I have spent a lot of time during quarantine watching vlogs of people restoring French Chateaus, American ghost towns and small farms. It’s like peaking into different cultures. All of the different accents are interesting.
Nothing more peaceful than a flat Georgia pine forest. They are so quiet and you can listen to them whisper, and smell the straw on the floor heated from the Georgia sun. I grew up on such a place.
@Diane Benzler in the pine forrest, the only thing on the floor is pine straw. When the sun breaks through the trees, you can walk along and smell and even feel the warmth radiating up from the forrest floor. But you have to be very careful because it is also a favorite habitat for Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes and Copperheads also.

That's how we started with our brush hog and an old Ferguson TO20 tractor without a three point hitch. Forward and backward, making paths amongst the crab apples. Very tedious. Then, after much handwork with chainsaws, then a bigger tractor with a bucket, then more handwork. Then all of a sudden, after a few years, we have true meadows and beautifully pruned trees. It is so beautiful now, and yours will get that way too. You are a good steward of your land. We must have given away fifty cords of stove wood.
So why watching a video of a guy driving a tractor is so appealing. Well, for the peace, tranquility, and beauty of the land being restored. And wishing I was there. This reminds me of the simply satisfying videos you can find on TH-cam.
I remember my dad got an old (now) tractor about 65 years ago, with a metal seat with the holes in it, to mow our property. Well, next day he had huge hole size blisters on his butt. Took him a couple days to be able to sit down. Used a pillow after that.
Robert, I absolutely get this. Few years back a mowing contractor at our airfield dropped the ball on their duties. Airfield manager asked for employees to volunteer to mow/bush hog the airfield. I started day 1 on a zero turn. Two days later I was on DL120 Massey Ferguson and bush hogging that entire airfield. I was hooked!!!! I loved it so much. The guys had a good laugh because they never thought this girlie would like it. Wrong, It really became my solace. The hours would click by and it was heaven to me. I logged 50 hours of overtime in one week, lol. I was heart broken when the contract was awarded. Watching you do this brought back great memories. Thanks for sharing. It’s really looking so great!

Except in the mountains I'm almost never sad to see pine trees go. When they catch fire, they burn fast and when they explode it sends huge balls of fire debris a hundred yards in every direction so then you have six fires and they spread. I've seen it so often.
The wisteria and privet kill me! They are so difficult to grow here in the north. It’s hard to imagine chopping them down. What brand and year is your tractor?
I like ridin' on the tractor even more than I enjoy watchin' y'all work, Robert! The tractor's "Mower" accessory is surprisingly effective. So cool! Yuh, this isn't nature conservation, this is a living lab in homestead restoration, though. Such passion.
I use to have a 9n tractor that worked like a bull. It would pull out stumps, rocks plow up the fields with no problem. Keep up the good work. Take care.😉🚜🍺

I just love that you are restoring this beautiful old house and the property around it. It is fun to watch you do all this because it's so obvious how much you just love this place. We found clearing the land of smaller trees like that, cutting more than a yard, 40 in is about a meter, that as you walk through and cut at 1 m or 1.5 m high, the clearing goes much faster. Later, when you come back through cut the stump remainder at the groud level. Then you have 2 or 3 pieces of perfect length firewood for the fireplace. Work like that requires safety first, but speed [timeliness] and efficiency [no wasted energy or time] otherwise it becomes work instead of a bit of fulfilling exercise. Spread out over multiple outings, with an occasional friend to keep you company [assist], then it's done and you have finished, firewood is ready for winter as well.
Where the truck won't go because of mud but that brush in there. You should be able to drive out. Dad did this more than Once when camping. Also we do that when it Snows. Don't go getting gravel when you all ready have what you need. Loving this Program.
My brother has a 9n and a 8n that he uses on his farm. He plows a 1 acre garden with his 9n every year, he also ha all the implements for the 9n and 8n. It runs great. He has had it for over 50 years.
Mowing is probably my favorite thing to do. We lived on a piece of land for 3 years. The 2nd and 3rd years I had a riding mower. I reclaimed about an acre of pasture from the blackberry brambles. Had we lived there longer, I would have done more. Every year I mowed a bit farther. I hope the landlord appreciates what I did for his property. I loved seeing the results and all the grass coming back in lush and green. Beats blackberry brambles any day.

If you can find some old screens make you a screen cover in front an just under the radiator to where even if it gets a bunch of Grass an weed build up you don't have to stop right away but when you do take an old piece of a broom or branch an brush it off. Thats what my Grandpa did umpteen years ago. Stay safe you an yours the Virus is on the rise again.

My granny and grandpa took care of an old milk farm back in the early 1950' s, somewhere around Columbus Georgia I've tried to find it before as I have become a senior but never could find it , it was as over grown as your farm , this video sure looks very much as it did🙂

Great job! That area reminds me of where I grew up in Conn. "You" would have to walk down three dirt roads to get to the house my mother and father built. There was a pine forest where the trees were so tall, that the snow would not even reach the ground. A beautiful sight. There were all kinds of wildlife around. I will certainly keep watching.

I use to cut the grass with an old International Harvester tractor. Probably about the same size as your tractor. The sounds of the engine, the throttle and general squeaks of yours brought back a bunch of fun memories. Man I miss that tractor. I'm really enjoying all your videos, keep up the great work.
I love the fact that you finally got a bush hog and makes clearing up a lot easier, and Love the fact that you saved that old tractor and a little love and maintenance and she is still able to work for ya. I hate when old tractors and the like are just thrown to the side, cause people just get too lazy to taker care of them any more and they still have a lot of life left in them, just need some maintenance and a little love...

Climbing onto the old Ford tractor brings back some memories. We had an old Ford tractor, though I think yours might be older, that I started driving at 10 yrs. old and did all the brush hogging on the farm and I hated that job...lol

Goats are good, BUT you have to figure in total cost as well, with feed, upkeep vet bulls and vaccines, and some sort of shed or barn for them, to go in bad weather and make sure there is a good water source for them as well,,

Like that you are gonna keep SOME of the trees on the property just not ALL of them:-) On the Older Pine trees, with low hanging limbs, I would trim all those off around the trunk of the tree saving the rest... which is what my husband and I have done to Three Large almost 20 ft pines that one of the past owners planted YEARS ago, but planted them way too close to our Home, and so a lot of the spread of the low limbs were dead or dieing off, so Paul and I took some heavy duty loopers to all of them and cut them off... NOW I can mow the lawn on the rider and not get hit in the face by them, they are above my head to where I can ride safely under them and still get all the grass:-)
Burn those brush piles! Pine trees can be beautiful but their needles when decomposing make the soil more acidic and harder for grasses to grow. Love to see you working on your property. Can't wait for more videos of this and the house restoration!!!

That tractor is so neat! So many cool things in this video. Reminds me of when we'd take the tractor and trailer back into the forest to cut trees down and get wood for the winter! Many logs were split.
Your restoring the land to the way the pioneers of the farm had cleared it. The land has already started to restore itself before the Byrd family cleared it. Great job and a gorgeous piece of property. Are you going to have livestock? Maybe for them for shade in a hot Georgia summer, you might leave some beautiful trees here and there.

Things in the 40s were made to last and to be worked on easily. If a farmer had to get a new tractor every 10 years, it wasn’t worth it.
I watched another video where he and the other Robert came across this tractor. I believe it’s 100+ years old. 🙌❤️ it’s quite the workhorse.

I used to hum the theme from "green acres" when I was bushhogging on my 8n.. just couldn't get it out of my head. Sold it with the land. Miss em both.

Here's a suggestion....throw wild flower seeds around the pasture it would be beautiful plus the bees would love it.

Clear the outside perimeter and put up electric fence and then buy goats for the summer they will do the work .Lots of goats for a whole summer

Use the top of that "pretty little christmas tree" as a tabletop tree, which were popular when your farmhouse was built.

Top tip: If you place all the cut ends facing out you can grab the bottom of the pile and unload the truck in seconds. Youre welcome :-)

That tractor is so neat! So many cool things in this video. Reminds me of when we'd take the tractor and trailer back into the forest to cut trees down and get wood for the winter! Many logs were split.

Started out driving a tractor just like this one almost 50 yrs ago....finally upgraded to a mid 60s ford 2000 about 1973. Still use the ole gal.

Love it! We had an old Ford 8N in the 1990s on some acreage in SW Georgia, Terrell County. It was a rusty workhorse, but it would go and go and go.

Your restoring the land to the way the pioneers of the farm had cleared it. The land has already started to restore itself before the Byrd family cleared it. Great job and a gorgeous piece of property. Are you going to have livestock? Maybe for them for shade in a hot Georgia summer, you might leave some beautiful trees here and there.

Born and raised in GA I can smell the pines from here. I live in Florida. Where I'm located we have lots of cherry trees and mimosas and oaks.
Mimosas are almost as bad as Wisteria !
