Pacific Rim Movie Description:
Long ago, legions of monstrous creatures called Kaiju arose from the sea, bringing with them all-consuming war. To fight the Kaiju, mankind developed giant robots called Jaegers, designed to be piloted by two humans locked together in a neural bridge. However, even the Jaegers are not enough to defeat the Kaiju, and humanity is on the verge of defeat. Mankind's last hope now lies with a washed-up ex-pilot (Charlie Hunnam), an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) and an old, obsolete Jaeger.
Pacific Rim is a 2013 American science fiction monster film directed by Guillermo del Toro, starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman, and the first film in the Pacific Rim franchise. The screenplay was written by Travis Beacham and del Toro from a story by Beacham. The film is set in the not-too-distant future, when Earth is at war with the Kaijus, colossal sea monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers, gigantic humanoid mechas, each controlled by two co-pilots whose minds are joined by a mental link. Focusing on the war's later days, the story follows Raleigh Becket, a washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and teamed with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch effort to defeat the Kaiju and their secret masters once and for all.
Principal photography began on November 14, 2011, in Toronto and lasted through to April 2012. The film was produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. It was released on July 12, 2013, in 3D and IMAX 3D, receiving generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its performances, direction, action sequences, visual effects, musical score, and nostalgic style. While it underperformed at the box office in the United States, it was highly successful in other markets, thus becoming a box office success. It earned a worldwide total of more than $411 million-earning $114 million in China alone, its largest market-becoming Del Toro's most commercially successful film. The film is regarded as an homage to kaiju, mecha, and anime media.
A sequel titled Pacific Rim Uprising was released on March 23, 2018, with Universal Pictures distributing.

One doesn't watch Pacific Rim for the superb acting or airtight plot. One watches Pacific Rim to watch the fucking incredible robot/alien fights. I would of course like it to be overall more solid, but the action 100% redeems the whole thing for me. It's just so fun
sadly they arent aliens(they come from another side of earth's dimension)
I don't think that's necessarily true. It has deceptively strong characters with deep emotional connections. The whole backbone of the concept is how different kinds of love tie us together. The plot and the characters are just more focused on saving the world.
Just watch it as it is, a live action kaiju anime. Best dumb movie in my book.
As we like to call them over here, Dick Flicks.
Movies that are pure testosterone and action where you don't really care about acting or any love nonsense. We just wanna see stuff blow up.
There is good character motivation in this film though. Lots of trauma everyone over comes and realize it's not about them but the world.
It's even better in 3D
You know this movie is good when someone goes out of their way to miss the point and nitpick and still winds up enjoying it
facts
Yeah lmao
I mean of course she acts like a child because she's still dealing with unhealed trauma. A lot of adults are the same. She only tends to get like that around Idris character because of how she sees him. It automatically takes her back to the tragedy that happened
Got the feeling that’s going over his head, to sorta be fair 99% of people I’m sure missed the fact humanity started losing the war because of that accidental hit to the head told the hive mind the CRITICAL weak spot of the jaegers being the human pilots
Then when the first double event happens, that EMP attack is there because Newton knew how the jaegers worked and told the hive mind the weakness of each of them, Alpha: acid, typhoon, again hit the head with a fast sudden attack. That tail was special designed to crush only the head of the Jaeger, Striker EMP it. Jipsy gets away cause newton doesn’t know much about her presumable as she hasn’t been in the field in forever
Yeah even without the trauma most of us act differently around our parents. Especially if you already have the kind of relationship where the parent has a hard time seeing you as an adult, like with Mako and Stacker.
Another thing to point out is that she is also Japanese, they act child-like even at that age.
The cockpit sets being practical really helped sell the machines as being real. Del Toro is so good at this sort of decision making.
so true, to bad he didnt made the 2nd movie. No wonder why the 2nd movie sucked so bad
@atesz567 what second movie?
The composer for this movie is Ramin Djawadi, the same man who composed most of Game of Thrones' music. Man is talent incarnate 🤌🤌
There is no "Pacific Rim 2" in Ba Sing Se.
EVERYONE IS SAFE!!!
Pacific Rim was absolutely a love-letter to the Mecha anime of Japan in the 80s and 90s. There's a ton of references, but the most overt is Evangelion.
Also, fun fact, Ellen McClaine who voiced GladOS from the Portal game series voices Gypsy Danger's onboard computer, as GladOS.
Guillermo Del Toro said he hasn't watched Evangelion tho
@@paperclip6377 Evangelion is so iconic that you don't have to ever have watched it to know that it's a mecha anime, I've never watched it but I can tell if something is inspired by it.
@@StoatoftheSouth but how could he have been inspired by it if he never watched it?
What I'm saying is that I've never watched it either but I know enough about it, he might've been the same- never actually watched it but knows what it is & what it's about to be able to create something similar to it@@paperclip6377
@@paperclip6377 For the exact same reason i know about it, I have never watched evangelion, i know it's about mechas and that's it, they literally just explained that to you
Quick note on why they waited on the sword, they didnt want to use the sword earlier because the blood is supposed to be extremely toxic, so using the sword "could" cause a lot more damage long term and blunt damage from punching/beating wont leave as much blood leaking.
Also just like in giant mecha anime, you don't pull out the "FORM BLAZING SWORD" until absolutely necessary, and usually at the last minute because it's just more bad-ass that way!
it's just named sword, no fancy names, just sword.
@@MCRBLXPlayer ''Chainsword''
Gipsy had a chainsword which is technically a whip.
@@riko11096 exactly, not a "kaiju killer"
21:43 He was referring to hiding in a public refuge rather than a private bunker. He tried the public refuge once during an attack and that's why his face got messed up. Love the vids man!❤❤❤
18:50 it was planned to have 4 arms, but there were no available quadruplets as actors.
I actually really liked this movie... the sequel not so much. Hunnam did an amazing job, imo.
Y'all really are delusional thinking there's a sequel. 🤣
Sequel is terrible. Glad they didn't make another one, even though they teased it.
@@BlueTeam-John-Fred-Linda-Kelly Uh, cause there was. Starred John Boyega and Scott Eastwood.
@@Tygermite I'm still curious how they would make it happen and what the storyline would be like. But if it didn't bring back Hunnam, it would have been DOA.
@@rylanmalis1162 There is NO Pacific Rim Sequel, we all agreed on That.
It’s kind of ridiculous how good this movie is. It’s such a solid sci fi/action film, you can’t go wrong.
27:48 kiju blood is toxic, thats why they dont use the sword, but in space its aight
I always assumed they had to conserve their power.
@@TheMarvelousM Its a walking Nuclear Reactor, What Power? it create its own and for example, our aircraft carrier are refuel every 25 years on a 50 years lifespan. we can assume it wont ran out of power. and why they dont use the sword is like he said , toxic blood but theres the fact that its not a weapon included on the Og Yeager so Riley didnt know about it and Mako installed it but is under heavy stress and have to focus so she forgot
@@chosela2488 idk
Please don’t watch the second one it’s absolute garbage compared to the first, but IM SO HAPPY YOU WATCHED THIS GEM I LOVE YA MELLO🥰🥰
U know it ain't but of course it's your own opinion
Second one? What second one?
@@Brainrage117the second Pacific rim wasn't that bad but unfortunately some actors and some parts made the movie a bit rusty but.... Things were changed and kind of blurred the movie a bit when it came to story and the original purpose of the storyline but at least it ain't that bad after all
Should watch it too appreciate this one that much more 🤣
Ya if you like a Wantabe transformer movie
Sure, it's predictable and cheesy, but that's why we love it. Cause it's supposed to be like those old mecha anime. Guillermo really loved them shows and wanted to put it on full display.
Heavily anime inspired, a love letter to mecha anime and old tokkusatsu flicks (a LOT better than what hollywood is doing with Godzilla). They do both genres absolute justice, it's just giant robots fighting giant monsters with Idris Elba and Ron Perlman sprinkles on top.
Given that there is no second movie, this is the favorite.
Wild to this day the CGI comparison to the latest flash CGI is mad fuckin crazy
Remember when they really tried using the vfx as a way to deflect from Ezra's bs? 😂😂😂
When you actually put love and care into a project instead of just trying to make Space Jam 2 but for DC characters.
@@billbill6094 damn, I liked Space Jam 2.
Directed by the one and only Guillermo del Toro!
Also the creator of ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ and ‘Pinocchio’
And also The Shape of Water
@@sugarplumsoda
Love that movie. The cinematography and camera movement is soothing!
damn bro its so rare to see movies like pacific rim CGI now😔
The reason the cgi looks so good is because Guillermo Del Torro was smart by making the battles happen during night or in darkness, which is a common way to cover up any shortcomings in the cgi. Rain and water helps as well with the added benefit of showing the scale.
Watching this in 4D was one of the best experiences ever
26:50 The reason the sword wasn't used is because kaiju blood is highly toxic and they risk contaminating the whole city with blood spill
My favorite details about the kiju is that once Newt drifts with the brain the kiju change. Before that they were all based on sea creatures because that's all the aliens knew of earth. Once they had access to Newt's knowledge of the rest of the planet they start looking like land animals. They are also able to take out the Russians and triplets so easily because they have Newt's knowledge of how they fight and the EMP for the Australians. Newt has never seen G. Danger fight and doesn't know how she works or how the two piolets will fight. That's why they are able to beat them kiju.
Saw this twice, once in IMAX and again in IMAX 3D.
The great Guillermo del Toro's love-letter to Sci-fi from Japan.
From the genres of Mecha (robot) and Kaiju (beast).
Because of shows like Power Rangers (Super Sentai), Voltron
(Beast King Golion/Dairuigger XV) and the Mazinger anime series;
machines and monsters have been going hand in hand, hand to hand for years.
The history within the movie itself is so well ploted.
How the world changed as these creatures came and the creations of
the Jaeger program became so advanced for battle against them.
Great ensemble cast with Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy),
Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) and Idris Elba with a epic speech of lifetime.
Remarkable sets from the cities to the Jaeger base.
Killer effects to make absolute prime goodness.
The fights.......
oh my god, the fights are plentiful to make our nerd dreams come true
especially when the tie-in video game was available.
In 2018, there was a sequel aka "Uprising" and didn't dissapoint neither,
although some would disagree.
Also an anime aka "The Black" on Netflix that ran 2 seasons.
This whole universe and franchise is as colossal as it should be.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time!!!! Ramin Djawadi made the soundtrack this master pies of soundtrack. Guillermo del Toro give us what we wanted and more.❤❤❤ My savage dream is to be inside a Jaeger!!!
i love how this movie makes any grown man feel like a child
his reactions were so child like its wholesome
It's an excuse to see giant robots punching giant kaiju, that's all it is and that's all I need. It's a pity they didn't make a sequel...because no sequel exists, don't bother searching.
A sequel would have been great man.😢it is what it is.
There’s a sequel you can watch. Since you wanna pretend
they did make a sequel and it sucks.
Sarcasm 😂@@bernadineshelbourne8915
@@bernadineshelbourne8915 theres an on-going joke that uprising doesn't exist
YES!!! One of my favorite movies of all time! Cant go wrong with a giant robot suit😭
It makes me laugh to see him flicking through getting the point of the movie and not getting the point of the movie. It goes from "that dialogue could have been better" to "oooo thats so coool" 😂
This DelToro took all the tropes from all the giant robot/monster animes and made a movie out of it. Its more of an homage.
Dude.....Imagine watchin this when it was first released
30:26 Mako looks at Stacker like her dad because she sees him as her father.
Off base she calls him father.
The reason why Otachi and Leatherback easily beat Cherno, Typhonn, and Stryker is because of Newt drifting, newt drifting allowed him to gain intel, but also allowed the Kaiju to get intel on the Jaegers and how to counter them, before they'd usually just try and maul and tear the jaegers apart, now they know to go for the head. It's also the reason why leatherback is a tank and has an EMP (to counter the Jaegers and a tank like Cherno) And with Otachi having acid to stun the jaegers and damage their systems, while having a tail to counter crimson typhoon.
I fell in love with this this movie because of the giant robots and Kaijus, the acting weeeeeell, like you pointed out they couldve done a lot better. Guess since I grew up watching Voltron and all those other old giant robots and monster shows when I was young. The Johnny Dangerously edit was classic, me and my sis always use the "ONCE, ONCE" line
My friends and I actually got talked into an early screening of this from our local movie theater. We never heard of it but we heard free movie and we were all for it. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED! This was just a fun movie that felt like a classic mecha anime and it was just fun coming in with zero expectations. I haven't seen the 2nd one and won't because of what I hear. This movie will always have a special place in my heart
During the sword scene, I screamed in the theather "OF COURSE THEY HAVE AF UCKING SWORD!" Then i remembered I was in public. I was so in that scene.
Ninja Assassin from 2009, its some good fun.
The animated Pacific Rim Show is amazing. I highly recommend you to watch it.
Cherno Alpha crew is rocking that Platinum Blonde hair. I am so fuckin jealous.
best part was the longest neural handshake
Kaiju blood is toxic which was established in the beginning of the movie. Sword is used for last resort since it spreads a bunch of blood.
Hell yeah, one of my favourite movies and so sad they didnt make another one.
*partly inspired by Neom Genesis Evangelion
I love your reactions, bro. Your intro is legendary, you’re amazing at editing, you have a studio, and best of all, you are so fucking funny!
I remember seeing this in theaters, still my favorite movie for 11 years
I'm been hoping to see another reaction to pacific rim, thank you
Great film and Great Reaction! Sucks we never got a sequel to this underrated masterpiece!
This is a big dumb monster movie. I LOVE IT!!! Went to see it opening night at the cinema.
I honestly LOVE this movie so much 😍
I used to love this movie when I was 11-12 years old
I still love it 😂
Haha same
Same when my aunt and her boyfriend going to my home and brought a good quality dvd for like 1 dollar
As a 30 year old, i still do 😂. But I’m also a Gundam and Evangalion fanatic soooo 😂
I love these new intros so much lmfao 😂
As a kid who grew up on Kaiju movies, I was so freaking happy to see this in theaters
helldivers 2 has very similar music and has humanity fighting against robots and giant bugs. I would definitely recommend it
Loved your reaction. You should watch society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one
Thank You! I Will Be Checking That Out
@@HelloMellowXVI looking forward to that then. Thank you for taking into account my suggestion
@@HelloMellowXVIPLEASE REACT TO "SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON"! It's a story about a strong, beautiful horse with a spirit that can never be broken. I cry every time i watch it! It's a INCREDIBLE film, and the songs are so cool! But it's not a musical and the animals can't talk. 😭💔🔥
12:17 Exactly man. Each of us has secrets we will take to the grave. So who the heck would be willing to let another human being see their entire life story and thoughts?
I love this movie watched it many times and will keep watching. Also i think the acting and story is good
the movie's acting is actually quite good for what they're doing; the plot is basic, the graphics are amazing, the practical effects are PHENOMENAL, and the script is fun to play with. no character here is under acting or overacting. they're playing their characters EXACTLY how they are, and how they should be.
This movie was the best 3D IMAX experience ive ever had.
I think you should check out the sequel movie, but be mindful that a lot of people hate this movie to their core just because it’s average compared to the first movie. Some even pretend it doesn’t exist but it isn’t that bad…
One of the BEST movies period.
I love the action in this movie, especially the camerawork. Well, the CGI camera for the action. They "grounded" the camera as if it was a real camera from either the ground perspective from the low angle shots, or if they did high angle shots they made it feel like a helicopter shot. It really put you into the world and made the Jaegers and Kaiju feel huge and real.
Unfortunately that was lost in the second movie. The second movie the camera felt like just a floating camera in most of the shots, and so it just felt like a video game CGI cinematic instead of trying to replicate something real.
BECKETT DIDNT KNOW GIPSY DANGER HAD SWORDS AS IT WAS AN UPGRADE AFTER HE RETIRED
This actually a faithful live action version of an anime story. which is why it seems simple or weird at times.
It'll take about 10 category 5 Kaiju to stand a chance against Godzilla.
This movie is tight but sweater is right!
To me this is peak CGI
I experienced that movie twice in theater in 3D, can't forget that
Saw this in the theater and was so fricking awesome! Yeah, not the best story or acting, but I went to see giant stompy robots fighting kaiju and was not disappointed. XD
This was so good
Here - I brought you nachos
LOVE the sweatshirt! 😅
Armored core 6 is basically this movie as a video
Pacific Rim, is a great action movie that is beautifully executed
"I'm surprised they never made movies like these before."
Well, there are a lot of anime titles of course, where this movie got the inspirations from, but there is also an American sci-fi movie called Robot Jox back in 1990. I'm convinced that Pacific Rim took inspiration from that too because they had a similar way to pilot the mechs :D
The thing with the sword is that kaiju blood is very toxic to humans which is why they use heated weapons to caterize the wound so the sword is a last ditch effort
When I saw this in theaters and they showed that Seattle was destroyed, everyone in the theater as laughing, and I shouted, "Hey, come on!" XD
THANK YOU FOR MY NOSTALGIA, MELLVERSE!
But whatever you do, THERE IS NO PR: UPRISING! IT WILL RUINED EVERYTHING!!!
There is a similar movie…it’s called Robot Jox, but it’s a person vs a person in the machines
Amazing reaction! If i may, I highly recomend society of the snow
he should TOTALLY react to Hoodwinked hehe
Guillermo Del Toro really went to work on this movie and he made it a massive hit.
Yeah, I can agree it's a B- movie, but it's an A++ rollercoaster ride.
And yeah, there were figures sold of both the Kaiju and the Jaegers, I've got a seven inch Cherno Alpha myself.
They dont use swords much cuz kaiju blood is poisonous
I’m feeling tired and kinda hungry how are u mell!!!! Also with siblings ig they more compatible because the bond between them probably lol
Love your reaction's, bro. Please watch battleship (2012) too❤️
Diggin that HP sweater! Where you find it?
great film 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I remember watching pacific rim back in 2013 when I was in middle school the iconic fight scene was Otachi vs gypsy this what actually started the Godzilla universe in 2014
Using the sword last is an old anime reference
Your sweat shirt though.... ❤
They waited to use the sword because it would've spilled the toxic kaiju blood all over the city.
"make a movie like this before"
bruh, this came out in 2016
2:00 There used to be a Pacific Rim game in the App Store but that was years ago.
I would LOVE to see you react to Pan's Labyrinth, Del Toro's best movie to date.
If you don't drink or something of that nature , you can be with someone who drinks - of course , someone not willing to stop for various reasonings is an addict I'm pretty sure (closely) by definition 🤷🏿♂️ . There's sacrifices and benefits to literally everything .

8:46 or maybe... it looks that way because Charlie is from Newcastle and Rinku is from Kanagawa, both places with heavy British and Japanese accents, and they are trying their best to emulate the dullest of accents in English there is. And yeah, some characters are over the op with exaggerated funny acting but thats just cause this is a love letter to old Mecha and Kaiju movies that did it before.
Gipsy Danger and Coyote Tango are my favorite 2 Jagers from this movie
Cherno Alpha (The big old MKI Jaeger that got double teamed had no escape pods, or any means of escape really because of the pilots doctrine,
They would rather go down with the ship, (Die fighting) than escape, escape was seen as cowardice by them.
