Let’s explore the old canning shed. I’m getting really excited about this old building. The preservation and restoration of this structure is an excellent first step before tackling the house.

I can't wait to see how the shed turns out! as far as the barn if it can't be salvaged will you get rid of it or try to rebuild it how it was for the historical preservation of the property?

I saw a vise in the lower left corner at 8:49 when you were showing the baby crib. At 13:20 while you were in the loft, that old wooden crate appears to be a military ordnance box. The stenciling on the end looks military and the blue painted corner indicates some sort of inert training device. Perhaps clay-more mine or grenade trainers. If that blue color was yellow, it indicates live, high explosive ordnance. Love it and definitely a keeper!

When we added on to our house we installed a drop-down ironing board in the master bedroom dressing room. I love the convenience of it. Please save your vintage one to use in the laundry room or elsewhere.

Of all the things to focus on. It piqued my interest when you pulled out that Sun Crest soda bottle. Here in Dayton, Ohio in the early 1960s my older brother would buy a 6 pack of the Sun Crest punch soda and bring it home to share with 5 younger siblings. My mom would share1 bottle between us 5 younger kids. We seldom got soda so it was a real treat! We only got a few ounces a piece and it would never be enough to satisfy. I never got enough. I swore when I grew up I was going to drink as much Sun Crest punch soda as I wanted. Well. After I was older to make my own choice I never drank another Sun Crest punch soda but even after 60 years, I still remember how good it tasted! Thanks for the memories Robert!

I've watched plenty of British antique shows to know they are crazy about enamel signs, and spend big bucks for them. If Robert could find a vendor in his area that deals with antiques, he might be able to score big-time with that one!

Don’t throw away any of the glass. Cleaning it up is easy and you can usually find people at flea markets to tell you what you got. Remember one persons junk is another persons treasure. Get some mechanic gloves-thin, protect well and won’t make you sweat. Not snake proof, but could keep you from a rusty cut or scrape. Would definitely get a leaf blower going inside. That is some high quality wood, I hope there is no excessive rot on the bottom. The cleaned up shed will definitely help you store the materials your gonna need to tackle the house. Hope you have more good finds.

the little blue stool or bench type thing that was in the upstair is super cute and would be fun on the house porch with some plants sitting on it or at the entrance of the shed. Also a red round spool the same. I like the pop bottle and that texture jar. You should keep some of those things even though they are not super old still fun to put in windows with flowers in them. Save all the old crates to you can use them for decor. Loving these videos.

You should rent a big huge dump the dumpster and dump the things that you don’t want in the dumpster and sub dump dumping them on the ground and then having the dumpster picked up and thrown in the trash it be less work for you in the long run all the bottles that you find you can make a bottle tree with it it’s beautiful when the sun shines through all the bottles or you can separate them and recycle them get all the bottles out of there but you got to get a little organized can’t keep throwing stuff around here and there you’re gonna end up picking it up in the end so organized as you go as you clean up it would be less work for you I love your videos it’s very interesting and you make it fun keep up the good work

Black widow and Brown Recluse hide in jars and corners. Use a grabber and pitchfork to lift the junk. It gives you more protection from snakes, spiders and
Other creatures that have a nasty sting.

I was working for an electrician on the restoration of the old "Kenan Home" (circa early 1800's) in Kenansville NC back in the 60's. The construction team had home movers place I beams under the flooring and raised the entire structure about 8-10 feet in the air. In their case they built a concrete wall basement to house electrical, plumbing and heating/air underneath the original foot print of the house. Once they were done the house was gently lowered onto its new concrete foundation and the original crawl space bricking was reconstructed as a veneer so that none of the concrete was visible and it all looked original. You could do similar but just pour a concrete pad for the shed to sit on. That would prevent any further rotting and sagging. Oh, I would be super careful after that rattle snake you found!

Hi, Robert. Enjoy watching your you tube channels very much. I retired and moved to my grandparents farm. I have looked through piles of stuff also. Two recommendations. Always always always wear gloves to protect your skin from sharp edges and black widow spiders. Always have a hoe with you to turn over pieces that you want to remove or check to see what is underneath . We have snakes, too, in Texas. But I am just as afraid of the black widows.

Robert, please be extra cautious about the spiders hiding under all that debris in the dark places.
My husband of 47 years retired from ATT IN '04. And having grown up in Ms on a farm and going to Ms State before being drafted into the Army during Vietnam in 1968. So the Monday following retirement he went out to a friend's farm here in Cullman, Al, and worked with him for 12 years, before sadly, being bitten by a brown recluse spider. Probably the thing crawled up the leg of his jeans... On April 28, 2016, just 2 days after he felt a pinch or sting, he showed me "the sore" on the front of his thigh. Having been the RN Surgical Assistant for our Plastic Surgeon in Birmingham for 6 years,. I immediately knew what it was. He had a large thick black crust or "scab" about the size of a lemon of dead tissue from the venom of that spider bite. That poison eats or dissolves soft tissue and spreads rapidly. His wound was only 2 days old when he showed it to me. And he had a hard, red dimpled skin ring like a scarlet orange peel that was the size of a saucer around that black dead tissue. I knew he already had blood poisoning, was septic, and must be on IV Antibiotics immediately. When I was told to bring him to the Dr office, I should have taken him immediately to the ER inorder to initiate treatment. He was in septic shock with a blood pressure of only 78/? and 83/?. His Dr did not put him in ICU on a drip to raise his blood pressure, instead admitted him to a regular room and ordered a surgical consult. His BP was too low for anesthesia and the OR, so the surgeon operated on it at bedside in his room, and cut out all of the dead tissue. He was treated with IV antibiotics every 6 hours, declined daily. And by May 8, 2016 his BP was down to 63/38. And he was barely responsive, turning purple on his extremities, and dying on Mother's Day. The House Supervisor called the cardiologist due to his history of atrial fib, who immediately did put him in CICU and on that drip to raise his blood pressure. But by then he was in organ failure due to his BP being too low to perfuse oxygen to his organs. Other measures were then implemented, a nephrologist consulted, renal dialysis, etc, and he improved greatly. However, medical card being dictated by insurance, he was no longer kept in the hospital, having been there too many days, and transfered to a long term facility. The foreign hospitalist there decided he did not need the additional 30 days of IV antibiotics every 6 hours, plus the vancomycin antibiotic ordered every day during renal dialysis, so he ordered everything stopped, removed all his PIC Lines, and everything being used to monitor his returning renal function. Right days later he died. Bilateral pneumonia in both lung bases, high infection and yeast infection in his bladder, and cellulitis from his waist down to his ankle on the opposite leg from the spider bite.
I WAS a RN Case Manager. I reported these things to administration, the Case Manager, and no one would stand up to that jerk from the Far East and resume treatment of my husband. And he died 2 months after turning 70 years of age. He was murdered by an unknowing foreign Dr who was not going to be shown up by a RN of 52. years.
So, please be very careful. Brown recluse bites are a terrible venom that eats flesh, and has very extensive tissue damage, even when treatment is begun relatively

    • @sandrasloan7115
      @sandrasloan7115 2 ปีที่แล้ว

soon after diagnosis. His spider bite was only 2 days before he showed me "the sore" on his leg.
      Please use caution.

That is some heavy duty wood on that shed. I sold one of my homes to a military family and the foundation didn't meet standards so they brought in a tractor and leveled down the ground......that is what I would do with the shed then dig down each corner of the shed (one by one) and the centers of the shed walls and add yourself some cement block or brick or in keeping with the age maybe some nice flat rocks. Also clear the floor of the shed and you could put in a new floor. Easiest way to go.

The green box in the attic space is a military ammo box. The blue squares painted on the corners means inert so probably a training round. That is to say a real live round that could be fired but the “bullet” part (projectile) didn’t have an explosive charge. If I had been a kid there back in the day, that would have been my space and the box may contain some kids treasures from long ago.

Awesome sign. You don't have to put in another floor: you could stabilize the structure and throw some gravel in there. you'll reach a point where you start doing things fast and easy and cheaply or you'l just never get through.

Always an adventure with history, always exciting finds in old places. Keep up the great work on history, and restoring.

Under the sink, the big square jar, old orange juice container, and there were several Folgers jars. I was a kid when those were in use, 1960s-70s. Also think I saw an old Karo syrup jar.
