- SPOILER ALERT! This is the final scene of BBC North & South, featuring the famous kiss, but without the Henry Lennox character. If you don't want to know the ending, don't watch!
Dialogue:
Thornton: Where are you going?
Margaret: To London. I've been to Milton.
Thornton: You'll not guess where I've been. hands her the rose
Margaret: To Helstone? I thought those had all gone!
Thornton: I found it in the hedgerow. You have to look hard. pause Why were you in Milton?
Margaret: On business. That is, I have a business proposition. Oh dear, I need Henry to help me explain.
Thornton: stops her You don't need Henry to explain.
they sit down
Margaret: I have to get this right. It's a business proposition. I have some 15,000 pounds. It's lying in the bank at present, earning very little interest. Now, my financial advisors tell me that if you were to take this money and use it to run Marlborough Mills, you could give me a very much better rate of interest. So you see, it is only a business matter. You would not be obilged to me in any way. It is you who would be doing me the service.
THE KISS
Speaker: London train about to depart. London train about to depart.
Margeret leaves, then returns
Thornton: Coming home with me?
When she's explaining the business deal you can tell he's not evening listening to her - all he is thinking about is how much he loves her. This is the first time in the whole movie that he actually looks happy...it's almost too beautiful to bear.
Совершенно согласна
Да,ладно))))
I like this scene very much
❤
I’m probably responsible for half of the views on this video. 😂 I can’t get enough of how gentle he is. This scene just warms my heart.
Lol I’m just about the other half 😅
Well y'all better split that again!
Me toooo
Hahaha 😂 same 😊
and again❤
I've lost count of how many times I've seen this scene.... and even today my heart skips a beat when I see it.
Me too 😊
Me too😂
Meeeee toooo
thanks Richard Armitage for the most romantic love scene ever!!...his eyes, his smile, the atmosphere between them....makes me want to cry everytime :')
"You're coming home with me?" The genuine gentle surprise and relief, is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️ Richard was superb in this role.
Have always loved this scene!! Richard was fab as Thornton. Reminds me of a certain Mr Darcy! Ha Ha!
Sweet...
Needed him more in period romances. I also think he'll suit Mr. Darcy's role so much.
i honestly couldn't breathe this whole scene...i have seen my fair share of romantic movies and plays and....the way he looks at her is indescribably magical. richard armitage is...perfection.
His facial acting is astonishing. Just a flicker, his brow rising - it conveys so much. And I love the setup of the shot - exposing his neck and stubbly jaw throughout the kiss, beautiful. And Danielas' making Margaret so nervous and overcome... I have butterflies and can't stop replaying this!
I love this ending! They literally come together on a middle ground, somewhere between Milton and Helston ;) it’s not South, neither is it North. It’s like they broke through their prejudices and can choose where they want to be together. Absolutely lovely!!!
He meets her in London at her home in the book. A beautiful ending too but I like the TV adaptation ending too.
I never thought of the symbolism before, that’s awesome!
I never thought that way, it's very lovely
That is awesome symbolism. If we put our technology down and truly watch movies we get so much more out of them. Great observation!
Yes indeed, they are equals in circumstances. Margaret though richer than Thornton's opposite their situation during first proposal, they become now equal with their love for one another. She even kisses his hand, adapting the Milton way perhaps exceeding it.❤
They have just so good chemistry together. Everytime they were together on screen throughout the series, the air was electrifying!
I have no idea how she managed to be so coherent with RA looking at her that tenderly. Oh, to be Margaret in that moment!
this is in my opinion one of the most moving love scenes!! Both actors are great and SO expressive, but Richard is really amazing, how without moving many face muscles he expresses different emotions, wow. I admire this about this series. And he is sooo handsome ^^
Can you imagine his confusion and heartbreak when she walks away without a word? The whole rest of his life stretching out in front of him with just a searingly beautiful memory...and then she comes back to him.
I know! I know! I love that scence too! I just finished tonight, watching that scene over and over again!! Did they not have the greatest passion and chemistry that I have ever seen on screen!!!!
That is what I held my breath until she returns to him with her Suitcase. This ending Scene I have seen countless times but yet not tired of it. Both Richard Armitage & Danniella Ash are the best matched couple ever on screen.
The music is so spot on leading up to the kiss. It's smooth but kind of reflects Margaret's anxiety and hope, and then the low piano strains break in as if to represent Thornton's calm assertiveness. Perfect!
I agree! I think the harp ostenato underpins everything and brings a youthful hopeful energy with just enough passion to resonate with those deep piano chords. The piano reminds me of the longing John had when he was saying “look back at me” and now his dreams are fulfilled😍
I just wanted to say that I completely appreciate you editing Henry out, straight to the GOOD STUFF!
Word!
🤣

Agreed xD
Великолепный поцелуй
I can't think of a better happily-ever-after scene, from Margaret's mumbling and fumbling, to Thornton's laser beam gaze (oh, and then there's the kiss...), on top of the best little piece of music that makes the moment that much sweeter. I've watched this 4 times in the past two days, and I find myself holding my breath every time!
Everything, their looks, the hand hold, the music... so subtle and beautiful!
You can really feel how seeing eachother again after months and months apart affects them, like time stops, the world stops moving around them. Margaret has lost so many people, and John has lost so much too. At long last, they have each other, completely and wholeheartedly. Everything can be okay now for them. It's so beautiful
I wish a man looked at me like that. I think you can really only achieve that kind of loving look in real life from your pet dog. ;)
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
😅😅😅
You're wrong about getting that look from only a dog!!! You, the person from the distant past, of the glorious pre-Covid, pre-Trump, pre-Russian-invasion-of Ukraine days!..
. You can ALSO get that look from a cat
great now I can’t unsee Thornton as a pet dog
I just love this movie. I watch the ending over and over. It is just so beautiful and romantic. The way their love for each other shines in their faces.
I watch this scene constantly. Love this edited version. His expression when she kisses his hand is my favourite. Swoon!!
I think this is probably the most romantic scene I've ever seen. It's just so perfect!
Oh yes, Richard, we are all coming home with you. ...😁🥰
😆😆🤣
😅☝️👍
Bit old for D'Arcy now but he is yummy.always will be but needed more costume dramas.hes not available to women tho..
@@CatElse that doesnt matter at all. we can always dream
I absolutely agree!! Richard Armitage oozes over with love that it's almost too much to bear, especially after having watched the movie, you just feel so happy to see that poor fellow smile. They had such a chemistry!!! LOVE IT!!!
I just can't get enough of the ending. The way they met at the train station, the way they looked at each other and the inability to speak coherently it's just way off the chart. love it love it love it.
I was rooting for these two introverts to make each other happy the entire time. It was so obvious they’re a perfect match! You can see that when she offers to support and save the mill he’s happy about that of course but happier because he realises she loves him.
The best sequence and kiss in the history of Cinema... definitely she DIDN'T need Henry to explain!!!
I agree none better
This scene always manages to make me smile like an idiot. It's so sweet! I wish I had a Mr. Thornton! If I were Margaret, I'd never have gotten up from that bench. I love this movie.
Best. Love. Scene. Ever. Bar none. Beautiful acting by both actors. With all due respect to Darcy and Elizabeth, this one blows them away.
Probably unpopular opinon, but for me this is the most romantic scene ever in the history of fiction, along with the famous quote from Wentworth's letter from Persuasion:''You pierce my soul..I am half agony ,half hope..."'
And the proposal scene in Jane Eyre.
This scene is not in the book...
This is the most romantically wonderful scene. I have watched North and South over and over. Richard Armitage is an awesome romantic lead!!
Best kissing scene ever., this is the way the first Kiss should ever be for any couple. Unforgettable!
I used to think that too...and you always get from people "that kind of love doesn't really exist" But I promise you it does. I watched this scene a couple years ago before I met my current fiance and I dreamed that someone would look at me like that and kiss me so tenderly...and it came true. It is true that it's rare but once you find it there's nothing like it. I hope everyone should be so lucky as me to have that kind of love :)
Replying 15 years later!!!! Agreed... my husband loves me like this and we are coming at 28 years married
I saw this movie years ago! And now looking at the last scence! "Oh, when she kisses his hand!" And then the look on his face, when he thought that she was going to leave! This is what true acting is! This is was good and clean love scences are all about! The movie is excellent!
Oh my god. This most be the most addicting scene ever. You cant help but click the replay again and again.
this is probably the most beautiful kiss onscreen, EVER. *melts*
This is so romantic and intensely wonderful. Not even Mr Darcy matches up to this moment.
Incredible acting by both. Watch it over and over. Lovely
This is one of my favourite TV Movies. I have no account of how many times I have seen this ending Scene. Both Daniella & Richard have acted superb.
Omg!! How he's looking at her!! I think that's the very way a man should look at the woman he loves to make her feel safe and protected!! Amazing job!! Wonderful actors! Can't stop crying like an idiot every time i watch this episode! Bravo!!
"I found them in the hedgerow, you had to look hard" He sounds so in love, I love the way he says this... And the way he looks at her at the end! I've seen that look on Richard's characters a few times and it makes me melt every single time... Love you Richard!!
This is one of the most moving and wonderful scenes to end a drama ever.
Thanks for deleting Henri, I had to turn my face away from him in the series!! So happy to find this scene here, I'm like the others who have written, I have watched it endless times, and it never gets old. One of the most beautiful love scenes in all of cinema in my opinion. I just watched the whole film the other night, and now wanted to see one--or two--or three times, this one! Thanks again for posting!!
I always image what must go true his head the moment she grabs his hands after he has been hoping for so long she will love him back
I think what makes this scene so perfect- is that you've waited for it for 4 hours- and it doesn't disappoint at all. Unlike the Coling Firth Version of Pride and Prejudice (don't get me wrong I own it on DVD and watch it regularly!) I always think at the end- come on Colin, you can do that a wee bit better!
anyway it's fabulous!
R.A. is amazing- "You don't need Henry to explain." His voice gets so alluring!
Yes, that awkward kiss at the end of p&p was disappointing. I think many females of a certain age yearn for the innocence of old fashioned romance. Impossible these days. Once the 60s arrived. 😊
I love how he isn't listening to her when she is talking about her business proposition. He is just staring at her in love!
This is truly one of, if not the best ‘period’ kisses that I have seen! The acting and the music are simply brilliantly done!!!👌🏾🎶❤️
The wonderful music pulls it all together
Agreed... and on rewatching many a times, I think it's so incredible how chord changes happen to describe the inner conversations happening. Like when she gets up, and John looks then turns his head... the hope changes. Same also with Henry.
I love how her voice begins to shake when he reaches to take her hand. My ex always knew that touching me was the easiest way for me to end my speech. And the way she kissed his hand & the tender look on his face...so glorious
That kiss is everything !
The way his deep voice resonates, in that accent... oh gosh. And the way he looks at her and kisses her, with such sweet tenderness... I was reduced to a pile of goo. All throughout the drama I was like "oh Margaret you silly girl, just admit to yourself you like him already!"
This one can be watched over and over....and over and over...LOL Such a handsome man he is. He plays all the characters quite well. Thornton is by far one of my favorites. Can't believe it took me so long to ever see this film. How many more are out there that have yet to see this???? No wonder there are soooo many Richard Armitage fan sites up and running. There is quite a lot to say about him....
The most romantic ending ever.Such a wonderful series that I watched over and over.. The look John gives Margaret and the soft stroking of her head where she was wounded by a rock just does me in. Its a beautiful piece of acting by both of them. I believe for some reason they had to shoot that scene over again and in an interview Daniela Denby Ashe say ... " reshooting was a tough job." LOL!
Love the music for this scene.
Just wrote this in reply to another comment. Agreed... and on rewatching many a times, I think it's so incredible how chord changes happen to describe the inner conversations happening. Like when she gets up, and John looks then turns his head... the hope changes. Same also with Henry.
I'm smiling like an idiot by the end if this....soooo sweet he isn't even listening to said proposition, just looking at her....AWWW
my o my after the scene of "look back, look back at me" the best!!!! totally love this mini-serie, wonderful actors (especially richard) and wonderful story!!!
Now, how did Mr. Thornton learn to kiss like THAT, I wonder? He is SOOOO good ... now I want to see what happens next!
This is pure, unselfish love at its finest. Excellent!
I loved watching this on DVD and I can't wait to buy it. I thought both Richard Armitage and Daniella Denby were fantastic in their roles. One of my favourite ever period dramas. And I've seen quite a few!
Beautiful acting, beautiful music...well done!
Plus she could be reading a list of train departures and he'd still be sitting there gazing at her like that, SO LOVELY.
Oh my... everything is wonderful about this scene, the music, the actors, the characters, WOW!!! North and South is utterly amazing.
I love the way he says "Why where you in Milton", damn you richard damn you
daniela denby- ashe just acts just so well. you can feel margaret's hesitations, excitement, her deeper feelings by her acting. bravo!
Thanks for posting an edited version. This has got to be the best ending EVER! best KISS ever! i was hooked on P&P but I think N&S is my new drug! Love love love this movie, the acting was superb, the cast was perfect and the music is phenominal. Can't wait to read to book!
THIS!!! THIS SCENE LIVES ON REPLAY IN MY BRAIN🥰🥰🥰💕💕💕💕💕
Thank god for this edited version! I used to skip parts with henry in it and this saves me all the trouble!! I've probably watched this scene a hundred times already and it never fails to make my heart skip a beat!!! The way he looks at her....his smile when he first saw her...their kiss inside the train...the amazing musical score...WOW!! Perfect ending!
Ha ha and when I see Henry, I’m like as if you didn’t know she loved him.
This series made me discover fanfiction.. I couldn't get enough of Mr. Thornton and Margaret's love story that I turned the internet inside out looking for more stories about them.😂 Every year thereafter, I'd come back to watch my favourite scenes.
SAME! I've read some good and bad fanfic just wanting more.
You said my sentiments EXACTLY. I watched this on Netflix. And it made me think of a Bible verse: ...the way of a man with a maid. Thinking in all probability this was her first kiss, and what a beautiful progression, similar to the beginning of lovemaking when it is the first time, and the passion builds. I love takes his hand and kisses it. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.
Ah the music is just breathtaking though, it really adds to the scene perfectly. It's like all sweet and longing but anxious, too, kind of reflecting Margaret at this point, and then the low piano piece breaks in and represents the calm, assertive Thornton. They got it so right!
This video is my bedtime story when i cant sleep, it always send me to bed with happy thoughts of love and tenderness *sigh*
loved North & South - he was perfection in it.
Love this scene - it is the best possible ending so romantic - and I loved that she came to his aid - I want to read the book - but watching him in it - what can you say your eyes never leave the screen. Thank you for the video - I just got the movie a few weeks ago.
I adored this series. So highly recommended.
Wow, such a masterpiece. All the elements of the story are blending in harmony.....
I remember seeing this and I felt every moment. Love this movie 🍿
I have not seen this series and i wish i could as the odds and bits i watched turned me into a Richard Armitage fan he is such a good actor and a handsome man after i saw him again in his latest roles i was amazed to see he has not changed and he remains beautiful and charming and of course goes on acting perfectly well.
Oh yeah! I'm coming home with you Mr. Thornton!
Thanks for taking Henry out!!
God, I love this miniseries!
Beautiful music, beautiful man, swoon every time.
Самый прекрасный момент этого потрясающего фильма!! Актеры играют превосходно! Замечательная музыкальная композиция!)
I've seen this like a hundred times now n each time I just melt like butter
Literally the best romance scene in the history John Thornton is an amazing male lead goes from hot tempered businessman to the ultimate love that's real passion and love right there
Oh my gooosh, most adorable scene ever, end of story. Makes my hear jump for joy every time.
My favorite period drama. They are both gorgeous.
Best most powerful scene ever - EVER- of any movie- and I’ve watched a ton of movies. This one just nails it 💯
Goh hoe hij naar haar kijkt, geweldig. Prachtige film.
I truly love this scene. It is one of my favorite
He has the Best hands. I just had to add that.
And the look he gets on his face when she's kissing his hand is perfect. And the Look on his face when she gets up to leave, makes me want to comfort him- and I would gladly. :]
Oh, I just love this almost as much as I love Richard Armitage/John Thornton. It was my first intro to N+S, just after Christmas and seeing him on the VOD. I've since bought the divine DVD, but I adore this scene - the edit is inspired! Thankyou!
I bought the DVDs too. Solid investment.
I bought the DVD too
I own the DVD! Simply fab!! RA is soooooo handsome!
Your coming home with me the most romantic and heartful sentence ❤❤❤
By the way, Thornton says "You can guess where I've been" before handing her the flower. I really love this movie so much...I wish I could meet a gentleman like that(and having an accent wouldn't hurt his chances...)
Thanks for editing the other guy out-makes it much better :) I wish there was a North & South 2 as I'd like to see how after the marriage Margaret deals w/the mother .... I could see them adding onto t his story....
I don't think I would even be able to talk coherently if he was looking at me like that haha
I agree with you completely! The love story builds you up so much that by the time they finally kiss you dream about it for days on end. Mr. Thornton, Mr. Darcy, Captain Wentworth...there should be lessons for men ( and for women for that matter) taken from these novels.
GAH *melts into giant puddle*
I'm not sure where I read this but apparently when RA was asked how he managed to do such a great on screen kiss he responed with something like "she's a beautiful woman it wasn't difficult'
LOVE
Aww that's really sweet haha. I love Richard ❤️🥰
I had always liked him and was watching a few Austen fanvids on here and this was in the bar - and I was floored. A real man. Yes you MUST watch it, it's beautiful! He talks about it being too rash etc but has decided he "must follow his heart"
This is such a beautiful scene! Oh to be kissed like that by someone sooo gorgeous! Thanks.
Beautiful...
And yes, who can bear that look?? so sweet
Richard Armitage plays Mr Thornton amazingly..
Tks for the vid..;)
Beautiful ending to a loveld drama. Very well edited thanks.
Thank you for cutting out all the unwanted distracting parts! This was very nice!
OH. MY. GOODNESS.
When he says, "You don't need Henry to explain"
*swoon!*
Haha...I loved how you cut Henry out of the whole scene :] I loved this scene - so beautiful! Thank you!
Thanks for uploading! I love this scene...now someone just needs to upload the "Look back at me" scene to make me completely happy ^_^
