Really interested in hearing the thoughts of first time players that are coming to this game for the first time via Game Pass. What are you struggling with? Let me know and if there's enough interest I will cover what I can in the next video.
Hey, man I don't know if you still read comments but can you tell me what type of projectile weapon should be equipped by default? Which projectile is the most useful in most encounters? I feel like smoke bombs are the best but I kinda like the regular shurikens because they give me some additional mobility and combo potential. I haven't found much use for a bow yet, it seems to be pretty situational, at least on normal difficulty.
I made it up to Ch.10 hard mode before restarting. I'd built up a wealth of bad habits and was basically trading money for progress. 1. It was hard to tell how much FS's recovery was actually hindering me. Now I barely use it. 2. As much as people rag on Rachel, she taught me UTs then forced me to improve my counter game. 3. Why does Ryu swim, climb ledges, and open doors like a lil bitch? 4. Best combat system I've experienced but I couldn't truly appreciate it until watching your vids.
@koza6176 what? The combat is nothing like sekiro and the challenge is much greater than souls. Souls games are pretty easy. Especially when you look at the higher difficulties in ng. Also. Dark souls basically took everything they did from ng1 but their own slower combat and changed how detha and shrines work
I'm a first time player who bought the master collection a while ago and put it down after failing to beat the tutorial boss after a few tries. Saw this video on Twitter and after watching re-installed and managed to beat it first try. Really well done, I plan to follow along with the others as I try to get through the rest of the game, thank you for making these!
Seriously, if any new players are watching this, don't pick 'Hard', you will not have fun. It will just frustrate you. It's a good challenge for the seasoned players, which 1 playthrough is enough to count you in that camp, especially if you follow JayTB's advice.
Understand 😁 yeah right sounds dumb. Enemies in real life don't give you time like that so why should I play games like that. How you practice is how you fight. I do everything iny life hardcore, the first time. Playing hard is stupid in my second time, why would I replay a game when I mastered it in my first run.
as someone getting into this series for the first time, videos like this are gonna be in my bookmarks for a while. I'm on Hard Mode now after my first playthrough and want to be as good at NG as I am Devil May Cry. In Normal, it was bosses and particular enemies I struggled with, and the more advanced moves and instant charge techniques.
I did NOT understand this game when Black was originally dropped on Game Pass. Just kinda stumbled my way through to Chaptrer 3, playing it like Devil May Cry. A lot clicked when you mentioned when you started mentioning fighting game terminology. I'm excited to give this game another go.
Great introductionary, quite informative. I still remember watching your stuff and learning a lot from them, hope that other people will also find a lot of new informations here.
Beating this game on Hard for my first playthrough was a painful experience. But it was very worth it. Now I can't even imagine bosses not having minions in their fights.
Thank you for doing this! I've played the game casually for a long time, and have beaten it in MN, but my son is just getting through his first Normal run now. I think your content might help him to dig deeper and get more out of the game than he otherwise would. And it gives me an excuse to spend a little more time with him.
@JayTB123 thanks for taking the time to help out new players like myself who are just now experiencing this game series. I think I may have to play it a few times slowly adding in more advanced tactics that you threw into this absolute beginners guide until, I truly master everything that’s taught in this guide though before moving onto my first hard playthrough as I feel there’s a lot to be mastered just in normal difficulty before I even feel prepared whatsoever to do a hard difficulty playthrough but, that’s just me as someone who’s new to the franchise.
when I first played Ninja Gaiden back in 2004, I literally kept recentering the camera since its faster and keeping my thumb off from the right stick and learned how to pay attention to enemies that are not within sight...memorizing sound queue and attack patterns can help a lot when you first play ninja gaiden
Amazing video, thanks. I'm up to Chapter 12 and haven't been struggling too much outside of boss fights but it's really nice to learn the details of the systems
Oooh, this kind of video is a fantastic idea for the game coming to Game Pass. I'm not "brand new" to Ninja Gaiden, but I'm not... I'm not very good at it either, lol. I think I'll try to "reset" myself with the game and try to start over in learning it. Maybe that'll help me get better. Yes... I would _LOVE_ to see a Chapter 2, etc.
Omg thank you this video is perfect!!! I thought I missed some tutorials, had a hard time getting used to the combo system and the insanely aggressive enemies xD I just got the collection yesterday, and I admittedly picked hard mode first. i thought it’d be like Hard/Son of Sparda in DMC, i was not ready 😭 gonna switch back to a normal mode run just to get my feet wet ^^
As someone who has beaten this on master ninja, these are things I don't actively think about. Good on noticing what they are struggling with. The most important thing I learned while improving in this game is FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BLOCK!!!!
very good commentary, you have explained me in great detail what I was doing and why I was doing it just by muscle memory. Never been able to get a friend of mine past Alma, even playing alongside her because I sucked at describing what I was doing. good work! 👍
I’m struggling with this game quite a bit so I think this should help I like it so far I just end up getting caught up in all the technicalities of the gameplay on a first playthrough so thank you for this I’m looking forward to an absolute beginners walkthrough for 2 and 3 as well as I’m a newcomer to this series as well.
I just started playing on GamePass and even having played through Nioh 2 and a bunch of Souls games Ninja Gaiden is fairly unintuitive. Every other guide is some 10:01 length video saying 'Kill enemies and don't get hit please subscribe'. Thanks for breaking the whole thing down!
I’m a novice at ngb and decided to try sigma cuz of game pass. I never got the chance but thank you for getting me through ngb! Your tech really helped
Really informative video! I played through the DMC series, the PS2 God of Wars and Bayonetta before starting NG Black, and all four series have their own distinct ways you're "supposed" to approach combat, with this series being the hardest to figure out without any prior knowledge. I've slowly been able to work my way to chapter 3 by myself by learning the opponents' movesets but I was really struggling with the camera and movement before watching the beginning of this. I spent the majority of the time on the Chapter 2 boss angry at the camera lol. Sometimes it's the little things that count.
Perfect guide. Unluckly there are no CC and I'm not native English but with patience I can follow your guidance, thank you a lot, you are a monster wow
So i picked hard and i got stuck on Alma for a whole day, went fromgreater or lesser ninja to ninja dog, then it was pretty ok struggling to the end of the game till i met a dragon and alma again. Then i met alma again and i had to burn all my heals i just bought and i struggled for another day trynna finish the game, then i hop on easy and steam rolled the 1st part of the game, also that black and red ryu guy burned my heals as well at the teleport spot where you 1st get true dragon blade.
Made it to Alma on normal before having to switch to ninja dog unfortunately. But I just finished the game, after watching this I learned some new things I didn’t even know. Time to beat it on normal this time!
Completed the game on hard recently, didn't know enemies don't actually combo. Same with holding block after a roll. I'm not good at action games, I know. So, my general questions for the game, to be hopefully answered in the future videos, are: - How to deal with undead ninjas that spam flaming kunais? As far as I'm concerned Ruy is defenseless against that. As for Rachel all I could do is evade in their direction (it stuns them) + Y to chop their heads off during evasion (this move is op af), but I'm pretty sure there should be more ways to deal with them. - About the ogre ambush on chapter 15, is it even possible to kill 80 ogres without health potions or Rebirth talisman (or any ambush in general)? I used Unlabored flawlessness "->X, X, Y" 2 times per ogre (as it has least chance to break their mask), was camping in the right corner where the platform is so the ogres attack you 1-by-1, was using smoke bombs to de-aggro them, and still it took me 1 rebirth xD. Also would just like to thank you for your guides, the game can be very frustrating sometimes, but watching them calms me down each time.
@JayTB123 I just started this with your Ninja Gaiden Sigma walkthrough for dummies and it’s really helping me out for at least a first playthrough may use these strategies until I get used to all the enemy types thrown at me in normal for a few playthroughs as there’s a lot of different enemy types to get used to dealing with that I doubt I’ll really be able to absorb what every enemy does in just one playthrough so, I may use your guide to get used to the game on normal until I feel comfortable going for a hard playthrough, Also, if you could do a dummies guide like this for parts 2 and 3 in the master collection as well that would be super helpful for a newcomer to the entire series like myself.
Ah, Ninja Gaiden…. My ultimate nemesis. I was like 11 or 12 when I first played Gaiden on the original Xbox. Yet still to this day, I can’t seem to beat Gaiden 1 or 2. I have no problems with other action games like Devil May Cry, Nier, God of War, Yakuza, Nioh, the more recent actiony Tales games, Final Fantasy XVI or VII Remake, Shinobi, Strider, Sekirio, and a shit ton others. But there’s just something different about Ninja Gaiden. It just has a way of kicking my teeth down my throat. It’s probably one of the most punishing action series out there.
I played sigma 1 after getter the collection, im not really struggling as i like these kinda games but i went ahead and seen what 2 was like and its just 1 but so much more fun and flashy, and its hard to go back to 1 aftwr getting used to OTs and UTs.
I'm realizing that my experience with DMC, Bayonetta, and Soulsborne has really bitten me in the butt here. I was worried about getting guard-broken and typically feel most comfortable dodging in 3rd person action games, so for about 8 chapters, I rarely blocked and chose to mostly dodge everything. This resulted in sheer chaos as enemies would rapidly react to my movement and frequently overwhelm my untrained eyes (and camera control). Guess it's time to learn how to block again, at least until I can learn the patterns and tells.
That makes a lot of sense, carry over from games you're used to is hard to unlearn sometimes. I think most are surprised at just how much can be blocked in this game and even if it guard breaks it's not that bad as long as you know what to do in order to recover.
@@JayTB123 Yeah, your video made me realize that the game didn't need to be at the frantic pace I was making it by rolling like a madman. I mean, it was still intense, but at least I felt more in control. Once I got the basics of defense down (and spent a good hour or so practicing wind running shenanigans and Essence/Ultimate attacks at the cargo hold in Ch. 3 with infinite respawns), everything else started to click and the game became much, much more satisfying. Gonna check out your other vids and see what else I missed.
this video is not for me. ive been playing since 2004. but i still will watch this series as anythning ninja gaiden related i fully support. great job JTB
Lol the thumbnail😂 im a new player to the series. I started playing razors edge a few months ago on wii u. I tried it on hard and now im on the final chapter. This series is balls hard. Especially as someone who's been playing zelda and mario😂
Thanks so much for this! I started NGS and stalled partway through because I wasn't clicking with it, I find that a lot of assumptions and habits one might bring in from some other action games (most notably DMC) don't apply at all and it's hard to kick old habits haha. On that note, I have a question: the hitstun situation. For the boss here you do single hits then move away and yeah this is meant to be the foolproof method, but more broadly I've felt that many enemies seem to have inconsistent hitstun? As in, sometimes they'll interrupt a combo and sometimes they won't -- whether they gain superarmor partway through or the combo was never true and they simply didn't always punish, I can't tell. Is there a consistent approach, or is the NG philosophy just "sometimes you'll get hit and that's life"?
Hey Jaytb another great video! I think the only version of ng 1 to have some sort of tutorial was ng04. after the Murai fight in chapter 1 you speak to him and he explains essence absorption with 1 and then 2 yellow orbs followed by a message about LT to block and directionals to roll. That was it haha.
That's right it did, I think they really should have kept that and on the first playthrough just have it be something you can't skip. It would introduce brand new players to it right off the bat.
Thank you for this series!! And for taking the time to explain stuff the game never did. Yeeeears ago I’d gotten Ninja Gaiden Black on XBox when it first came out. Being a total noob to fighting games, it broke my spirit and sat unplayed. Now that I’m competent in games like Nioh and Sekiro, I’m ready to give NG a shot again with some fresh perspective. And thanks to your efforts here, I feel I stand a solid chance to love this game.
Do you have any tips for the boss fight In mission mode of ninja garden black where you have to fight alma and nichee at the same time and along the other bosses in that section of giants of the underworld
Hey Jay! First off, your videos are great and you're sick man. I need to finish this playlist asap. I wanted to ask, is there any difference gameplaywise between Sigma and Black? I've just started Black and I'm struggling understanding the meta. I come from a "soulsborne" + nioh + fighting games background, so I try to stay very grounded when I fight, looking for opportunities to counter hit between enemy strings but it seems it doesn't pay off that much as I want to lol. I got to the second chapter with no trouble whatsoever, but as soon as I started fighting the samurai looking guys that you have to guard break it became way harder. Should I switch to Lunar for those guys or is it a good idea to master the sword combat first? And, is there an OTG move that's not X - Y ? I don't know if ppl are just too fast but I think I've seen people pulling otgs without doing X first.
Thanks :) The OTG move you're likely seeing is >Y, it's the Y part of the XY string but by itself, it's the fastest option to relaunch an enemy from the floor. The lunar isn't great against the samurais as it doesn't guard break very well and the strings have gaps in them. The Sword is better for that, XYY, X hold Y and XY into >Y are all great at breaking guard. Wind run will also disable guard from enemies and get you a free >Y follow up.
Hello, may I ask if you can choose "Video Language" on the page to choose English, so that TH-cam will provide automatic translation, so that people in non-English regions can watch CC and automatic translation. Thank you
Thank you for this video. Years ago I actually finished the game on normal. And I'm returning to it since I recall the fun it was. Your video was perfect to refresh my memory, and to teach me things I never knew. I am ashamed to admit I was really a button smasher, and an essence farmer. I'd spend days doing loops just to earn enough to buy things. I do hope you'll continue this series. Thanks, again, for your very clear and concise breakdown of the moves. One question, how did you get the black costume so early in the game? I'm not really a fan of the blue "pajamas" look.
but the worst part of it all is i didnt know that you have to save in the new chapter i thought it would have a checkpoint had to redo alma pt 2 again i hopped off when that happened.
The playlist says complete beginners while the videos say absolute beginners. Not sure if you're worried about consistency but just putting that out there.
Holy cow, blast from the past here. I used to play NG2 pretty hardcore and had one of the higher legit scores for a MN full clear at 43m points. No abusing the respawning ghost fish under that water mill either. The PC collection for the series just is not the same as the old original Xbox version of NGB and NG2. I even used to post on the old forums years ago. Is there any way to replay the original NG2 on PC? I know NG:B was your bread & butter but I always preferred the faster NG2.
NG2 is playable on emulator now but requires some pretty powerful hardware. I'd recommend checking out Guilty Gamings channel and Discord for more info on setting it up.
Funny dont pick hard u will get slaughtered, So true I mean i am good on Master Ninja and still really challenging but remember when got the game normal was so hard too xD
man, for a long time i always looked at these game like the best games ever made that didnt come out on PC and i always hated the devs or publishers for that. Especially since one of my all time favorite NES games was Ninja Gaiden 2. When it finally released on Steam i bought it and i thought i was going to have the time of my life only to be utterly disappointed by the games controls and mechanics. That first boss fight is, like you said, where i gave up. I recently started to play again, and i pretty much played as you just showed in this video, and i gotta say its not fun. Blocking all the time and doing the same moves over and over again not being able to utilize all the move sets because you constantly get interrupted, and that boss fight, roll away hit once or twice, rinse and repeat...so disappointing. Personally i was expecting a DMC like gameplay, but i see now that i have to change my expectations. I will try to play further. We shall see how far i get i guess.
I'm new and picked hard just because i wanted the challenge . I beat this guy on hard blind as a first ever play through just now . I then looked up this guy's channel because another gamer mentioned him. The goal is to learn more about animation canceling and people said it started with ninja gaiden so here i am. Honestly if master ninja was an option i would have picked it first just because its fun to learn difficult games. People say ninja gaiden is the hardest game ever made .... hear stuff like that all the time but I love a hard challenge .
If your a martial artist then pick hard. Your an embarrassment to your art if you think blocking forever is the way. I picked hard the first time. Deal with it.

What are you struggling with? Let me know and if there's enough interest I will cover what I can in the next video.

Let's say I wish I watched this when I started playing the game, lol. I struggled a lot on normal.
this video is not for me. ive been playing since 2004. but i still will watch this series as anythning ninja gaiden related i fully support. great job JTB
Wish I have this guide eighteen years prior😂. Great work👍.
"stop jumping, you arent invulnerable, you cant guard midair, youre not dante"
Dmc fan= youre losing me
keep up the good work Jay! :)
I appreciate these videos very much 🤙
he actually did it with the name haha, well, hopefully this can be useful to new players, its also ajtb video so im sure they will
Do you have any tips for the boss fight In mission mode of ninja garden black where you have to fight alma and nichee at the same time and along the other bosses in that section of giants of the underworld
Thanks :)
The OTG move you're likely seeing is >Y, it's the Y part of the XY string but by itself, it's the fastest option to relaunch an enemy from the floor.
The lunar isn't great against the samurais as it doesn't guard break very well and the strings have gaps in them. The Sword is better for that, XYY, X hold Y and XY into >Y are all great at breaking guard.
Wind run will also disable guard from enemies and get you a free >Y follow up.
@@JayTB123 Thanks for the help. I'll practice that!
Hello, may I ask if you can choose "Video Language" on the page to choose English, so that TH-cam will provide automatic translation, so that people in non-English regions can watch CC and automatic translation. Thank you
I had no idea that's how that worked :) I will make a note of that for the future.
@@JayTB123 thank you
X,y shurikens flying swallou
I beat this on normal about a decade ago so i tried hard mode as i was already familiar and boy howdy did this wreck my arsehole
is there anyway to make the camera not inverted?
Ya thanks for these. Trying ng out after getring into nioh. Its weird and a bit janky camera is hard to control. So these lessons are nice thanks
Is there any way to get the shinobi shozoku costume back on the first 2 levels?
I'm playing on normal. Flying swallow makes you invincible pretty much
That will stop very quickly once you get above normal.
can you do a in depth combo tutorial
great guide jay!
Thanks for the tips. I completed chapter 1 and I died ALOT! emphasis on alot 🤣
4th white ninja hit can be interrupted
Hey I wanted to know does this game have the interception move. It looks similar to my ninja gaiden on my OG Xbox
It doesn't unfortunately.
The playlist says complete beginners while the videos say absolute beginners. Not sure if you're worried about consistency but just putting that out there.
I will change that lol
Do you think the original game for the Xbox is a lot better than the MC?
I love ur videos
Funny dont pick hard u will get slaughtered, So true I mean i am good on Master Ninja and still really challenging but remember when got the game normal was so hard too xD
heyho. just wanted pay some respect here 😅. I'm just a casual Ninja Gaiden fan. Hard is my normal, but very hard is still kinda hard for me ☺
man, for a long time i always looked at these game like the best games ever made that didnt come out on PC and i always hated the devs or publishers for that.
Such a shame people’s exposure to the games is the Sigma editions.
thanks!
❤
I got this game from gamepass and since I come from playing Souls, I didn't think blocking was more useful than rolling
