    That’s not a stove pipe. It’s a chicken feeder🐥🐥🐥

    • @sandrasloan7115
      @sandrasloan7115 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for notifying Robert of that feeder. Bless his heart, he is learning, one step at a time.
      And the short evergreen bladed plant he keeps coming across out front is commonly called Monkey Grass or lirope. It has pretty purple blooms in summer that close and make green then change to purple berries. These are seeds. And the plant grows with runners. It is best to trim with weed eater before those berries form to remove the dead ragged foliage without throwing those berries out into your newly planted lawn. You cannot just pull it up. It must be dug up with a pick. Makes a very good edger for outlining flower beds and protecting tree trunks from weed eater cutting the bark, leaving open wounds for insects, disease or rot. Commonly called string eater disease in the Master Gardener Course. 😂

The pickle jars are great - wash them and clean the lids and when you set up your wood shop screw the lids to the underside of a shelf and put odd and end screws and nuts in (that's what my AhDa did)! That saddle looks like a McClellen saddle, from the open area on the seat and the high back rest. This was a man's saddle, designed for comfort. It was first approved for the US Army in 1859, used by Union cavalry then issued by Confederates as it's a lighter saddle that is more comfortable for the undernourished withers of both sides. Since the Confederates had scant leather, the saddle skirt was often made of painted canvas. My dad used one in the US Army in 1941 (the US Cavalry pretty much disbanded once we entered the war). They are still used for ceremonial purposes. Dad showed me one on display in a museum, and the saddle really brought back memories for him. I got to listen to many stories that evening. As far as the age of this one, judging by how little is left of that saddle, it may have been Confederate. How disappointing that it was just left to rot. The cinch strap still looks ok. Got a horse?

    Also just a passing thought. If the old door was cut inorder to fit the opening in the barn. Then it really won't be much use any where else. However since the handle sill worked I would take it apart and clean it up. Oil it up really well then use it in the house or another place where it will fit.

    Save all the parts to the stove. Feet, doors, every scrap you can find. There are guys who specialize in restoring those to working condition. Put it back in the house. My grandfather's housekeeper back in North Carolina made the best coconut cake in their wood burning stove. You'd do the baking in the morning when you needed the higher temperatures and then meals when it got down to roasting. Even after he bought a new oven/range for the house, you'd still find her baking things in the old stove.

    Okay. This is just an idea. On Barnwood Builders they put chains through two holes in the roof that are attached together and then hooked onto a cable. The lift the roof off and away with their forklift or crane. If you can hook a chain through two holes in barn roof, bring them together outside. Find a sturdy tree nearby and throw a rope over that goes down to the chain. Then pull it up and away from the barn with the tractor. If you tie 2 more guide ropes to the outside bottom corners before you start and have Cody and Robert at the end of those lines, they can manipulate which direction the roof swings in while you pull it up with the tractor. That way it's away from the barn, easier to get the tin off & dismantled on a flat surface and with the roof gone you'll be better able to salvage stuff inside.

    Rim looks like studebaker truck. The three clips will be identifying thing. 700 tall 15” rim “LT” truck knobby snow tire. 15s came into use mid 1950s and used till about 1964 then most things went to 14” for cars. Trucks stayed 15 but didn’t use that type of wheel.

    That old stove pipe item at time marker 3:13 looked like there was a handle on when you threw in the trash pile ! If so it could have been an old chicken feeder that would hang from the ceiling !

    Did you ever go to a abandoned resort place near Reynolds Ga. called Miona Springs? It’s mostly over grown now but there are still some places where they had concrete pools. This place had a resort hotel, a wooden swimming pool, cabins etc. I’m sure Macon county or Taylor counties have records and some people have pictures of the resort.

    I have heard of a Wisseria vine taking over a house. After a few years ,the house collapsed because of the weight... I don't know if that's a true story,but now I'm thinking it just might be....
    Thanks for sharing your adventure with your new,old house. BE CAREFUL !!!! And keep those videos coming.
