    Really interested in hearing the thoughts of first time players that are coming to this game for the first time via Game Pass.
    I'm likley at least a couple of chapters ahead but will check back for comments for things to address in future videos.

      Personally I think these guides are absolutely fantastic. I've spent the last 12 years playing what I considered fairly difficult games, and I'd hears about how great, and difficult Gaiden was. I've honestly been having a wonderful time figuring out movement, and combat tech, but your guides help put those pieces in the right places, and I'd made the cardinal mistake of thinking I was too good, and starting on hard. I made it to the first boss, but i was slamming my head into a wall the entire time, and finally listening to someone more experienced than I with the game, and switching to normal has been night and day on being able to apply the techniques I've been learning. Keep up the great work, can't tell you how much I appreciate these guides. I was a little too young at launch, so getting to enjoy these games now thanks to people like you, and gamepass, is awesome!

      I'd say it'd be really helpful to go into detail on when and when-not to use 'Flying Swallow'. I know when I first played I thought that move was the saving grace, but would get frustrated at it just not coming out, and why it just doesn't always connect (particularly with Alma).

    "Use your items"
    I blame DMC for that, where using Items burns considerable holes into your pockets, both in terms of item prices, but also stage end point deductions.

    • @JayTB123
      @JayTB123  2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      That's a really good point, anyone coming from DMC would likely have that assumption that items are going to be real expensive and somehow impact your rank.

    • @MaverickHunterXZA
      @MaverickHunterXZA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@JayTB123 It certainly was for me the first time around. DMC experience, combined with NG's reputation just made me assume that items would be a too-good-to-use luxury when in fact, they are neither.

    • @MAYOFORCE
      @MAYOFORCE 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Not only that, but speed requirements for ranks in that series could instinctively pressure people to play less patiently and get themselves hit, and while jumping is extremely effective in avoiding damage in DMC, it's basically a death sentence in NG

    • @zeroattentiongaming820
      @zeroattentiongaming820 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@MAYOFORCE I'd go so far as to say being in the air in general is safer in DMC. Beyond the jumping I-frames, most enemies can't hit you well in the air, the few that can are very telegraphed, Enemy Step allowing you to stay airborne forever and letting you jump cancel out of an air combo instantly gives you a ton of evasive potential, as does your double and triple jumps and air dashes depending on the character. Plus Dante, Vergil, Nero and V all have means of activating some form of I-frame state while in the air (Dante's Royal Guard, Vergil's Doppelganger activation, Nero and V's DT activations and Nero's Break Away) all of which makes a skilled player effectively untouchable in the air. DMC teaches you the air is where you are king and where you want to be.
      By comparison Ryu is a sitting duck while he's airborne despite having his own crazy air combos, a stark difference from what the Capcom and Platinum style of character action does, which is what most people are introduced to the genre with. You see Ryu Izuna Drop someone after putting some time into DMC, it could be easy to think NG is a lot more friendly to aerial play than it actually is

    So one of the weirder habits I developed from character action games is the tendency to turn the camera away to _minimize_ the number of enemies on-screen, as their AI is usually programmed to be less/not aggressive when they're not visible. That's somewhat the case here (mostly for fiends who rely on melee), but good lord projectile users have no chill. Turning the camera away from a group of Black Spider ninjas will inevitably result in a thousand incendiary kunai flying your way. Thankfully, there are tons of great audio cues for off-screen foes, and I've noticeably played worse when I had to keep the volume down.

    I made it to Chapter 4 before I had no more health vials and an encounter kept killing me. This game is brutal compared to other character action games, but it's never felt unfair. Thank you so much for posting these for new players. I didn't know you could look at your moves by clicking on the sword in the menu, so that alone was worth the sub.

    In Normal, it was bosses and particular enemies like Dinofiends and Knightmares I struggled with, and the more advanced moves and instant charge techniques. I also SUCK at counters.

    something JTB has mentioned in the past you can turn down the music for the game and you can listen out for the distinctive sound cues the enemies make such as the mages when they cast fireball.

    Been playing these games since 04 and decent enough at Sigma to handle the higher difficulties, or no upgrade run normal and I'm still finding this to be incredibly helpful. So many little things I could optimize that add up to a huge improvement in my overall survivability.
    In all my years playing character action games in general, I've never seen a guide go to the level of depth you're doing with each enemy type. Though I suppose DMC and Platinum's style of game don't really warrant that kind of attention to the 90% of enemies that are just combo fodder to a skilled player. Damn near every enemy in NG is a potential massive threat.
    Was quite surprised when you mentioned a lot of newcomers misunderstand Flying Swallow, leading it to get somewhat of a bad reputation. In the last 20 years, the only negative I've seen brought up about the move is that it's so over powered for so long, by the time the games start countering it a lot of people are so used to spamming it, they have a very hard time fighting without relying on it. Which is quite the opposite problem from what you mentioned, though I suppose a lot of that was also in regards to 2 and 3 where the move is far easier to use and can even be done in succesion iirc

    jay do you know if ninja dog changes damage values at all? from what i could tell it mostly adds in extra safety nets. i would say new players shouldn't feel ashamed of learning the game on ninja dog since it's such a well-done easy mode. they SHOULD avoid hero mode though, since it just plays the game for you.

    • @JayTB123
      @JayTB123  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it does, ND enemies have less health than Normal and deal a lot less damage. I would say Hero mode is a last resort but will cover that in chapter 3.

      I know its an old comment but i'll reply here anyway. I beat the mages first. They stopped spawnning after getting killed for a certain number of times something like 20 or so times. After that the fire horse boss is easy, just block his attacks and hit him with jump heavy attacks. His Hp goes down pretty first

    Is it not the case that killing doku in chapter 2 will automatically bump the difficulty up one level for the rest of the run?
    Because this is something I've heard from several sources and while I've never done it myself it's worth noting to players who ate new to the franchise if it is true.
