Makes sense why the nismo is more nimble. In Phoenix we have some engineers who test them at local Autocross events and they have worked dialing the chassis. That M2 though just seems like a track weapon though.
As soon as I saw the difference in accelerration my first thought was, "no way there's only a 50hp difference between these 2!". 100 hp is more believeable. Interestingly enough the M2 only managed a 2:56.9 in Car and Driver's lightning track and the Z managed a 2:56.2. Close enough the driver/conditions seem to be the biggest factors. As a die hard Z fan, I still prefer the Z, but hard to suggest getting one over the M2 at the same price 😢
I believe the C&D Lightning Lap also had a significant tire differential between the cars. The Dunlop Sport Maxx tires the Nismo was using during that lap have a 200 UTQG rating, whereas the Pilot Sport 4S have a 300 UTQG rating; if the M2 ran with Cup 2s or Cup 2 Rs, then I believe it would have probably been quite a bit faster.

Years ago I had an Infiniti M45. I learned then that German horsepower is different. I have a '20 M5 competition now, no more pretend Japanese horsepower. The Z probably has 350WHP, the M2 probably has at least 453WHP.
@@sailguy0321 that's about the ONLY example, and it's 16 years old. Also, the way a 2023 911 turbo or turbo S will embarrass a nismo isn't even funny. And if you take a standard gtr, my '20 M5 competition will easily walk that, probably the nismo too. Look, I know that German horsepower isn't "different", it's just usually whatever number they're giving you is low, and it's actually at the wheels not the crank. So for example BMW says my car is 617/553. It's more than that at the wheels. Dinan measured 707 at the crank. Most dynos of stock cars are showing 640 or more at the wheels. So, it's mostly a joke I was making about "different". SMH...
@@sailguy0321 and what made me comment originally was when I had that Infiniti M45 with allegedly 335hp/336ftlbs a E500 raced me one day. I thought that on paper I had him, he has 302hp/I can't recall the torque. That car whipped me like it was a 60hp difference. I didn't know then what I know now, his 302hp was probably low, and WHP. My alleged 335ho was later downgraded to 325 and that was at the crank. So maybe about 275whp.
@@sailguy0321And the GTR got dogged on quickly by other cars in its class too. Nissan really just needs to step it up overall. This is coming from someone who's a Nissan guy too.
People tend to forget, that it's the same platform in the q line but with revised turbos so nothing new here. S58 is just a better engine/trans. Also, the heat exchanger in the new z is so f'ing small, thus after one pull it'll heat-soak reason why the second race was much more divided in length. Dealerships want 65+ including markups, at that price range go with an M4 to completely dominate the opposition.
Seems about right. BMW underrates their HP numbers (as do most German manufactuers) while Nissan is usually pretty accurate. Stock M2's dyno ~465whp which is 520hp at the flywheel. That's a 15% underrating zee Germans are doing.
I would take the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing over either. Certainly over the Nissan. Plus you get 4 doors in a car with slightly less weight than the M2. And if you want a proper sports car, get a Corvette! You can probably get the Stingrays for less than MSRP now.
I hope everyone else recognizes the fact that these two guys start every race almost perfectly-it plays an intrical part in the relevance of these races ¿`_
As usual, BMW is underrating their engine output. I am curious about the red color on the M2. When you go to BMW's website, I don't see that red (Immola Red II?).
The M2 is $20-30k more here in New Zealand, maybe a tune and mild bolt ons and tires with that excess coin would put the Z on the same level. Nonetheless, I had my eyes on the Z coming out and have lost all enthusiasm in purchasing one haha.
For Nissan/Infiniti fans, the recipe is simple. Acquire the car, set up an appointment with Z1 Motorsport, tell them your intentions, cut the appropriate check, and go have fun. Yes, a BMW with work will still give you hell, but those guys have been making Nissan and Infiniti cars shock people for over 2 decades now.
I would love to see the Jaguar Type R go up against some proper sports cars with less power, like a Corvette Stingray or an M2. Also, I only saw the Nissan Z drag race the Supra before the 20hp increase of the NISMO, you could be the first ones to do that drag race.
In Canada, the prices are right on top of each other. One would have to be completely nuts to buy the Nissan over this M2. Not to mention that you can actually get a manual in the M2 if that is your preference. If anything, buy a base Z, add a rear diff and mod it for $10K to out pace this Nismo.
Just realised that these are virtually the same price bracket. Ouch! Though the Z's a refresh, the m2 should have just been one itself & now that m2 is the epitome of "It's what's inside that counts"
The M2 is obviously the superior performing car... but id still take the Z if we are comparing them as street cars that might go to the track occasionally. Modern cars are so fast now, the difference in speed doesn't really matter. I go to the track quite often and most people never drive their cars on track and of the ones who do, most cant even come close to driving them at their limit. So unless you are in that small percentage of people who car really wheel a car at the limit.... Pick the car you simply like more. The Z is plenty fast enough, its waaay better looking, and it has a very enjoyable driving feel. If you pick the M2 purely because its "faster"... Its probably not, because you probably can't beat a really good driver in a Z if you were in the M2.

Almost every other manufacturer does hp to the crank. Time to change up your game gentlemen
This is the best head-to-head drag race format on the Internet. Switching drivers and lanes, the "U" track, the long straight, just so cool. Oh, and that M is just awesome!!
Let's be real, the BMW has 100hp more. It's not secret BMW always underrate their Hp numbers.
Not 100. Like 30 more on the wheels.
My 2024 X3M non comp makes 456 AWD HP stock. M2 is rear-wheel drive with less drivetrain losses. Even with the less powerful version of S58, M2 puts down impressive power.
These videos are awesome. Love the shot of the cars coming in hot, side by side, on the breaks.
Makes sense why the nismo is more nimble. In Phoenix we have some engineers who test them at local Autocross events and they have worked dialing the chassis. That M2 though just seems like a track weapon though.
Since it's the same platform as every rwd. BMW, no.
@@RitwikDutta And if the Nismo wasn't 100hp down... its run what you brung, not what ifs. You also can't compare TW ratings from different manufacturers, its not setup that way.
C&D's new driver isn't really pro level, he's more weekend warrior than track rat. He's good in any car, but not great when it comes to certain cars he tends to lose confidence in corners but give him time and he should improve
You forgot that this is the base m2 not at cs or csl edition coming later, the nismo was built for the track, the m2 wasn't.
@@hpickettz34 The M2 is made to be a track car. They just offer variants to be even more track focused. Similar to how gt3 is made to be a track car, but the gt3 rs is even more tracked focused.
The interior in the Z looks like a 90s hynundai in quality.
Agreed. Horrid.
As opposed to the exterior, which looks like a 2010s Hyundai. =P
@@Dartheomus the exterior looks amazing, yall m kids dk ride one brand too hard its ok to like another car yall act like anything that isnt a m is damn rc car lmfao. When u get ur money up guranteed ur tone will change real quick n then u will be riding a new brand.
And bnw looks like from 80s
@@Sideways_Singh When I get my money up to buy a nissan? I could buy 5 of those cars today if I wanted. No way would I waste my money on it. Personally I don't want the BMW either, but I was just pointing out that the Nissan just looks cheap.
Love these races, very useful! The only thing I'd like added in these videos are the prices as the cars sit in the race.
0:35 they show "price as tested"
M 240i is Nizmo competitor
M240 is Z Sport competitor.
@@layne4376 m240 is smoking Z easily. Nismo would be perfect match
@layne4376 the nismor isn't really more power it's better handling so the m240i is a better competitor unless they came out with a nismor rs
@@occckid123 But that is reality. The standard Z is a competitor. This Nismo competes with the M2 - they are the same price. Nissan overpriced this car and dropped the ball in adding more power. I won't even discuss the crappy 9 speed transmission but suffice to say that this Nismo is no more a competitor to the M240 than it is to the M340. They weigh within 50 lbs of each other, have the same motor, trans, etc. If you gander at Car and Driver's Lightning Lap you will see that the current Nismo Z and M2 are right on top of each other for lap times whereas the M240 is 7 seconds slower or in track speak, an eternity. Nismo is Nissan's 'M' brand not 'M Lite' brand.
@@povboy009 Nope. According to Car and Driver's Lightning Lap the Nismow is 7 seconds quicker per lap than the M240. In a 5 lap comparison, the M240 would be 35 seconds behind. It isn't even close. And I drive an M340 which is 50 lbs heavier than the M240. It is quick in a straight line but these two aren't great handling cars. And what are you smoking - even in acceleration, the Nismo is a couple of 10ths quicker in the quarter mile will running noticeably higher trap speeds.
the fact they're the same price is crazy. the Nismo Z is cool, and im glad they made it but its really not in the same league
This video was perfect for me--both newer gen models of what I own/used to own. A 350z back in the mid 2000s and now own an F87 M2C. These cars are in different leagues but both dominate in their segments. You cannot go wrong with either car. I remember when my 350z HR was $27K MSRP before this inflation took over haha. You really can't go wrong with either one if the price is right!
Haha I bought my 2007 manual HR for 27k nzd (around 50-60k originally here) 3 years ago, still going strong and your M2 Comp is my dream car, maybe I’ll get there one day!
@@currarwhitham-field5213 you will get there! both are fun cars. enjoy your HR while you have it, I miss the unique purrrr sound of the VQ.
Sounds like the M2 is a beast, but the Nismo is a pretty damn good drivers car. If you're racing, get the car that wins races. If you just like to enjoy the drive, the Z might be a pretty compelling alternative.
If you could get the Z in a manual, I might agree.
@@layne4376 you can, just not the Nismo (at least not yet).
They'll give us manual Z nismo. It's just a matter of time.
@@layne4376 manual is slower dummy
Did u fully turn off traction fully in the nismo 400z Like the m2 I didn’t see, it was just put in sport + for the z and for the m2 it was completely off
This channel series needs to include older stock cars with modern tires!!!!!!! Might be interesting. I'd love to see a stock C5 Z06 vs these cars for perspective. That's just one of many cool match ups!!!!!!
Would be nice if you guys included which tires were used in your testing. Tires do without a doubt affect numbers/times.
great suggestion, I'll see if we can fit going forward. For now here's what each car was running;
Nismo
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600
255/40 R19 f, 285/35 R19 r
M2
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
275/35 R19 f, 285/30 R20
@@jonathanelfalan4866 Great thanks
Love my G87, probably the fastest thing you can but for under $70k new (other than the EVs), excellent interior quality, and I can still throw my kids in the back. I think the Nissan is priced ok for it's performance, but the M2 is an absolute bargain for what you are getting
Nismo Vs Supra has to be next.
My bet is that the Nismo will still lose to the Supra(BMW Z4).
Supra is virtually on the same platform as the M2. That would be a bloodbath.
S58 motor for the win.
I love watching videos of my car beating on other cars
Haha same
But how ugly is it though!! Very...
@@JacesOwnWorld way better looking than that slow pos mini station wagon you got. Looks like one of those small smart cars🤣
@@blackfish4674my Supra looks 10 times better than your boxed out m2 😂and still get smoked by my whip and cry about it
A more fair race would be with the m340 but yeah the s58 is probably the best 6 cylinder engine in the world right now
Would love to see a track comparison between the two
I love these videos!!!
The M2 is a beast but I'd take the Z car home.
Can you share what camera mounts were used inside the cars- so know which ones not to buy?
Years ago I had an Infiniti M45. I learned then that German horsepower is different. I have a '20 M5 competition now, no more pretend Japanese horsepower. The Z probably has 350WHP, the M2 probably has at least 453WHP.
Guess Nissan GTR horsepower must be different from German horsepower too. smh
I love the Nissan Z, but their biggest flaw is their ridiculous price tags.
Not surprised, that Z looks good tho and the M2 looks have really grown on me
Need to compare using auto M2. Auto faster than the manual even with these results. M2 has been measures 530hp at the crank and it shows.
Wow! Shocker! Looking forward to Hellcat v Camry next time
This test is actually better than just a quarter mile drag races.
I would take the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing over either. Certainly over the Nissan. Plus you get 4 doors in a car with slightly less weight than the M2. And if you want a proper sports car, get a Corvette! You can probably get the Stingrays for less than MSRP now.
Lol, no…
wish y'all were testing the manual M2 vs the manual z
The S58 in the M2 is a monster of a motor. The Z stood no chance.
Toronto Red
The M2 is $20-30k more here in New Zealand, maybe a tune and mild bolt ons and tires with that excess coin would put the Z on the same level. Nonetheless, I had my eyes on the Z coming out and have lost all enthusiasm in purchasing one haha.
I have not watched the video or read any comments but I already know who won.
M2
M2 acceleration numbers were significantly better than when it raced against the C8, how was the overall time worse now?
Surface temps, air temps, track conditions like dust, sand, etc
The fact that the as-tested MSRP is almost identical between these two cars is just……yeah.
I haven't even watch this yet and I know that M2 is going to murder that Z.
Supra vs M2? B58 vs S58 anyone? Do a manual and an automatic U drag. Thanks as always for the great races.
It's the F type R's last year in production. Could we see it compared to the M2 or M3 .
That 370 putting down that 420 at the timing chain😮.
Why do people turn off traction control on a launch when they’re just going to spin tires ?
Last Z that had racing dna was the Z33 even the NISMO 380RS from 2007 is far better than the new nismo and supra gr
Before even watching I know the M2 is going to dummy that Z. Hell…an M240 would smoke the Z too. And 67k for a Nissan? No thanks.
Gràcies per el vídeo!!!
Salutacions des de Mallorca Bros!!!
Alobiuu Willy Boom!!!
you guys should do explore st vs durango srt not the track hawk
S58 is such powerhouse..!!
Wanna see ‘M5Cs vs Rs7 performance’
I would love to see the Jaguar Type R go up against some proper sports cars with less power, like a Corvette Stingray or an M2. Also, I only saw the Nissan Z drag race the Supra before the 20hp increase of the NISMO, you could be the first ones to do that drag race.
Liking the U-Drag element ....match the cars better as the M2 was always going to win..
Not just HP, gearing as well.
Two amazing cars love to have one😊
3:52 no!.. driver matters
I want to see rs3 vs m2
What’s a Nee Song??
Didn’t even watch the video yet and knew the M2 would be victorious 😅
That M2 is sooo underrated in advertised HP
It would be interesting to see Dyno numbers for each considering BMW typically undervalues hp numbers.
The Nismo should be priced in the low 60K to justify the performance deficit against the M2. Or at least give it more power.
Edmund please do a Camaro SS1LE VS Shelby GT350/R or VS the Mach I or VS the dark horse
I'd take the Nismo
Yeah, me too. Even though the M2 is much faster, I don't like the styling.
M2 punched the Z. In the face!!!😂❤😂
You guys should run the 2024 Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio (since it is its last year) vs. the 2024 BMW M3
Waste of time. And they did it already.
Can we see c8 Z06 vs C7 Z06 , or C6 Z06 ,ZR1
Nismo would win on a racetrack probably. Bmw is very powerful in straight line.
Not true. Nismo has fuel starvation on a track as you can see on Savage Geese. It is not at all good on a track.
Oh yay, more automatics and launch controls. Can’t wait to see theses two ECU’s race each other
S58T0 + ZF8HP75 >>
A shot of nos would be nice in z to match horsepower.
do the z vs 2023 or 24 supra
Just realised that these are virtually the same price bracket. Ouch! Though the Z's a refresh, the m2 should have just been one itself & now that m2 is the epitome of "It's what's inside that counts"
Nothing beats the M!!😮😮
You guys need to do the new Tesla model three performance against a BMW M3 comp
