy, i am estonia why are these fearsome robotics are called cider men?
Do you like sapphire and steel?
Actually I've never watched it
As much as I hate the bbc, i might have to get this.
She’s ready to face the raven…and strangle it for lunch
awful figure
Also love the black gloves…very Dario Argento giallo chic
Ha ha, I have no idea why I thought they were a good idea when I started making videos. Quite sinister ha ha
@@Tardis_TreasuresI dig it!
My favorite audio dramas! Better than most Big Finish imho
Totally agree, I think the big finish stuff is lacklustre
I still have the star trek /doctor who comics somewhere.
Unfortunately I sold this many years ago. Now it's worth a few bob
@@Tardis_Treasures I bought the single comics.
Back when Dr Who wasn't Dr Woke
I've got the full set of the old DVD's plus the CDs of the BBC Radio series. I got into this wonderful and extremely relevant (even to this day) show thanks to seeing reruns on UKGold back in the late 1990s while waiting for 'Doctor Who' to come on. While I most likely won't get the Blu Ray I do still very much enjoy this series and I would love to show this show to my partner who is VERY anti Government and who also enjoys SF old and new. I think that she'll very much like it if she gave it a chance.
Pre ordered. Can't wait to finish the 7th Doctor adventures
I know what you mean. Some great blu rays coming out soon.
Absolutely 💯 💯 brilliant. Pre ordered mine already.
Gotta be done, it does look superb
Welcome to the candy kitchen
A series that has always lived on in many sci Fi fans, hope the new rebellion series is just as good.
Fingers crossed 🤞
No I'm coming back
I hope they keep the original special effects available to watch as well. Like they did with Star Trek the original series. I happen to like the old style model special effects. And I would like to be able to continue to watch them.
Oh they will, just like the doctor who collection sets.
Remember trying to make the transporter bracelet from blue petter did not get pass the orange bottle
The museum has some nice models and props. Looks like a mixture of original and reproduction.
For the most part they are all original props, each one will say what it was used on.
@@Tardis_Treasures most sci-fi museum displays I've seen over the years had a mixture of both, which I don't mind, original has probably long gone.
As a kid I loved this show next to Doctor Who on UK TV, I loved the Liberator and was very annoyed when they destroyed it and got another ship. This show has so much potential for a remake in today's climate with ordinary citizens being imprisoned for thought crimes or things they haven't done, perfect time to bring this show back if done right
It really does. I think Farscape borrowed from it a little.
Well, that can swing both ways, can't it? Will the remake villain be called President Starmalan or President Strump?
Liked B7 back in the late 70s early 80s but I preferred the reboot? The one that featured Glynis Barber and the different main ship. In saying that I was never a massive fan as I was very young and the production values (Budget) was poor. It had great characters but they overused real life locations way too much such as the Dr Who gravel pit & underground car parks. Concrete corridors in Space!? But I'm willing to give this new release a go.
Totally agree, I haven't watched it myself since it first aired, but avidly watched every week. I was very young then, but the new fx for every episode certainly peaked my interest in pre ordering this set. Plus thar music is gorgeous
They had no money. 50 quid an episode. They filmed in quarries because of that..
Only new affect I don't like is the Teleport.
Yeah that looked amateur as hell.
@@Tardis_Treasures should have used the original effect but updated.
I've spent years trying to think up what the teleport bay effect should look like instead. I think the white shell for when they're on a planet or such works fine conceptually (and Blake directly references it in 'Trial' so it kind of has to stay that way). But, for the life of me I cannot think of what should replace 'wriggly wriggly effect'.
@@markbelsom3174 this *is* the original effect updated. The white outline effect will only be seen on the planets surface.
Don't think anyone likes it.
Awesome! Here's hoping a North American release is possible/planned
Fingers crossed for you guys over the pond.
I need that too. I'm in HK. UK release won't play on my player
Love them
With no adult supervision on JNT, the show never recovered
Man i sure do hope they dont turn evil or anything 😅
I'm sure they will be just fine...
how is it going?. super- superb drone, 💫
It's what the UK needs right now ha ha
That’s an Earthshock helmet not Revenge
It's an attack cyberman helmet. It's a different type due to its backplate.
Isn't that from the extremely terrible 30th anniversary episode
Dimensions in time it was. It's real cringe to watch
Quite like this set. Hopefully we'll see the new releases soon.
There's an Emperor davros coming I've seen...
@@Tardis_Treasures yep and a Resurrection set, I think.
Oh nice. I was hoping for that.
@@Tardis_Treasures only set I was interested in was the three figure set but I've been told it's only new who.
Totally uninterested in new who stuff myself, unless they ever put out those 13th doctor Daleks.
Love it! 😂😂 I need more Two Doctors references in my life. Or classic Doctor who memes in general
Fantastic, you have come to the right place ha ha
The 7th Doctor will be the first blu ray run to be complete! Can't wait until it's released!
Unless you count the 6th Doctor which is only missing the twin Dilemma, but the 7th also misses the movie too untill paul mcgann gets a proper release.
@tardis_treasures true twin dilemma is on season 21 which will probably not be out for awhile. It would great if they included the movie on one of the 7th Doctor sets.
😮
This is a lost incarnation between 1 and 2……….
I once built this fantastic model ,its actually very tall and a great display peice. I have since managed to obtain another mint copy of this book and will be keeping it in its original condition.
Yes I too will keep it in its original state, took me a while to track down a built model I could use for this video
you were lucky to own one of those daleks and hopefully have a new one. if stored in a house or well stored you would think it would not need to repainted for a very long time? surprised it had neck damage too. maybe from usage as I would assume given the cost that these daleks would be well made and not fall apart easily
It was a static prop for the most part. It was only when I moved house the car journey just shook the thing to pieces. The glues and fillers all fell apart. If I hadn't rebuilt the dalek I probably would never have built 2 daleks afterwards.
I must think about getting this Cybercontroller.
Hopefully you will get one that dosent need repainting. 😅
Looks great, I've got this Cyber Controller. Might have go re painting mine as well
Cheers, it's quite a simple job really, nuln oil is a godsend for those blacks. Just finished a drathro yesterday along with an L1 Robot 3d print. Will show those sometime. Thanks for checking out my video. Appreciated.
I love the Death Zone Dalek & the figure ❤👍
They are superb aren't they. Funny how close the figure resembles my version of the deathzone dalek.
