It gives me a big smile that John Davis is still making new episodes of MotorWeek. I was just 10 years old when he started doing this. I’m now 53 and still watch MW on TH-cam.
it feels like the entry sports car genre is dead everything is just so expensive. the Alpine costs 54.000$ minimum up to way beyond 100k. the Supra costs 57.000$ minimum. the new Honda Civic Type R will cost minimum 47.000$ The Corvette seems to be the best choice of all of them. even the new Toyota G86 will cost 31.000$ minimum, which is as much as the new Ford Mustang EcoBoost with 315hp. The V8 450 hp Mustang fastback costs "only" 45.000$, which seems kinda reasonable compared to the other prices listed here. i remember when entry level sports cars could be bought for 17.000$ (first gen Civic Type R cost that much in 1997)
@@manodiaoThe GT86 seems like a good deal. 0-60 in ~6.5 seconds is absolutely fine. The torque dip is largely mitigated. MPG is decent. It’s a 2+2 with seats that are nearly useless for seating adults but the folding provides a nice amount of cargo space. The biggest factor imo to not get it would be its exhaust note. It’s not great.
It needs a manual transmission. And it's extremely overpriced! It should be 48k for a Nismo manual transmission. There's no reason it should be anywhere near the 60s. 50k is pushing it.
A Z32TT cost that much, thirty years ago in '90s money, and a clean low km one costs that much used in today's money. The RZ34 Nismo is head a shoulders above that car, though I agree they need an hshift version. If I want a fast "automatic" I'll just buy a used Tesla.

Love John Davis! As for the new Z, I live in a major West Coast metro city where you'd expect to see these on roads, and I haven't seen a single Z in the wild. Not one. I don't know what Nissan dealers are doing with this car, but it sure seems like they aren't selling them to buyers. I'm happy this NISMO exists. It's not perfect, but it doesn't need to be. Any sports car is a good thing. I will say though, the front tires on the car in this video were begging for mercy. With as much protesting as they were doing in this video, I can't imagine them surviving very long at a track day. Probably nothing some extra camber can't fix.
So they put a light tune, lame red accents and springs. I dunno for $66k which most people don't have me included. There are a bunch of other options. I feel like its too little too late for Nissan for too much.
Yall need to drive this car. Its a great driver's car... However, you could buy a base or performance model and upgrade it for this amount and make it smoke any of the other cars in the price point you are comparing it to
At around $50k for the Nismo, it would be a bit more attractive. Priced at the same as a BMW M2, which you can get with a manual, I don't see why you would choose this.
@@autodigitvlogs Not sure what you're getting at, the M2 is heavier than it was before, but it's just under 200lbs heavier than the Z (and has a useable backseat). The power to weight ratio, handling prowess, and driving experience are firmly in the M2's corner. Add in the better materials of the M2 (the Nissan interior is underwhelming) and there's no contest, especially when you factor the biggest difference between the two, the option of a manual transmission on the M2, and none on the Nismo Z.
I drove the Z performance trim with 6 speed, and the NIZMO with Automatic, for $ 54K, I'll take the Performance trim all day long, and there's no substitute for a manual, much nicer driving experience for $14K less, and the Performance trim has a civil day to day ride.
Needs to start in the 20s and top out in the '30k range. Hence why the 350z sold. Way better options out there for the price. I also have never heard anybody say man. I want the new z. Failure

This car is very nearly perfect.... apart from price. The previous gen 370Z and Nismo model could be had for around $30-35k brand new if you haggled well with a dealership pre-2020 and that was a really good deal. But then covid really changed all that.... This new Z looks great, while keeping almost everything underneath and inside over 10 years old. And that is fine.
I think people are being too critical of this car. Yes its at least 15k too expensive, however its not electric, RWD, has better styling than original, better interior, better wheels, better suspension and is still quick. I agree its too much, but in this day in age we have Toyota 4Runners going for 70k, and other overpriced cars. Other than its price, and no manual option, I would say its pretty good.
As a Z car fan, I just couldn't pull the trigger on this. I own two Z32's, a TT and NA (which I'll LS3 swap). I owned a Z34 aka 370Z sport package 6-speed. But this new Z is a letdown. I ended up buying a used C7 Z51 7-speed. Much faster, better handling, and better looking.
Wait. Did you say 0-60 is EXACTLY the same as the regular model? So, paying 23k more for stickers and tweaked suspension?! The 2019 370Z, could do 0-60 in 5.2 seconds. And NISMO could do it in 4.7.
I like them but if you compare these lines with the perfect lines of a 90 300zx, they just don't hold up. The 90 300zx had some of the smoothest lines that still pop today, this car looks like a Hyundai Tiburon in comparison.
I'm glad they fixed the flaws in the base car, but $67k is a whole lotta cabbage for a Z. If you have that much to spend on a two-seat sports car, why not get a Z51 Stingray instead?
I would downshift to 3rd and spin when i had the stock tires on my 2003 Mach1, that was only about 330 with my mods at the time. It's more about the tire than anything.
The price is high, but they know they only sell a few Nismo versions to Z collectors. Unfortunately BAE and the early CVT debacle kind of hamstrung all Nissan cars so folks don't want them. Plus, the Sport Z comes in hshift (with a better diff) and is 90% of what this car is. You can snap up one of those and spend a few weekends putting on all the Nismo parts, bushings and all, (including the Nismo catalog parts that don't even come on the Nismo version!) and still come out less than this car, bonus is it will be hshift and a whole lot more fun.
Yea, this aint it chief. $66k and all you get is a twin turbo 6 (that will likely need turbos at 50k), a dash thats a giant screen, no manual, uncomfortable bucket seats, and an uninspired factory body kit. These are just bad. The original z looks much better, is cheaper, and can be tuned to match the numbers of this car. I see no point in this even existing.
Almost $3000 more than my Mach 1 and can’t compete with it in any performance metric on that 30 year old chassis, and is less useful…. Shame as I think it’s a beautiful car!
For this price and risk of maintenance 3 yrs down the road (as well as no manual), this is disappointing (especially in Canadian $, and only using 8 months a year). I’ll probably look for a used, low mileage C7 Corvette non ZR1/Z06 model with a LT2 or LT3 pkg. About the same daily mpg, less money laid out, most likely more reliable and still opportunity to squeeze out a bit more HP / TQ without risk to engine.
Ridiculous price!... I bought a new 2019 C7 Corvette Grand Sport 2LT and paid only a couple K more and it has 460 HP V8, and yet gets the same gas milage! and in my opinion the C7 looks better🤔... No offense to anyone who bought this thing, but it's a rip off! 💯%
