    I can't tell you how much i appreciate the way you approach this tutorial.
    One of the aspects many new players note is how relentless and aggressive NG's enemies can be.
    Take the basic Ninja for instance. Instead of you highlighting their strengths, the first thing you did was "Look, 99% of what they do is irrelevant just by holding block".
    No fancy combos, no flashy footsies, no moveset details.
    Starting from what can be blocked and then tackling the exceptions is a fantastic way to ease people into it.

    As a new player, I found that the cargo hold with the first fiend challenge was INVALUABLE for learning and implementing the mechanics you've been teaching, because after you complete the fiend challenge, the room will henceforth spawn a set number of enemies every time you reenter. As far as I can tell, the game doesn't have a training mode, and the challenge missions (even the supposed "tutorial" ones) are a bit too intense for new players to take their time and let mechanics sink it. So that cargo hold allowed me to polish up up counters, Izuna Drops, learn on-landing timings, and so on. And it was a ton of fun just seeing all of it come together while earning a bunch of essence.

    As a completely new player, the main thing I learned out of the first videos was that I can block way more than I expected, and that ETs, UTs and Ninpo EXIST.

    This is a great series. I consider myself somewhat of an NG vet, but I've still learned some stuff from these vids. Good stuff.

    I’ve always been able to beat NG and other action games but I’ve never been good at memorizing or even utilizing multiple combos. I typically have my go tos but watching your tutorials really makes me want to start experimenting with and getting use to strategically using combos. I also was always stingy with items and only used them for bosses in my play throughs. Probably will still do that but everything else has been super informative and useful in these tutorials. Thank you.

    To emphasis how good blocking JTB has mentioned, you can hold the block button and Ryu will automatically block in all directions with some exceptions like guard breaks/crush and grabs of course. Ryu can block the gun fire if for whatever reason you cant reach the commandos and use your bow when they reload.

    Loving these videos so far I've been playing them since coming to gamepass myself, i'm doing a second playthrough on hard now but after watching this i'm learning so many cool techniques that i've been practicing like wind run, i didn't even know that existed lol.
    Thanks for the great guide and i'm looking forward to Rachel's chapters since i just kinda fumbled through them and gamov's currently giving me a bit more trouble now on hard.

    I _still_ need to get around to practicing Dynamo so I can beat him "acceptably," lol.
    I've beaten him before, but there's something about Ninja Gaiden where I'll like replay levels over and over until I can beat them and their bosses without having to use items. I really need to get over whatever it is that's keeping from using them, but I need to learn to love smoke bombs more, I guess.
    Thanks again for these videos! They're great and I hope they allow more people to learn to enjoy Ninja Gaiden more!

      Not using items is just a game thing. There used to be so many games back in the day with limited items and you would always get to some point where you really wish you had an item but didnt have any. So of course you train yourself not to use them, make the game harder for yourself and then end up with excess items at the end.

    For the idea that the twin swords aren't good in Sigma, I think it comes purely from people who used them in 2 or Razor's Edge first and didn't put much time in with them in Sigma. They are good in all three games but they are so much faster in the sequels that I've known people to dismiss the Sigma version as simply a half baked prototype of what 2 would bring, ignoring that combat is overall much faster in 2.
    They certainly feel more different at a glance from their later incarnations than the other returning weapons, which could give an immediate feeling of disappointment if you are already used to the carnage they can dish out in the sequels.

    Dinamo...I'm a beginner and I've noticed that sometimes he begins to shoot at you and at that point is not easy to get closer to him again (I restarted since the save-point is just before the fight). What I did after some attempts is using Dragon Sword triple-square attack, L1 to block his punch, roll to evade the grab and again triple attack. Sometimes he decides to change the pattern (start with grab or shoot you even if close)...I was able to defeat him without items after all

    I'm especially looking forward to you covering the nunchakus in chapter 4. I'm still trying to convince myself that they're not a joke weapon.

    • @jackdaws.7358
      @jackdaws.7358 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They surely are not. But for beginners, it is better to learn the mechanisms of the flails first.

    • @jackdaws.7358
      @jackdaws.7358 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found wooden sword, not upgraded, a beautiful weapon. But that just could not feel the same if I just stuck on level one wooden sword that barely did harm to enemies.

    • @JayTB123
      @JayTB123  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The chucks aren't great tbh, I will focus on them when the Flails become available but in general they're not really a great new player weapon. In order to use them effectively you have to know quite a lot about the stun mechanics and enemy vulnerability which takes a bit of time to get down.

    Dual swords were always my favorite.

  • @DragonFalconFGO
    @DragonFalconFGO 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    On the Dual Swords: Generally it is just janky and unfinished in general. It's ET doesn't have full i-frames as far as I remember, it also has a chance to somehow whiff it's UT even when you are up close right into the enemy's face. There is also the fact that despite doing more damage than the regular Dragon Sword, the long recovery frames are generally not worth the tradeoff. As far as I know, I hardly ever remember seeing people ever use the Dual Swords' basic strings in high level play, it's only ever used for it's 360Y, which damage is pretty broken.

    • @JayTB123
      @JayTB123  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This will be good to talk about in the next couple of chapters. If what you've put is the general consensus then it seems there's both some mis-information out there and a lack of understanding on how they function.

    • @DragonFalconFGO
      @DragonFalconFGO 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JayTB123 Definitely looking forward to it. I would definitely like to learn more about the Dual Swords other than just 360Y.

  • @reiba9394

    i know it is pretty late, but i think i know why people hate the dual swords, cause i used to hate them, the forward x string (as you remarked on the sword in chapter 1 it is the most used by newbies) on the duals at level 1 has a massive delay after the attack and its very punisheable after block, i was molding everytime i used to input that string, it was my first time playing dont laugh at me xP.
    Pd if i used in on or at wrongly point it out i think i may have massacred some grammar books

    • @JayTB123
      @JayTB123  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very good point actually, newer players probably got that string a lot just by mashing and it's not the best string to just throw out especially in group combat.

    You use the terms "forward Y" and "360Y" a lot, but I don't think you've ever once clarified that you have to perform that motion on the left stick while also pressing the Y button. Might be a bit confusing for someone completely new, or maybe I'm just underestimating people...

    • @JayTB123
      @JayTB123  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Do you mean for Dynamo or the commandos?
      Dynamos grab is very fast and is hard to react to every time, you just have to train your eye to watch for it. He will often go for it after a swing or point blank shot so when you see those moves be on the lookout for his left arm moving backwards.
      Commandos will normally go for grabs when they run up to you or when you land near them. Again there's is very fast so you need to remember the likely situations where they will go for it. After whiffs and landing from combos are the most common.

      @@JayTB123 Dynamo, basically when I roll through an attack and do the rotate attack with the dual swords i am getting grabbed right after and can't avoid it because I'm in the animation of the rotate recovery. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong

      @@Viralvicky0666 I think violent gale with the dragon sword is a way more noob friendly way to beat Dynamo than the dual swords. Wait for him to start charging the gun, run towards him, X, X, or square, square, depending on your controller. Roll away from his melee. Wait for him to start charging again, repeat.

  • @jateenkasan6351
    @jateenkasan6351 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Jaytb out of curiosity what controller are you using for master collection? Speaking personally here but on default dual-sense/ xbox one/series controllers I find the tension of the analog sticks too loose and are more suited for shooters.
    I struggled to hit consistent forward y’s, windmill slashes and my wall running was abysmal. Switched to a 360 controller and man it made a noticeable difference. One of the main reasons I prefer the pc version of MC to console.

    • @JayTB123
      @JayTB123  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using the power A controller for a long time now for X-Box One and PC. Fantastic controller and about 1/3 of the price of the official X-Box One / Series controllers.
      360 controllers are definitely the best they're just becoming harder to find these days, I still have a couple of them but use the power A one as it's more readily available.
