At first I thought this song was about the girl telling the guy that she “loved him” but then I realized that it’s a self reflective song.

A song have more than one meanings. Then again - what we criticize in others is a reflection of what we criticize inside our own self.

WOWWWW you’re totally right. I always wondered: if the song was written for the girl involved, who is the “she” in the line “what did you expect would happen... she’d pat you on the back stand up and start slow clapping”. He’s talking to himself!
Wow. This is like a modernized hybrid of The Eagles, Hall and Oats, and Fleetwood Mac. Any one of those bands would have killed for this song.

this is a cliche, but words cannot describe my feelings towards this song. It radiates heartbreak, love, nostalgia and happiness in a way that I've never heard before. This song is truly like no other. thank you so much theo.

Cannot. Stop. Listening. All the instruments flying under the radar but combining to make such a rich sound, real lyricism, and light and shade in the singing.
I've listened to the Vulfpeck cover (is it still called a "cover" if a bunch of the musicians are in both versions?), but this is my first time listening to Theo's original. They're both so good and so different. They hit different parts of the heart and explore different flavors of pain from the same experience.

Sincerely beautiful and appropriately unnerving. I really love this song Theo, there's so many "love" songs in this world and 99% of them take the same perspective on the word. I like this angle, its refreshing and the touch of cynicism adds a sense of authenticity. The real world is a lot more warped than most love songs portray :/

I have not heard lyrics with such an astute and poignant observational repose around the tricky emotional subject of love since Leonard Cohen walked amongst us. At the same time, the mindspace of a person hurt and casually scorned is just rawly present as well. Beautiful melody, too. Theo's like the comprehensive designer of the millennial heart.

It’s a damn near perfect song. Think I like the arrangement they all created for Antwan better but all the more reason to applaud Theo. It’s cool to see him and Joey gift their songs to Antwan to reinterpret, and I think it benefits everybody in the long run. This video certainly as WAY more views than it did a month ago
