The back story is that the four started singing while Kevin put his cello away. He then joined them on stage - but was not caught on video. Mitch had been rather tired and had consumed a couple of Red Bull previously and was a little over caffeinated! We think Avi had blown the bass bins which were rattling!
They have 8 Christmas albums out now. You guys REALLY need to react to Kiss From A Rose, (Seal cover) that they did live in the VEVO room. It's insane!!
Kevin was putting away his cello during the first part of this song (when Avi was killing the speakers), everyone shifted on stage for Kevin came out. Mitch had at least 1 too many Red Bulls 😂, but this is an iconic performance, requested by any Pentaholic, and clearly the person recording loved Mitch ❤.
The opener, "Christus Factus Est" was brought to the group by Avi, who was an opera and classical voice major in college (actually offered a position as a basso profundo by the Los Angeles Opera when he was instead recruited into Pentatonix for their participation in the competition show The Sing Off, which they won). His chamber choir in college had performed the song, and he felt it would make a dramatic intro into "Aha!". PTX stopped using it when he left.
@@elizabethfelet4743 Sorry. My mistake. I don't follow PTX lately, so the last time I saw a video of them doing "Aha!" they used "Greensleeves" as an opener.
they just released 'kiss from a rose' by seal and it is recorded live. their version is better and its quite a performance. kevin has his electric cello.
Welcome to Mitch with red bulls in his system! They kicked in around this time. You can see Kirstie and Scott scoot to the side to give him more room. I laugh throughout this video because of the busted speakers, Scott and Kirstie watching Mitch, Mitch's red bulls kicking in, and the classic "where's Kevin?!". Lol.
Kevin was putting away his cello when the 1st part with Avi, but he was back when Mitch started singing. You can see that Mitch and Scott moved over. The fan focused on Mitch so you don't see Kevin, but you can hear his beatboxing.
x I am really glad that was film focused on one singer (instead of moving back and forth like many amateurs do). o Often casual filmers make the entire video shaky! x Just incredible how great it sounds without instruments!
The original song is by Imogen Heap if you want to look up the lyrics, & they did do an official video of their cover before that, which is great for playing at Halloween time, because PTX added a fun horror element to the story in the lyrics. Mainly the song is about catching "holier than thou" hypocrites that in public act like they're so concerned about the environment & other social issues, but in private they're living it up & not really making any personal sacrifices & driving the worst possible vehicles for the environment & so on, hence the line "caught you red handed in the biscuit tin". Their live performances though basically made it an operatic experience, where it's all about the play between Mitch, the counter tenor, & Avi, with his deep deep bass. The other 3 supported it excellently, but this song was all about letting those 2 shine. That's how they operate in their group, taking turns with who is "lead" depending on their vision of the song.
Avi almost certainly did damage the low-end speakers with that powerful low note at the beginning... the bass was "fuzzy" through the rest of the song. And this is the classic "Mitch slap"... iconic among Pentaholics. One thing that often seems to get lost in Mitch's crazy high notes at the end is the beautiful little run he does right before that.
Most Pentaholics we'll ask you to do The Prayer before we send you, in a different direction. After The Prayer, spend 17 minutes of your life viewing and reacting to Recording of Evergreen. This viewing will much better let you understand how close they are and how much their own small inputs make Pentaholics such a special fan base. You're our family, as well 💖
First thing most notice is no Kevin..he had been center stage with his cello and gone to take it backstage..he comes back and stands to the left of Scott where can't really be seen during this particular piece!
Yes Avi broke the sound system and Mitch broke the sound barrier

Actually, they do still use it - I just saw them in September and it was really good - Matt killed it!
