I never thought about this before but it would have been cool af if they had integrated intercept into NGB by making it exclusive to the True Dragon Sword. Like the Dragon's Eye gives the blade its glowing aura of mystical justguard powers, able to repel any strike. Maybe tighten up the activation window to like 5-8 frames or so. It would feel way more significant than just like 2 extra combos and a damage buff. A true gamechanger that functions as an incredible lategame upgrade that the player feels like they've earned. Like the end of a Metroid game where you're just an unstoppable death ball flying around with the screw attack.
I don't know why they couldn't just give it as a accomplishment reward for say, beating the hardest difficulty FIRST. A new game plus(usually new enemies/tactics), same thing - at the END. You've earned it beating both modes beforehand and can thus, "style on enemies/bosses" for fun/shits & giggles when you are in the mood.
I still don’t get why the Black version or Sigma version didn’t keep that unique future ninja suit as an unlockable. I’ve played nearly all versions of ninja gaiden except for the original version of Xbox that didn’t have DLC included like NG Black.
Indeed, I still think that the Intercept Tech, (And the armlet of tranquility), should have remained as rewards for finishing Black Edition on Master Ninja.
I'm so glad I held on to my copies of NG, NGB, and NG2 after hearing KT lost the code for them. Hopefully my NG still got a save file with that intercept move.

I've always wondered about the Intercept, as I had the original and Black, but no internet at the time. Cheers for covering this. And damn, the game still looks great in motion
Wow, TN missed the opportunity to pull a Resident Evil 4 Remake and make Intercept a reward for completing the Hardest difficulty (leave it as broken as it was on release). I feel rewarded and enjoy every time I play Resident Evil 4 Remake casually with the RPD Uniform and Infinite Ammo unlocks. TN should update the Master Collection to do the same.
Posting here after the announcement of the Sigma collection for PC. I wish the collection actually included every version of the games, including this Hurricane Pack expansion, as I've always wanted to try out this Intercept system myself for years. Unfortunately, it doesn't, and all we're left with is Sigma 1, Sigma 2 and Razor's Edge.
If they ever rerelease Ninja Gaiden Black it would be neat if the intercept was an unlikable you could only get by beating master ninja as a sort of fun, post-game bonus.
I remember learning about this move when I downloaded the Master ninja tournament dlc from OG xbl marketplace. If that move was included during the actual tournament I could have easily beaten it. Holy crap it was so overpowered. Instant UTs at the drop of a hat.
Having been doing some ng black and sigma on master ninja recently, i think they shouldn't have removed this. They wanted to make the game harder but this, just like dante royal guard or sekiro parries, is about using skill to get a reward. It made sense to have it. Even if higher difficulties might be a bit easier with it.
Great video. I remember intercept and may still have it on my original Xbox. I still use my OG Xbox occasionally to play NGB mission mode. That console is the only way to add to my 40 million score so I kept it to fuck around with. I put so much time into that game and mode its not worth selling for a few bucks. I never really used that tech but if it was available in black it may have been very useful for that Alma 2 fight on master ninja when I did it without healing. I can see how that would have trivialised the difficulty overall. I was extremely stubborn and usually stuck to a few techniques. I saw alot of top players using inazuna drop and never really practiced or learned it with the DS. Only with the lunar on a few missions. Flying shallow, wall jump attacks and onlanding UT's were the majority of what I used. With scoring I found the game became unbalanced since most of the other moves became near useless and it involved waiting for repeating patterns and spamming UTs. It took alot of patience though. After completing no healing/ninpo on nearly all the missions on MN and doing some farming to hit 40 million I was done, ha ha.
I am pretty certain I still have both hurricane packs on my original Xbox. I'd have to dig it out and hook it up to check the save files... I don't think I have the Ninja Gaiden game anymore, though I might. It's been so long since I even saw what I have on regular Xbox, but even if I don't I'm sure I can get it used cheap. I've recently gotten back into Ninja Gaiden and was playing the master collection and then started playing the original NG2 on series X since that runs flawlessly now on that.... And I just saw NGB could still be bought digitally on Xbox so I got that and been running through that... But I'm definitely going to try digging it out and see if I can check the save files... If it's there then I'll look to getting the game again if I don't have it... I know I got all the DLC when it came out... I remember doing the tournament modes though I know I probably didn't even get in the top 100 lol but I'm interested in checking it out for that one move as I know even more about the game and how it plays than I did back then... Back then, me and my friend would think a grounded Ninja was a dead Ninja. So we were always jumping and doing the flying swallow and or trying to launch and combo grab in air... Modern gaming has wore me out and just not fun anymore that I've been going back to 360 and ps3 games and ones before...
Recently downloaded Ninja Gaiden Black on Xbox One. I had played Sigma many years ago, but my PS3 broke and Sony is retarded and doesn't make their consoles backwards compatible, so I figured I'd play Black. I didn't even know Black wasn't even the original, lol. Crazy.
Getting Sekiro flashbacks from all the block spamming in this video lol (or as me and some others like to say, tink tink tink tink tink). On a serious note, I can see why this never came back as it does seem pretty broken in a game like this. A small part of me does wish it had came back though if only because of the fact that it also works on grabs and I think if the requirements for activating it were more strict or the normal block was nerfed a little bit to compensate it could've worked as a natural part of Ryu's moveset.
I’m kinda sad. I was a kid when I first played the NG Black version, but never took advantage of this technique because I never knew how to use it properly. Never understood how privileged I was to have had it. I was hoping to use it on my Series X|S. I hope they bring this back. 😢
