    All the syncopation Kirstin and Scott do is so perfectly well timed.
    Avi kills me regularly. His low notes and effects are amazing. And his operatic sound is impressive.
    Mitch, well there are no words for this performance by Mitch. He was on top of his game...and this was done higher than their studio cover. So fabulous.
    Kevin can also be heard, although unfortunately not seen, in this clip. He was keeping the beat so well. He is so strong here.

    You are the only reactor I've ever heard mention what Scott and Kirsten were doing. I get it. It's hard not to be impressed with Avi and Mitch in this song and Kevin killing it, but those two are holding some forts down in this song. The arrangement is so complex. So much going on at once. Watch their hands when the camera pans back amd you can really appreciate what those two are doing.

    This is probably my favourite video of PTX...to Mitch's facial expressions (did you catch his grin at the end? Yum!), to how you can tell he was totally feeling it that night, to his high notes, to Avi's crazy low notes, to everyone else just being perfect... I'll never get sick of watching it. Loved your reaction!!! 😁

    I'm so glad you took time to honor what Scott and Kirsten were doing in the background because that often gets overlooked. They have to be ON POINT and there's even one part where you might mistake one of the high notes for Mitch, but it's actually Scott in the background. They are ALL SO TALENTED! Props to Kevin who can't be seen too... that is some difficult beat boxing! Mitch and Avi aren't human. Great reaction!

  • @larrywt656

    Here's the story I've heard: The song previous to this one was a Kevin cello solo. The other members were backstage during the solo, and Mitch was suffering from jet lag and downed two Red Bulls. The group returned to the stage to perform the choral intro while Kevin was backstage putting the cello away. Avi then shredded the Star Vista's sound system with that low note while Kevin returned to the stage (not seen on camera)...followed immediately by Mitch's Red Bulls kicking in. He proceeded to go completely insane on stage while Avi continued to joyously shred the sound system in the background. And thus, what many Pentaholics consider to be the best live performance of their career...and all apparently only captured on this fan video!

    Always remember that Kirstin, Mitch and Scott have been friends singing together since high school. Avi and Kevin joined a bit later, but they were all in their late teens or very early twenties. The right people, joining at just the right time. Mozart said the the human voice was the best possible musical instrument, and I think he had exactly these folks in mind. Who knows what could have been heard in all the centuries before we started RECORDING music!? Other than microphones and such, nothing these incredible five have done hasn't been possible since the stone ages. Think about that one....

    Fantastic reaction! This is one of their best live performances ever, and every one of them was spot on. Avi and Mitch are great, but Kevin - all the rattles and whooshes and pounding beat all at once, he truly is an alien. Whenever I see this, I get sucked in by the lovely choral piece at the beginning, almost forgetting the maelstrom that is coming. Looking forward to the next reaction!

    Avi can sing overtones - 2 notes at the same time. That's what he's doing when he sounds like a "synthesizer". He demonstrates it in a video. Some people have taught themselves, but very few. It's most common in people with Middle Eastern heritage. Just FYI.

    PTX also did a video cover of Aha really, really early in their career (2013 I think). It's a really cute zombie themed video. Yes, Avi gives us a taste of his operatic basso profound training, and he was also the one who chose to start the piece with Christus Factus Est, a song the four of them (less Kevin) had performed in choirs in high school and college. The times they didn't start with that, it just wasn't the same, and when they do "Aha!" now with Matt, it's quite different (I'm pretty sure they've done it with him since Avi left).

    • @gailseatonhumbert9199
      @gailseatonhumbert9199 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes well Matt is a very nice pop song bass but he is not in Avi's class. That is just reality. No disrespect to Matt he doesn't need to be either for Pentatonix.

    • @charlottevan_8
      @charlottevan_8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gailseatonhumbert9199 I agree. Avi's classical training and natural resonance really made a difference. The pop leanings of PTX certainly hindered his capabilities, but now he's able to spread his creative and performance wings, and we're all the richer for it.

    • @charlottevan_8
      @charlottevan_8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen a video of PTX performing "Aha!" since Avi's departure, and they knew they couldn't continue doing the "Christus" opening. It's simply too iconic with his voice. For some reason, they chose to open it with "Greensleeves", which makes no sense to me and segues into "Aha!" clumsily.

    Avi blew the first speaker with that low note at the beginning. Then the caffeine from the two Red Bulls Mitch had drunk cuts in and Mitch goes hyperactive in his upper register. So everyone is concentrating on Mitch, but Avi is still going strong in true basso profundo style, merrily blowing out more and more speakers. You can hear them go, and the audio quality of the recording gets progressivel worse because of it. Listening to those speakers go is my favorite part of this whole video.

But I have a recommendation, if you like showmanship AND incredible, otherworldly vocals you I have to introduce you to Adam Lambert!!! He has his own music, which is amazing, but he's also the current and final frontman for the band Queen. If you want to get a masterclass lesson on vocal control, watch his recent performance on the James Corden show. th-cam.com/video/c3n52WTHUUo/w-d-xo.html
